Celebrating Mother’s Day
The Fundraising Committee decided to
bring some joy to a number of abandoned
elderly women on the occasion of
Mother’s Day. After a thorough search,
a shelter for forsaken elderly women and
Down Syndrome children was chosen. The
proceeds from the fundraising event of
the movie screening “Burnt” were used to
purchase 3 wheelchairs, shower benches,
fuel for hot water needed by the shelter,
as well as gifts of underwear, sleepwear
and socks for the residents.
Ten YWCA Board members visited the
shelter, carrying homemade cakes and
cookies, and enjoyed sharing with the
residents a hot meal, ordered from a
nearby restaurant. No words can describe
the feeling of being able to put a smile on
the face of an elderly woman or a mentally
handicapped youth.
Unfortunately, we are unable to reveal
the name or location of the shelter in line
with the expressed wish of its caretakers
to remain anonymous.

Youth Training & Exchange Program
TestimonyMy journey in the “Be Brave: Empower Yourself” training course was a fruitful one; I am glad that I had the opportunity to meet empowered women from all around the world, learn more about the situation of women in all the countries that participated and acquire the point of view of the participants toward their situation from the rich discussions that we had.
I learned new information from the intercultural communication that I wouldn’t have learned outside this training course. Therefore, I would like to thank YWCA- Beirut for giving me this great opportunity, I am very excited to share my experience with the youth of YWCA-Beirut and I would like to share the new skill that I learned about the digital story telling with young women in the YWCA knowing that it is a multipurpose tool that can be applied in many domains.
