NIST Year 5 Letter of Introduction.2

Appointments with class teachers: If throughout the year you have any issues you would like

to discuss, please contact the teacher directly by e-mail to make an appointment (please see

contact email addresses below). We ask that you include a brief explanation about the issue

you would like to discuss. We will then be in contact with you as soon as possible to make

    arrangements to meet.

Communication: When communicating with the teacher via email please allow 24 to 48 hours

for the teacher to reply. In most instances teachers are able to reply at the end of the working

day, however teaching your child and preparing meaningful learning engagements is always

our first priority. Please also keep in mind that it is not possible for teachers to check and reply

to emails during the busy teaching day. Please send all urgent requests through the NIST

elementary school [email protected] . We would also ask that if you are aware that

your child will be absent from school in advance, that you let your childs classroom teacher

know so they are able to plan accordingly.

Daily Preparation and Physical Education: Throughout the school week, your child will be

involved in lessons taught by specialist teachers, these being Physical Education (P.E.), Art,World Languages and Music. The timetabling throughout NIST operates on a ten day cycle. We

ask that you assist and support your child to be prepared for all lessons on a given a day,

particularly over the first few weeks of the academic year. Details about your childs timetable

are available online on our information management system(Veracross). On Physical Education

days your child will need to bring their PE kit or swim wear to school and change before and

after the lesson. The exceptions to this are when the lesson is in the first lesson of the day,

when they can wear their kit to school and change into their uniform afterwards, or wear their

PE kit home when the lesson is at the end of the day.

Birthday parties: We are happy to celebrate your childs birthday in class. Please arrange a

time a few days in advance with your childs teacher so that the celebration can be held 10minutes prior to morning break, lunch or the end of school. This will then minimise disruptions

to the classroom programme. We ask that cupcakes, slices, pizza or doughnuts are brought

only. Please do not supply candy, drinks or goodie bags on these occasions. Thank you for your

    cooperation.

Expectations: The Year 5 teaching team has developed a set of shared expectations for the

Year 5 students in order to assist in running Year 5 as smoothly as possible. We would like to

share these with you and ask that you review them together with your child at home.

Please bring your re-usable water bottle to school each day and keep it in the

    classroom during the day

Please remove shoes before entering the classroom and place them neatly under yourschool bag

Please keep your personal items in your personal spaces (school bag or class cubby)

Please use your school e-mail account for school business only

You may only be in the Year 5 classroom area and hallways during classroom sessions

(before school, break and lunch you must be outside in the supervised areas)

Please bring your hat to school each day and wear it during break and lunch times

Toys and electronic devices remain at home. Phones are brought to school at your own

risk as we cannot be responsible for them. If phones are at school they should remain

switched off and in your school bag during the school day.
