Phonics and Spellings The children are still split into different

phonics groups to best suit their current

phonics understanding and their spellings

will be based on what they have been

learning in this session.

Spelling tests will continue to take place

on Friday. Please ensure that children

have their phonics books in school  on

Fridays so that they can record theirscores and stick their new spellings in.

Literacy:

In Literacy we will be looking at different stories by

the author Anthony Browne, reading and discussing

his stories before writing our own narratives. We

will use his detailed drawings of settings to inspire

the children to create their own settings. They will

develop their use of adjectives, similes, variety of

words and their use of extended sentences. We will

then move on to reading and writing reports.

Numeracy:

In numeracy we will develop the use of recalling and

using facts we know to solve verbal questions. In

addition to this, we will be focusing on developing

our calculation skills in addition and subtraction

through the use of partitioning and number lines.

The children will be encouraged to use mental

strategies for simple sums as well as different

strategies to perform more tricky calculations. They will also be given more open-ended tasks in

which to apply what they have learnt and develop

their problem-solving skills. The children will be

encouraged to create number sentences in response

to written problems.

We will continue to have times table tests each

week on a Monday, where the children are

encouraged to beat their score from the previous

week. In Year 2 these will start by focusing on

remembering the number patterns when counting in

twos, fives and tens.Topic – The Olympics

We will look at the values which the Olympics

represent and also at the continents and countries

which will take part. We will encourage the children

to see how the Olympics bring the world together.

The children will be encouraged to find similarities

and differences between Olympic countries and the

country they live in. In the final week of term we

hope to design costumes based on the flag of their

choice and have a mini Olympics (weatherpermitting) against 2O. If you are able to offer

refreshments from another country or have the

time to come and cook a national dish with the class,

lease see me as soon as ossible.

PSHCE – New Beginnings Children will be looking at setting goals and

aiming for them. We will think about the

training that athletes do and understand

that goals have to be set and worked at

before they can be achieved. We will alsolearn how to persevere and overcome

difficulties.

R.E. – Jesus as a teacher

In R.E we will be looking at how Jesus used

every day items to help His listeners

understand more about God. We will also

look at His use of parables.

P.E.

Outdoor - Children will learn a variety of track

and field events which will prepare them for amini Olympics against 2O. We will learn how to

take part and enjoy the event whether we win

or lose.

Outdoor PE will be on Thursday afternoons.

Kit required: plimsolls, navy shorts/ jogging

bottoms and pale blue t-shirt. Children will

wear their school jumpers to protect them

against the cold.

Indoor P.E on Monday afternoons. In dance

the children will be focusing on responding to

dance and music from around the world. They

will learn, rehearse and perform their dances.

Kit required: trainers or plimsolls, navy shorts

and pale blue t-shirt.
