What is YouTube?

Prompted by the proliferation of small portable video cameras YouTube is an online video sharing service where anyone can post a video about pretty much anything.

As the community grew regular video posters became known as “vloggers” and they were able to start monetizing their hobby.

How does YouTube protect my privacy?

(Privacy, 2008)

YouTube has a zero tolerance policy for any invasion of privacy or harassment of its users with the offending parties being permanently banned.

YouTube requires it’s users to agree not to collect your personal information for any commercial purpose.

The onus is on you the user to control the information available for others to view. By enabling ‘Active Sharing’ on your profile you allow yourself to be visible to the wider internet.

YouTube has also deemed itself not liable for any breach of your privacy that occurs through your use of their website, whether their security is at fault or not.
