• YouTube is a video sharing website headquartered in San Bruno, California, United States.• The service was created by three PayPal employees in

February 2005.• The site allows users to upload, view, rate, share, and

comment on videos, and it makes use of WebM, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, and Adobe Flash Video technology to display a wide variety of user-generated and corporate media video.

HISTORY:• YouTube was founded by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and

Jawed Karim, who were all early employees of PayPal, in February 2005.• In November 2006, YouTube was bought by Google Inc.for

$1.65 billions, and is now operated as a subsidiary of Google.• The domain name www.youtube.com was activated on

February 15, 2005, and the website was developed over the subsequent months.• The first YouTube video was entitled Me at the Zoo, and

shows founder Jawed Karim at San Diego Zoo.• The video was uploaded on April 23, 2005, can still be

viewed on the site.

PURPOSE• The purpose of YouTube is to watch and share videos with

everyone all over the globe on the internet.

• YouTube contains good and bad content. There are millions of inappropriate videos, but also millions of appropriate videos.• YouTube has been highly criticized for its inappropriate

content. • If a video is too bad though, it can be flagged and will be

taken off the website.• Tons of videos are denied by YouTube to be put on their site.

The content comes from YouTube users who upload videos whenever they want.

• People use YouTube for several reasons.• People use it to blog, people use it to comment on things

going on in the world, people use it to make fun of people in the world, and people use YouTube to just post random videos that they and others would find amusing.
