Over the past forty years RGU has built up strong associations with oil and gas industry in the North Sea and around the world. We now have an international reputation for delivering high quality education and research.

A RICH HISTORY

With a heritage going back to 1729, Robert Gordon University is known for engaging with businesses, creating vocational training and education, delivering industry relevant research and designing bespoke business solutions which meet both regional and national needs.

The RGU Oil and Gas Institute was set up to provide a front door for companies looking to take advantage of our extensive knowledge and expertise in oil and gas. Benefiting from a £5 million investment from the Wood Foundation, the University will ensure that the Institute becomes a global centre of excellence in oil and gas.

In the past decade we have invested more than £120 million to create state-of-the-art facilities in what we consider to be one of Europe’s finest campuses.

RGU’s School of Engineering boasts modern, purpose-built laboratories and facilities equipped with the very latest engineering technology. This includes our Wave Tank and a Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle (ROV) testing area.

dART® AT RGU

Dynamic Advanced Responsive Training (DART®) represents a joint-venture between KCA Deutag Limited, an international drilling company, and RGU. Our drilling simulator provides realistic real-time training within a virtual drilling environment.

An accredited IWCF centre, DART® at RGU draws upon KCAD’s drilling expertise, engineering skills from within the School of Engineering and psychologists from the Faculty of Health and Social Care to deliver ground-breaking consultancy, training and research in business-critical human factors analysis and adjustment.

RemOTe HeAlTHCARe

Ensuring the skills set and competencies of healthcare practitioners working in remote environments are at an appropriate standard is a continual challenge. The dynamic nature of the workplace as well as the age and health status of the workforce is placing greater demands on employers. Businesses therefore need to be assured that healthcare practitioners providing services to their employees remain safe, effective and current in their practice.

Our Centre for Smart Data Technologies is developing leading-edge analytical technologies to help the oil and gas industry extract value from the vast amounts of data now collected from rigs, pipelines and other installations on a daily basis. Intelligent analytical tools can provide decision support within demanding operational environments and can be used to mine data to seek new operating efficiencies.

Our 3D body scanning project charted the size and shape of North Sea offshore workers over the last three decades and the findings will help inform the design of offshore safety equipment, survival clothing and space and accommodation requirements offshore.
