It has been a very busy month for me both in the House of Commons and in Milton Keynes. The range of issues I get involved in is incredibly wide. Here are just a few of them.Earlier this month I joined a young constituent in the House of Commons, Archie Campling, at the launch Pancreatic Cancer UK’s new Patient Charter. The charter is a handy booklet, aimed at giving patients and families the confidence to ask the right questions and get what they need at a difficult and confusing time. It will be an excellent tool for patients in Milton Keynes and throughout the UK.Back in MK I have been working on several issues, one major concern that is regularly being raised with me is the planned Health Centre on the Western Flank. Last month I was disappointed to hear the Council confirming it would be open in 2019. In my opinion this is far too late. The GP surgeries on the Western Flank are already under substantial pressures, with families moving in now I am concerned what will happen if there are no measures put in place to ease the situation. I have written to NHS England’s Chief Executive asking for assurances.

I also had some wonderful visits over the last few weeks. One was to meet GrandPart, a lovely group of Grandparents

who have, due to complex circumstances, become estranged with their Grandchildren. We discussed

what can be done to improve advice and access. Based in Shenley Church End Parish Council, the group are always welcoming new members. If you have been affected please contact my office and I will happily put you in touch.

I also had the pleasure of joining students, the Mayor and MK Dons’ Pete Winkelman at the

opening of the new state of the art pitches at Sir Herbert Leon Academy in Bletchley. The pitches will be a

great facility for the school and the local community.

Higher parking charges could be on their way for MK drivers as the Labour-led Council look set to offer free parking to Electric Vehicles across the centre leaving a hole in the Council’s income.

To make that measure work extra income would have to be raised from elsewhere, meaning employees and shoppers could once again see a rise in parking charges.

The decision to allow Electric Vehicles free parking across all 20,000 CMK spaces was part of a successful bid for MK to become a Go Ultra Low City.

Commenting on the proposal, Cllr Edith Bald, Conservative Group Leader said, “Whilst I am fully supportive of the drive for lower vehicle emissions, the Council has to be careful how

they sell it. I don’t like the idea of free parking and other perks for people who can afford

brand new cars, leaving those who can’t afford this luxury to carry the cost.

I fear that in order to balance the books parking charges will go up and bus subsidies will come down. That’s not good and my Group will not support it.”

A great little run-around This is a great little car for the money ideal for a small family run-around or second car great for a first car and excellent for a business all branded up!!The new Citroën C1 is up against some seriously strong rivals in the competitive city car class, such as the Volkswagen Up and the Hyundai i10.As if those two weren’t enough to worry about, the C1 also has to take on its stablemates, the Toyota Aygo and Peugeot 108. With all three cars sharing the same basic engineering DNA, it’s only the cars’ styling and pricing, and the small differences in their specifications and trim, that will matter to customers.Of the two engines we prefer the 1.0 litre, certainly for city driving. It feels very slow and needs to be

worked hard, but its five gear ratios are well spaced. Bear in mind, however, that with two or more people on board, it will struggle on steep hills. Even solo, and with your foot to the floor, the C1 builds speed very gradually. Once the power does arrive at high revs, the engine note becomes really strained. The 1.2-litre engine is only a little better in this regard because it doesn’t need to be worked quite as hard.There are three trim levels are offered: Touch, Feel and Flair. The entry-level Touch provides remote central locking, electric windows and an MP3-compatible stereo, but upgrading to Feel brings body-colour wing mirrors and door handles, air-conditioning, a height-adjustable driver’s seat and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system.The range-topping Flair features 15-inch alloy wheels, tinted glass, a rev counter, electric mirrors and a rear parking camera.Although the latest Citroen C1 has almost identical dimensions to its predecessor – not surprising as it’s a development of the previous-generation model’s platform – the company has done

a great job of making the design fun, fresh and entirely different from its Toyota and Peugeot sister cars.The split headlight design is an interpretation of the same theme you’ll find on the Citroen C4 Cactus, while vertical LED lights are integrated neatly into the front bumper.At the rear, square 3D-effect tail-lamps and a blacked-out glass

tailgate are also distinctive, while the side profile is shared with the Aygo and 108. It’s a similar story

with the interior design; this is replicated across all three of the city cars, with the

exception of the badges.Colour-coded trim on the centre console and gearlever surround, as well as

flashes of exterior colour on the doors and the option of striped seat upholstery, ensure the C1’s

interior is light and cheery.
