Your weekly news & updates

Sunday, January 21, 2018 was an awesome day at church. Many new members from Africa(several countries including Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, and Democratic Republic of the Congo)joined our church! Mark (Coordinator of Music Ministries) and Marcia Baumann joined, too!

Praise the Lord!I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,In the company of the upright, in the congregation.Great are the works of the Lord,Studied by all who delight in them.Psalm 111.1-2

It was quite easy to “give thanks to the Lord...in the congregation” this last Sunday as we welcomed so manynew members into St. Paul’s.

As I think about it, I don’t have to look far to recognize the greatness of God’s works: God is doing wonderfulthings in our midst.

So, let us consider the work of the Lord, and let us delight in God’s work in us.

Saturday, January 20th Club 56 enjoyed their Winter Retreat where they experienced Narnia! These fifth andsixth graders entered St Paul’s Narnia through our wardrobe and through the forest just like Peter, Susan,Edmund, and Lucy did in the book/movie. We watched the movie in parts and learned about how the author, C.S. Lewis, incorporated the bible into his story. After each part of the movie, the youth experienced many funactivities related to what we had watched. There was tea time with gingerbread cookies and Turkish Delight, a“snow ball” fight, discussions about loyalty and betrayal, and much more. Thanks to Kim, Jennifer, Kathy, and Tamera for helping set-up and lead this event with Pastor Keith.

St. Paul's Will Host Family PromiseFebruary 11-18, 2018

St. Paul's will provide overnight lodging, meals, and hospitality for theweek of Feb. 11-18 for up to three families (no more than 14 persons)who are homeless. Who are the homeless? People! Children, mothersfathers, elderly people just like you. A mother loses her job, a father isinjured and unable to work, a family's car breaks down. Jobs are

difficult to find, healthcare costs soar, public transportation is under funded, affordable housing is verydifficult to obtain. There are many reasons beyond their control that families may become homeless. Here's how you can get involved: Prepare a meal (or part of a meal); serve a meal; play a game with a child;read a book with a child; tutor a student; talk to a parent; stay overnight; share kindness! If you would like to be involved in this caring ministry contact Kate Buroker (362-5285 or [email protected]). Questions? Stop by the signup table at the Connection Center on Sunday. BradColton (Coordinator) or Kate will be happy to give you information about Family Promise.

Lenten Study begins February 14“God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodieswe sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us bygiving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.” Romans 8:3 (NLT)

As we move away from the seasons of Advent and Christmas, when God sent hisown Son to Earth to live among us, and move toward the seasons of Lent andEaster, when that same Son became a sacrifice for our sins, the Adult SpiritualFormation team encourages each of you to consider how you will deepen yourrelationship with God and enhance your understanding of what Christ’s death onthe cross means for us today.

To assist you during your Lenten journey, we are offering a five session, DVD-based study from Max Lucado entitled He Chose the Nails: What God Did to Win Your Heart. Max says,“Every gift from God reveals his love, but no gift reveals his love more than the gifts of the cross.” This wouldbe a good study for existing small groups and Sunday school classes and also an excellent opportunity to start anew small group, if you’ve been feeling God nudge you toward facilitating. It would be wonderful to haveseveral new small groups meeting throughout the week to share in this study. We do, however, encourage
