Strategy is a word that seems to be everywhere these days. Whether it’s the strategy of the candidates to win votes in the big upcoming election or it’s the latest news on Apple’s new products, it is clear that strategy is important. As I have progressed in my career, strategy has become more and more of a focus, so much so that I spend probably 30% of my time either talking about strategy, developing a strategy, or executing a strategy. So what does this mean for you as a supply chain professional? Do you know what your company strategy is? How do
you fit into this strategy and are you prepared to meet new challenges?
At APICS we are dedicated to helping you become the best you can be. Understanding the questions above and educating yourself on how to best contribute are key to not only your success but also the success of the company you work for or want to work for. Whether it’s a certification you need or a community of like-minded individuals who gather monthly for plant tours/professional development meetings, APICS and APICS Wichita are here for you. For more information check out our new website: www.apics-wichita.com

Our March Presentations
Nurse Staffing for Inpatient Settings Using a Stochastic Modeling Approach
Parisa Eimanzadeh
The national nurse shortage along with rising patient acuity levels have led to an increase in nurse workload, causing nurse workforce to experience high levels of burnout. To address this concern and using systems engineering techniques, we develop a stochastic model to quantify the trade-off between the staffing level of an inpatient unit and different performance metrics such as the probability of excessive delays in providing patient care.
An age-structured bio-economic model of invasive species management: insights and strategies for optimal control
Eyyub Yunus Kibis
Native grasslands in the Great Plains are threatened by the spread of sericea lespedeza (Lespedeza cuneata), an introduced legume from Asia, which can damage forage or hay production resulting in substantial economic loss for land managers. Therefore, policy makers and land managers need to find effective decision strategies for managing sericea lespedeza and reducing the related costs. In this research, we develop a dynamic nonlinear optimization model to find economically efficient strategies and provide insights for controlling the invasion of sericea lespedeza. Using empirical data, the economic loss arising from invasion of sericea lespedeza is minimized over time and optimal management strategies are presented for various cases.
Your Chapter is Platinum! Chapter Management Excellence is an integral component to enhancing the member experi-ence. Successful APICS chapters provide their members with opportunities for stellar education, career development, and networking. The APICS Chapter Benchmarking and Reporting (CBAR) program recognizes chapters that have exceeded minimum standards and exemplify excellence in overall chapter management.
We are proud to announce the APICS Wichita Chapter received the 2015 CBAR Platinum Award designation, an admirable accomplishment for an APICS chapter. As a member of an APICS Platinum Award Winning Chapter, the CBAR designation signifies your chapter’s com-mitment to providing an exceptional membership experience. APICS Wichita Chapter has been recognized with this achievement for the past 24 consecutive years!
