General Instructions

These practice scenarios were created to prepare you for possible situations you may face as a private tutor in our organization. After you have completed the practice scenarios you will be tested on your ability to problem solve situations you will encounter. The following guidelines will help you keep track of your progress during these situations:

• Grab a pencil and paper and mark which problems you got right and which problems you got wrong.

• After each question you have answered incorrectly, you should re-read the question again and make sure you understand why you have got it wrong.

• When you have completed the entire practice exam you need to go back to the answers you got wrong and do them again. This will be beneficial for future reference. Remember, you may have to deal with one of these situations with a real student some day.

Meeting Your New Student Billy

Billy is 10 years old and comes from an average, nuclear family. He lives in the suburbs and goes to the local public school. Unfortunately Billy has not been doing so well in school lately and his mother is getting worried. He has consistently received C’s on his tests. It is required that he raise his grades. Billy’s mother has contacted Club Z Tutoring in hopes that he will learn better from more individualized and interactive one-on-one tutoring sessions.
