Cost of Care£5 can provide a children’s book to help conversations between family members about illness and death, which can often be difficult subjects to talk about.

£5 can help to cover the cost of essential clinical items such as syringes, needles and sterile dressings.

£15 can help to cover the costs of art and craft supplies for a patient to use in art therapy.

£90 can cover the cost of a Staff Nurse for one shift.

£165 can pay towards specialist pre and post bereavement support sessions for a child or young person and will give them the emotional tools needed to cope with their loss.

Here are a few fundraising ideas that you might like to do at your school. Don’t forget we are here to help you and support you in your event....

Wake up for Willen• Hold a healthy breakfast morning and donate the proceeds to Willen Hospice.

• Host a relaxed coffee and danish pastry event in the staff room with donations collected for the Hospice.

‘Wake up for Willen’ can be kept low key or used throughout the whole of your school.

If this is something you would like to participate in please take a look at the separate ‘Wake Up for Willen’ Tool Kit or contact us for more information.

Willen Wacky Races• Why not turn your sports day into a fundraiser for Willen Hospice and have a sponsored race in aid of the Hospice. Whether it is a few laps of the school field or a toddle around the hall, we will provide you with ideas and fundraising materials to help your event ‘run’ smoothly.

Willen Waddle• Organise a sponsored walk around the school and encourage a healthy lifestyle to your students. We can provide you with sponsor sheets and fundraising materials, please ask for more details.

Willen Wash • Everyone loves a sunny day and a bucket of water, so how about combining the two and do a Willen Car Wash event.

Wellies for Willen• Invite the children to wear their wellies to school for a donation to Willen Hospice. Maybe plan a nature trail for the day and explore the outside.

Wacky Hats• Wear a wacky hat to school for a donation to Willen Hospice.

Words for Willen• Have you got a story in your head that would make for a great read? Got a fabulous imagination that gives you a creative flair for story telling? Perhaps your students could put together a crossword or word search? Could you have a sponsored scrabble match or spelling bee, or create a piece of art using words only? Yes… then ‘Words for Willen’ is just what you need. We can work with your school and help design a student program, to encourage young writers to develop language skills and raise money in the process. Whether you choose to publish the stories in a saleable booklet, or have on open evening of storytelling, art displays and sell tickets for the event, we can help and support your school in every way. Willen Wonder Crew

• Do you have a team of students, or budding entrepreneurs who would be interested in organising their own event, running a small committee or putting together a fundraiser?

We can support them with our expertise, come into your school to give assemblies, work with groups on projects and give them the materials they will need to have a successful, fun and fulfilling fundraising experience.

‘Wumble Jumble’ Sale• Host your own Willen Wumble Sale! Money can be raised by selling tables/stalls at your event or from the sale of items sold.

It’s a great community event, and brings out the crowds as everyone loves a bargain. Throw in refreshments and it’s a fun few hours for all involved.

Our dedicated team of fundraisers are here to support you, your staff and pupils.

We can provide you with fundraising materials such as banners, balloons, sponsor forms, posters, collecting pots and buckets. We can also come into school to discuss ideas with you, or give assemblies to your pupils, to make them aware of how our charity needs your community support.

Please get in touch with us so we can support you from the moment you decide to hold a fundraising event.

The death of a family member or friend will affect everyone at some point in their lives. For some this will be during their childhood. Willen Hospice provides children and young people with support from the moment their family member is referred to the Hospice. Our Support Worker, who is a specialist in child bereavement, works with the family to provide the appropriate support needed to help give children and young people the emotional care required to help them deal with loss.

Our Family Services Team works alongside our nurses and doctors to support families during this difficult time. They provide bespoke care depending on the individual needs of a particular family, for as long as they may require our help. This can include working closely with the child’s school.

Willen Hospice is the only Hospice within Milton Keynes and surrounding areas, covering an expanding population of 300,000. The Hospice is a unique, specialist, independent charity providing free services to our patients, families and loved ones.

As a registered charity we gain enormous support from our local community. The NHS only contributes 22% of our total annual running costs of over £4.5 million and this means that Willen Hospice must raise over £3.6 million a year to continue providing our high quality services, without charge, to the local community. The contributions we receive from our supporters are vital and without this generosity it would not be possible to continue our work.

Yes - you will make a difference

Please get in touch to discuss how we can work together with you and your students on such projects.
