Use this checklist to prepare for a road trip, with helpful tips on what to do before leaving and while driving. Food, Personal Space, and Other Items Comments 1. Schedule maintenance, so an oil change, brake inspection, and fluid top-off is completed. 2. Clear out any unnecessary items from the car, and give the vehicle a good cleaning or vacuuming before loading items in. 3. Keep an emergency travel kit on-hand, with things like flashlights, work gloves, ice scrapers (if necessary), umbrellas, flares, and jumper cables. 4. Pack a first-aid kit, and keep bottled water and blankets on-hand. 5. Check to see that the spare tire is ready, if needed. 1. Check tires before heading out, and inflate them to proper pressure. 2. Top off the gas tank before leaving, so you don’t have to stop midway through a long drive. 3. If traveling with kids, ensure that they have entertainment to last the entire ride, including books, games, tablets, or other electronics. 4. Bring a charger to charge any devices. 5. If you own an old-school map, it doesn’t hurt to pack it, particularly if a phone freezes or the GPS isn’t working due to lack of service. 1. Pack trash bags, to consolidate any trash or finished food items. 2. Ensure there’s a spot for the cooler or snacks; ensure easy access. 3. Bring wet wipes, hand sanitizer, and tissues. 4.
