Saint Kitts & Nevis, in terms of both population and land area, is one of the smallest countries in the Caribbean (and indeed in the whole of the Americas). They are mountainous islands of volcanic nature in the West Indies. The west side of the island borders the Caribbean Sea, and the eastern coast faces the Atlantic Ocean.

The strait that separates St. Kitts and Nevis is known as the Narrows and lives up to the name. Every spring, swimmers arrive from across the Caribbean and beyond to take part in a race between the sister islands. The country is a Commonwealth realm, with Queen Elizabeth II as head of state.
