PERFECT MAINTENANCE IN SIX STEPS1. Inventory and planning

We register all the equipment, both own safety equipment as well as customer’s materials,

in our software system and plan the corresponding maintenance dates. We keep stock of

appropriate spare parts and keep track of the availability of test equipment.

2. Location management

We make an overview of all the equipment on-site and give each piece a unique number, tag or

barcode. The materials are either locally maintained or transported to the proper workplace.

After finishing the maintenance works, we make sure that the equipment returns to its correct

location. The quick lead time during the maintenance process allows to keep to your stock to a

minimum.

3. Maintenance and certification

Certified and skilled experts go through all the maintenance steps. We keep a record of the

maintenance performed and the used parts. After carrying out all the proper checks and tests

we generate new certificates for each piece of equipment. We can ensure that your systems and

equipment are in proper working order and all compliance regulations are met. Our field service

solution also offers service cars on-site and last but not least, we can perform on-site annual

inspections and reparations on demand.

4. Repairs

We also take care of any necessary repairs. If the cost of repairs is outside your budget, we

will try to find the best solution in close consultation with you. A spare device is at your service

for vital equipment, to ensure that your works can continue without delay. We also offer

replacements for your equipment.

5. Help desk

Equipment breakdown? Simply call our 24/7 help desk. Our range of service modules guarantees

a suitable solution at any time. We will propose the service level that best suits your needs.

6. Reports

You receive a detailed summary of the maintenance activities carried out, giving you exact

information about the status, history and certificates for all your equipment. We also provide

transparent and unambiguous cost calculations at all times.

Total Safety ensures your equipment stays in proper working order to meet compliance standards and for optimum performance when you need it the most.

17

TECHNOLOGIES

'More for less', that is the essence of our technological safety systems. Your

benefits: more safety, better follow-up and an optimized budget. All this is the

direct result of our creative cooperation with safety managers, enabling us to

provide budget-friendly solutions for old problems.

CCSM (Centralized Confined Space Monitoring)

Centralized Safety Monitoring | The Next Generation of Confined Space Safety

Increase workers’ safety and reduce total costs by utilizing a confined space

monitoring system as a supplement to your existing holewatch personnel for

confined space and enclosed area operations.

A single control center utilizes three types of technology to ensure the safety

of your workers: badge/ID reader technology, cameras and emergency alert

systems, and fixed gas monitoring. With this technology, the control center can,

at any moment, identify all workers within the hazardous area, maintain a visual

and a clear line of communication, and monitor air quality for hazardous gases.

Alongside the technology, a trained controller or ‘operator’ mans the control

center and qualified field technicians, all provided by Total Safety, will oversee

activities within the hazardous areas.

PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHER

9kg ABC Art. n° 000130

–For extinguishing A, B and C-category fires (crust-

forming for Class A, anti-catalytic for Class B & C)

–Effect is achieved by a spray, therefore, in addition to

a negative catalytic effect (suppressing flames), also

fuses together when heated and forms a thin layer of

glaze on the burning material, which eliminates the

flow of oxygen to the fire and extinguishing the fire

–Extinguisher nozzle is interruptible, making

concentrated and adjustable extinguishing possible

–Pulverized coal forms a screen against heat

emissions and also disperses smoke and noxious

gasses

–Extinguisher equipment under electrical power is

possible, but consequential damage of powder on

such equipment needs to be taken into account

2kg CO2

Art. n° 000132

–Universal portable CO2 extinguisher for B and

C-class fires, electrical and electronic installations

–Effect obtained by lowering the level of oxygen and

cooling the fuel

–Specially designed flow pipe converts liquid CO2 into

solid CO2 snow

–Only used for small fires

–Guard against freezing injuries -78°

Art. n° 000131

–Universal portable CO2 extinguisher for B and

C-class fires, electrical and electronic installations

–Effect obtained by lowering the level of oxygen and

cooling the fuel

–Specially designed flow pipe converts liquid CO2 into

solid CO2 snow

–Only used for small fires

–Guard against freezing injuries -78°

50kg ABC Art. n° 000135

MOBILE FIRE EXTINGUISHER

For larger A, B and C class fires

Best used when a fire in its early stages threatens to spread rapidly, such as in: wood,

paper, textiles, petroleum products, paint, solvent storage areas and in places where

flammable products are used or a lot of dust and flammable waste is produced

Effect is caused by the spray which covers the fire area optimally and suppresses the

flames

Gas propellant is held in a separate CO2 container outside the powder reservoir

Gas intake for the air sample is in on the front and is protected against dust and other

impurities. When the integrated mechanical functions have detected an air-tight

connection between the entire gas-conduction system and the open capillary of the chip,

a special pump system sends a constant stream through the capillary. Unit can also be

equipped with an external pump for remote measurement

User friendly: 1. Place the chip 2. Move the sliding switch 3. Read the result on the display

GAS DETECTION

BUMP TEST STATIONS

TEST MODE

Developed for carrying out bump tests (function tests) with gas to check portable

measurement warning instruments

This test is important for checking whether the gas to be measured flows through the dust

and water filter over the sensor, that the sensor calibration is correct, the alarms work and

are configured correctly, standards and recommendations of the local authorities

The bump-test station has the necessary gas regulator and an instrument-specific

adapter for connecting to the different gas-measurement devices

Testing an instrument with a known gas concentration is the only way to ensure a reliable

and correct measurement and warning against hazardous materials. During the tests,

the correct sensor response times and the alarm functions of the gas-measurement

instrument are tested

ATEX

ATEX stands for the French appellation “ATmosphères EXplosibles” (explosive

atmospheres) and is used as a synonym for two European directives in the area

of explosion hazard under atmospheric conditions.

As of 1 July 2003, organizations in the EU where the potential of explosion exists

must meet the new ATEX 137 Directive (Directive 1999/92/EC). Another directive

is the ATEX 95 Directive (Directive 94/9/EC). This directive is particularly for

equipment that is used in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Protection from explosion

Explosive atmospheres can be caused by flammable gases, vapours, mist

or dust. If enough of this is present, it can, when mixed with the ambient air

(oxygen) and a source of ignition, lead to an explosion. Explosions can cause

fatal injury, serious injuries and/or significant material damage. Explosions can

be prevented by eliminating one of these three factors.

Principles for protection from explosion:

Primary – Prevent the potential for an explosive atmosphere by removing or

keeping away all flammable substances and/or oxygen.

Secondary – Eliminate sources of ignition (special encasement, make it

intrinsically safe).

Tertiary – In extreme cases, allow controlled explosions and limit the

consequences with explosion resistant constructions (e.g. bursting disk, flame

retardants).

In many companies, the presence of flammable substances cannot be avoided,

and because people often work in operating environments it is usually not

practical to remove oxygen. The most practical way to prevent explosions is to

eliminate the source of ignition.

ATEX Directive 94/9/EC

The ATEX Equipment Directive 94/9/EC (Also known as ‘ATEX 95’) describes

requirements for equipment (electrical and non-electrical) and protective

systems in places (“zones”) where the risk of a dust or gas explosion can arise.

This directive is included in the Decree on Explosion Hazardous Materials and

describes the general safety objectives. The specific requirements are included

in European and international norms (i.e. EN-IEC-60079).

Zone Description

0 An explosive mixture of gases is present continuously or for long

periods (more than 1,000 hours/y)

1 Potential presence of an explosive mixture of gases is likely to occur in

normal operation (between 10 and 1,000 hours/y)

2 Potential presence of an explosive mixture of gases is not likely and for

a short period only (less than 10 hours/y)

20 A cloud of combustible dust is present continuously or for long periods

(more than 1,000 hours/y)

21 Potential presence of a cloud of combustible dust is likely to occur in

normal operation (between 10 and 1,000 hours/y)

22 Potential presence of a cloud of combustible dust is not likely and for a

short period only (less than 10 hours/y)

ATEX Directive 1999/92/EC

The ATEX Workplace Directive 1999/92/EC (also known as ‘ATEX 137’) describes

for employers the minimum safety requirements for creating a healthy and

safe working environment for workers who can be in danger due to explosive

atmospheres. For the Netherlands, these Directives are included in the ARBO

(Working Conditions Act) legislation and regulations.

Potentially explosive areas must be clearly marked for workers with a warning

triangle which has the black text “EX” on a yellow background.

One of the requirements of ATEX 137 for employers/owners is creating

and updating Explosion Protection Documents (EPD). The most important

components herein are:

- Classifying danger zones on the basis of frequency and duration.

- Identification and assessment of explosion risks.

- Drafting and planning measures to implement a safe working environment.

Zone classification

Part of ATEX 137 is a risk inventory with the identification of potentially explosive

zones. Within these zones, ATEX 95-approved equipment must then be used.

Potentially explosive atmospheres can be classified into the following danger

zones:

PORTABLE COMMUNICATION

TRUNKING

TRUNKING UNIT

Conventional transceivers have a limited number of frequencies available to be able to

serve larger numbers of user groups adequately. This often leads to different groups using

the same frequency

The mobile trunking unit groups the users and has pre-programmed priority levels. This

makes it possible to give specific groups priority over all other communications, removing

the threat of disruptions to communications

The antenna-vehicle holding the trunking unit can be placed anywhere

The high antenna mast doubles the reach of your transceivers

Especially useful during shutdowns, renovation and new-build projects
