A GOOD TRY BUT …..

Arnhemland is, contrary to the name not a land. This is a province in Northern Australia. Although named after Arnhem, it has no similarity to the Gelderse city.

NOT QUITE,

New Amsterdam was named by the Dutch, but was given up to the English and renamed New York. A part of America, a big city, but it is not a land.

ALRIGHT!

Good, discovered in 1642 by Abel Tasman, though the land was not claimed by a European power and settled until it was visited in1769 by Captain James Cook of England. That is why the New Zealanders speak English and not dutch.

A lot of New Zealands history, culture, language and customs come from the British due to this fact.

WHICH CITY IS THE CAPITAL OF NEW ZEALAND?A. Sydney

B. Wellington

C. Auckland

Page 12: YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF NZ (CLICK THE ARROW TO CONTINUE MATE)

OH OH, THIS IS NOT GOOD

A. Sydney, is not correct. Sydney is not a city in New Zealand but in Australia. In fact Sydney is not even a capital at all. Just as the Dutch have a rivalry with the Belgians or Germans, so do the New Zealanders have such with the Australians.New Zealanders do not like being called Australians. Of course Australians love being called New Zealanders as they know that the country is beautiful and they are very envious that they do not live there.

ALMOST, BUT ….C. Auckland, is not correct.

You are closer as Auckland is New Zealands biggest city but is not the capital. This city is located on two oceans, the pacific ocean on the eastern side and the Tasman sea on the western side, named after Abel Tasman. The other name for Auckland is the city of sails as so many people own a boat.

Page 17: YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF NZ (CLICK THE ARROW TO CONTINUE MATE)

CLOSE BUT NO CIGARInuit are indeed native people but it is not the name for the natives of New Zealand. Instead it relates to those in the very northern parts of the world, usually referred to those in Canada.

Do you know what the house is called?

Page 18: YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF NZ (CLICK THE ARROW TO CONTINUE MATE)

YEAH MAN !! Good, the natives are indeed the Maori. Although they were there before the Europeans, they also discovered New Zealand from the Pacific Islands almost 1000 years ago. The Maori culture is important for the image and branding of New Zealand abroad.
