From the outset, my objective with PalmerSport was to provide the best corporate hospitality driving event in the world and, more than a quarter of a century later, the result is a driving event that truly stands out from the crowd.

From the sensory overload experienced within the cockpit of a Grand Prix-style single-seater, to the seat-of-your-pants rush of a race-prepared tin-top, at PalmerSport we allow anybody to feel the spine-tingling sensations that are otherwise inaccessible to all but those within the professional motorsport community.

During my racing career, I always relished the challenge of fine-tuning a car to best suit the requirements of a driver and circuit on a given day, and I’ve carried the same meticulous approach over to PalmerSport. It’s still an obsession of mine to tweak and refine the product to ensure it remains fast, fun, and relevant to all first-time and repeat visitors and I feel strongly that this attitude has resulted in us producing our strongest ever line-up this year.

Indeed, for 2017 the PalmerSport programme has undergone further changes, including the return of an old favourite in a new guise – the latest Renault Clio Cup race car, which delivers touring car thrills on our fabulous North Circuit.

In one superb day, you will take part in eight driving activities, in cars that you could previously have only dreamed of, and at speeds you would never have thought possible. Our headline vehicle and latest addition for 2017 is the Renault Clio Cup, a fully manufacturer-developed racing thoroughbred, as raced throughout the year at British Touring Car events.

This is no ordinary hatchback but rather a bespoke competition machine, designed from the ground-up. Like an oversized go kart it’s super-stiff, nimble, and darty - perfect for flinging from corner to corner.

Our Formula 3000 single-seater is the closest you’ll get to the experience of an F1 car.

Powered by a Cosworth-developed 3000cc V6 which thumps out 250 bhp at 6500 rpm, the car’s engine growls as its acceleration pushes you deep into your seat. As you work the six-speed paddle gearshift on the steering wheel, the car is still accelerating hard as it blasts past 100 mph.

The sensational BMW M4 is the quickest mid-sized GT car yet in BMW’s infamous M-range and the PalmerSport M4 GTPs are faster still, thanks to a range of competition-specification enhancements.

Our unique M4 GTPs have been stripped of their interior luxuries and equipped with uprated brakes and lowered, stiffened suspension to provide phenomenal on-track performance. Plus, this brute boasts a mighty 425 bhp!

The M4’s 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six engine, tuned by BMW’s motorsport division, can howl its way to 7600 rpm, but it is in the mid-ranges that it really packs a powerful punch, with torque leaping from 295 lb ft in the old M3 to a whopping 406 lb ft. The Ariel Atom moves from the North to the East Circuit for 2017, adding a new challenge to the programme in one of PalmerSport’s most popular cars. Stripped-down to the bare essentials, with a visible spaceframe chassis and minimal bodywork, the Ariel Atom is a machine of no frills but big thrills, and the perfect weapon in which to tackle Bedford Autodrome’s most sinuous ribbon of tarmac. The previously incumbent Caterham Sevens remain on the programme in the Pursuit activity.

Thanks to its low weight and high power, the Atom accelerates with noisy urgency and tackles corners with amazing agility. The Atom’s Honda i-VTEC engine, located right behind the driver’s back, rushes all the way to 8000 rpm and belts out 245 bhp. Weighing in at merely 610 kg, the Atom launches, corners, and stops with a forcefulness that would outshine many supercars. The close-ratio six-speed paddleshift gearbox, unique to PalmerSport, makes shifts possible in a barely perceptible 0.05-of-a-second, whilst gunning from 0-60 mph is a three-second blur.

With an expert instructor pushing you to the limit, the Atom is a raw, intoxicating experience that will leave you grinning from ear-to-ear.

Our stunning Palmer JP-LM provides our guests with all the sensations of a thoroughbred Le Mans racer. This open-top two-seat racing car is as focussed as any machine can be and provides the most sublime driving experience – with an instructor sitting right alongside to help you extract all of its mind-blowing acceleration, braking ability, and cornering grip.

We’ve squeezed every last bit of power from the JP-LM’s Cosworth 3-litre quad-cam V6 engine for relentless acceleration and staggering straight-line speed.

The breathtaking pace of this car is further boosted by its superior aerodynamics compared to a single-seater. Its swoopy bodywork slices cleanly through the air and generates impressive downforce, pushing those big tyres into the asphalt as you power through the bends. G-forces pin you to your seat!

If you expect our Defenders to give you time to relax between racing cars, think again. You’ll have to apply as much skill, concentration and commitment in the mud as you do on the track. The challenge here lies in successfully negotiating your way down rock-strewn paths, through deep rivers, and up slopes so extreme you’ll scarcely believe even a 4x4 could scale them.

You’ll climb so steeply that all you can see through the windscreen is sky, before plunging over what appears to be the edge of the world. You’ll negotiate tracks covered in impossible-looking boulders, ford rivers, and drive out on to our infamous see-saw, using nothing other than the weight of the car at the pivot point to tilt the platform so you can drive down the other side.

Put your faith in our rugged Defenders and listen to your instructor, and you’ll emerge from these challenges lost in admiration for a great British institution that for over 60 years has remained unequalled.

You’ll be timed or scored on every activity at PalmerSport, but this is one with a difference: a head-to-head contest against one of your team-mates on two identical mirror-image courses with straights, hairpins and a mini-roundabout.

It all looks deceptively simple at first, but then the lights count down and it’s GO as you blast from the start in one of our Caterhams, balancing grip against power as you slip and slide against the clock!

Of course you’ll want to go as fast as possible, but in the Caterham the dividing line between hero and zero can be a millimetre too much throttle applied a millisecond too early, so you’ll need maximum concentration for perfect powerslides. Plenty of finesse is required too, not least for that innocent looking roundabout – if you can master tyre-smoking doughnuts, you’ll beat your opponent every time in this best-of-three competition.

Live timing screens were introduced at PalmerSport in 2014 and immediately proved a popular part of the experience. Located both inside and outside our trackside suites, the live screens work in the same way as those in Formula One qualifying, showing each driver’s best time the instant they complete the lap.

When guests are not out on track, their eyes will be glued to the timing screens, enjoying each others’ conversation while simultaneously keeping an eye on the progress of their team-mates and seeing how their own lap times compare.

For those of a competitive nature, the screens make for compulsive viewing.

Jonathan Palmer spent more than 12 months painstakingly designing the world’s most extensive, thrilling and safe motorsport complex: Bedford Autodrome, with four tracks totalling more than five miles of tarmac comprising endless straights, flat out curves, challenging bends and slide- inducing hairpins. The whole philosophy behind PalmerSport is that we want you to go as fast as you possibly can. This is why Bedford Autodrome was created specifically with flat out driving – not motor racing – in mind. There are no Armco barriers, concrete walls or grandstands hemming-in the circuits, just endless run-off and acres of grass. With the comfort of knowing there’s nothing to hit but the rev limiter, and an instructor sitting right alongside, you will have the confidence to push our cars and yourself harder than you ever thought possible. By running four circuits simultaneously, we keep your waiting time to a minimum and maximise your time behind the wheel. But you’ll still have opportunities to catch your breath and relax in one of our stylish and comfortable trackside hospitality suites, swapping stories and watching the live timing screens, before you’re whisked away for your next adventure at PalmerSport.

And we don’t just change consumables like tyres and brake pads - our cars follow a rigorous schedule of maintenance where parts are lifed and replaced regardless of condition, just as they are in the safety-dominated aircraft industry.

By applying such standards we can ensure that our cars are not only supremely reliable and safe, but as identical as they can be. This is evident the moment you arrive at PalmerSport: would you prefer to start your day with a light breakfast of artisan pastries, seasonal fruits, Greek yogurt and honey, or fuel-up with a deliciously cooked Full English?

To the waitress-served lunch, how about herbed lamb cutlets on root vegetable mash with a redcurrant and rosemary jus, or sun-dried tomato and mozzarella-stuffed chicken breast, or perhaps the mouth-watering vegetarian option instead? Because of the stringent standards and qualifications required to be a PalmerSport instructor, just one in ten prove to be good enough to work with us.

How good? Chances are you’ll be sat alongside an experienced racer, possibly a hotshot who’s on the verge of the big time. Triple F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton is just one of the accomplished drivers who instructed at Bedford Autodrome.

Our instructors are also selected for their ability to establish a rapport with our guests and quickly understand their levels of experience and confidence. This understanding, allied with plenty of encouragement, allows our guests to feel like a hero behind the wheel and outperform their own expectations.

Every guest at PalmerSport is also part of a team and every team has its own leader, who will be with you from start to finish, ensuring your entire event runs like clockwork. Your team leader will explain every activity, when you will be driving, what you need to wear, and make sure you never miss a drive. You can just relax.

Jolyon Palmer is, alongside Lewis Hamilton, one of only two British drivers currently on the Formula One grid, and he continues with the Renault Sport F1 Team in 2017 after an impressive rookie campaign.

Everybody would love to know how their driving skills stack up against those of an F1 driver, and here at PalmerSport we can give you the answer!

Before Jolyon heads to Melbourne for the first round of the 2017 Formula One World Championship, he will set benchmark times in all of PalmerSport’s performance cars, pushing to the limit in every activity. This means that every time you head out on to the circuit at Bedford Autodrome, you have a truly lofty target to aim at.

Furthermore, every guest will receive a printout of the technical data logged in the Formula 3000 single seater whilst they were driving it. This shows speed, throttle response and gear selected at all points throughout the fastest lap in your session, with directly comparable data from Jolyon’s drive - an opportunity exclusively available at PalmerSport.

Arrival Time You should aim to arrive by 08.00 in order to allow time for registration and breakfast before the safety briefing. Even if you have been to a PalmerSport event before, you will need to watch the essential safety briefing video as this is an insurance requirement. Please note: If you’ve not registered before the briefing starts, you will need to watch a replay of this video before you can take to the circuit, which may result in a loss of driving time.

Journey Time Please allow plenty of time for your journey. We understand that traffic can disrupt the best-laid plans though, so don’t worry if you are delayed as we will ensure that you join your group as soon as possible. This is likely, however, to result in the loss of some driving time. If you expect to arrive after 08.30, it would be helpful if you could advise the circuit on 01234 332400.

Driving Licence You will be required to produce a current driving licence at registration. An overseas driving licence is acceptable providing it is current and valid.

Permissions Please advise your host or Event Co-ordinator if you or any of your guests:

– are under 21 years of age – hold or have held a motor competition racing licence – have less than 12 months driving experience

as prior written permission to drive must be obtained from PalmerSport for the person to attend. Certain additional conditions and a damage excess may apply.

Dietary Requirements If you have any special dietary requirements, please inform your host or Event Co-ordinator in advance. Please note that unfortunately we are unable to provide kosher or halal dishes.

Fitness In general it is up to an individual to decide if he/she is fit to take part in the event. However, if you have any concerns about a medical condition that may affect your driving, or if you are pregnant, please feel free to contact your host or Event Co-ordinator to discuss it further.

Height and Weight Please advise your host or Event Co-ordinator if you are outside our weight and height guidelines of 18 stone (115 KG) and 5’ - 6’ 4” (153 cm - 193 cm).

What to Wear We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing, e.g. jeans and sweatshirt, windproof jacket and lightweight shoes suitable for performance driving. Shorts and high heels are not permitted and heavy or wide soled shoes are not recommended.

Waterproof clothing will be provided, if required, for use in the cars with open cockpits. Helmets are provided for all activities except off road.

You are most welcome to bring any driving overalls/driving gloves/wet weather gear of your own, and if rain is forecast, a change of clothing may be useful. Sunglasses may be helpful if it’s sunny.

Weather Despite the reputation of the British weather, in reality, very few days are affected by poor conditions. In any case, our event is designed to be totally weather proof with superb permanent hospitality buildings at each activity to keep you warm and dry.

Camera Do bring your camera if you would like to. Please note however, that due to safety requirements you will be unable to use your own camera or video camera for any in car pictures or footage.

The nearest station to Bedford Autodrome is Bedford (20 minutes). Trains from London leave from either St Pancras or any Thameslink station approximately every 20 minutes. There is a taxi rank immediately outside Bedford Station.

Arriving by Plane or Helicopter at Bedford

Bedford Autodrome has its own aerodrome next to the circuits. Aircraft can land on our own licensed runway for perfect convenience when visiting PalmerSport. Our 1,000m runway can accommodate all piston aircraft and most turbo props for public transport operations, and some light jets privately.
