Many garden herbicides are poisonous to native wildlife, and material such as snail bait can be toxic. Alternative garden practices such as permaculture and planting the garden with complimentary plants can assist with pest control.

Make a dierence...

When pruning is necessary, please check the tree for animal nests before cutting. Most nestling birds only need their nest for a few weeks after they hatch – so put o the pruning in spring if possible.

Any trees with hollows are like gold to wildlife, and if you can avoid removing them, your garden will be rich with bird life, possums, bats, and other wildlife. Bats will also eat your mosquitoes – a wonderful benet!

Frogs will appreciate any standing water, and will also take care of the mosquitoes and sing you to sleep with their calls.

In the summer heat a few dishes of water placed around your garden for wildlife can save many lives.

Place habitat/possum boxes high in trees in your garden.

If you have cats and dogs, please be responsible with their care as well. Cats will be happy in a purpose built cat run and enjoy the outdoors without killing wildlife. Dogs will enjoy Frankston's many o-leash parks, and need to be on leash when walked everywhere else includ-ing our bushland reserves. Responsible pet ownership and responsi-ble wildlife management can go together to create a rich and bio-di-verse Frankston!
