Inspirational. Confidence-building. Transformational. These are the words students use to describe their experiences at Mason while pursuing their MBA.

The Mason MBA program staff and faculty have a singular focus—our students. From helping prospective students through the admissions process to planning celebratory graduation events, our staff and faculty work together to provide meaningful student experiences. Our distinguished faculty offer relevant courses providing not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills that can be applied immediately in the workplace. Our well-connected career services team offers programming to expose students to a

variety of career opportunities including networking events, professional panels, access to our vast alumni network, and one-on-one guidance to impress prospective employers.

A hallmark of our program is the global residency course. This course exposes students to elements of international business including political, cultural, and economic forces through an immersive global experience. Students often describe this course as “life-changing” and the most memorable aspect of their MBA program.

Finally, the Mason MBA student community is strong. Because of the cohort structure our students form close-knit groups through shared classroom experiences (and the occasional happy hour!). They create lasting bonds through a variety of extracurricular events such as the student-led New York residency, entrepreneurship competitions, talks by business leaders, and more. Some have even visited Warren Buffett!

We invite you to learn more about what the Mason MBA can do for you and how you can join our community of leaders!

curriculum

Experiential learning is a staple of the Mason MBA. You have the opportunity to seamlessly connect your studies with the contemporary business environment.

Our MBA faculty members incorporate daily opportunities to connect business theory with reality and advocate real-world learning. High-impact activities outside the traditional classroom setting allow you to integrate theory with practice—to advance your leadership and management abilities.

Inside the classroom, role-playing, simulations, projects, and guest speakers are used to illuminate learning from textbooks, lectures, and discussions. Some professors also use the Harvard case study method in their instruction—which means you study the same cases Harvard business school students encounter in their program, derived from actual business situations.

You use your creativity and problem-solving skills to address the kinds of challenges you experience on the job, no matter which industry or where in the world your career takes you.

Learning Goals•teaming & leading: Our graduates will demonstrate the team leadership and interpersonal skills needed to form, lead, and work effectively on diverse organizational teams.

•Analytical decision Making: Our students will demonstrate the ability to analyze uncertain complex management situations using appropriate tools, techniques and information systems for decision-making.

•Knowledge of functional business disciplines: Our graduates will demonstrate knowledge of all core functional areas of business and an ability to integrate them into a meaningful firm-level perspective.

•communication skills: Our graduates will demonstrate written, oral and presentations skills necessary to explain problems and solutions effectively and persuasively.

•law, ethics, and social responsibility: Our graduates will demonstrate knowledge of the legal and ethical environment of management and business social responsibility.

“My time in Mason’s MBA program was an intensely demanding and rewarding period. I was surrounded by outstanding faculty and an amazing group of students who were constantly debating ideas, business concepts, and strategies.”

An integral part of the Mason MBA is our required Global Residency Program. Designed to assist you in leading organizations in the competitive global arena, each component of the program explores the role of management in the complex global economy and examines the risks and opportunities inherent in global commerce. This is underscored by the global residency (MBA 795, Global Business Perspectives), a required three-credit course that includes a weeklong international study tour. Students meet business and government leaders, participate in seminars, meet professors and MBA students from other universities, and visit local and/or multi-national companies.

“It was one of the most impactful experiences of the Mason MBA program and one of the most meaningful weeks of my life. The trip offered the unique ability to utilize traditional academics within an applied service-based framework. We were able to combine elements of our professional experiences with the MBA curriculum and directly help Filipino entrepreneurs to improve their businesses by teaching the entrepreneurs how to cut their operational costs, manage cash flows correctly, or more efficiently market their products to customers.”

Cohort ModelJust as important as who you’re learning from is who you’re learning next to. Students graduating from top MBA programs have long-term success because they leave not only with strong relationships with their classmates, but also with the know-how to establish long-term “win-win” relationships.

The advantages of the cohort style are networking and relationship building among classmates, as well as learning to work with a group of people across multiple subjects for a specified length of time. -AACSB’s getbschooled blog

The cohort design has been shown to be a powerful way to provide continuity and create strong relationships by maintaining a fixed roster throughout your program. That means each group in the program progresses through the core curriculum together and develops meaningful relationships.

More importantly, a cohort environment teaches the

framework for successful business environments by encouraging teamwork and critical thinking.

Cohort formats have been known to:•Improve communication and problem-solving skills•Encourage collaboration and in-depth explorations of ideas to improve learning

•Strengthen an individual’s confidence and thinking processes

•Improve emotional and psychological well-being during stressful times

George Mason is a large university with all the research, facility, technology, and recreation benefits you would expect to find. Yet, our distinctive cohort structure allows you to retain the benefit of small classes, individualized advising and instruction, and a strong sense of community and support.

The combined career experiences of those within your cohort will be distinct—adding even more depth to an already enriching classroom experience. At the elective stage of the program, you join the students from the various MBA cohorts and campuses in elective courses to study topics of common interest.

MBA Student AssociationThe mission of the George Mason University MBA Student Association (MBASA) is to enhance the experience of George Mason University’s MBA candidates through meaningful social, professional, and educational activities. Participation in the MBASA will provide students with opportunities to network with classmates, colleagues, and local business leaders. We strive to create lasting benefits for MBA candidates through interaction with students, faculty, alumni, business professionals, and business organizations and to create lasting friendships and professional relationships through our programs.

“I visited almost every major school in the Washington, D.C., area when looking for an MBA program and walked away feeling the best about Mason. I think this was due to the way the staff treated me throughout the entire inquiry/application process. I did not feel like just ‘another student,’ but rather, it felt like they actually valued me and what I could bring to the program in terms of my experience and skill set.”
