getting Pasting Right• Placeallyourlengthsontoyourpastingtable(fig.1).
• Usingapastingbrushapplyyourpastetothetoplength,startingatoneendandworkingoutfromthemiddletotheedges.
• Asyoupastethemfoldyourlengthsintolooseconcertinas,witharound600mmbetweenthefolds.Makesureyoudon’tcreasethem(fig.2).

thetopofyourwall,leavingaround50mmsoyoucantrimitlater(fig.6).Thenuseapaperingbrushtosmooththepaperintoplaceandgetridofanyairbubbles–makingsureitlinesupwithyourverticallines.
tRimming aROund YOuR Ceiling and skiRting• Useabrushtogentlytapyourpaperintoplacewheretheceiling
andskirtingmeetsyourwall.Thenusethebackofapairofscissorstoscorealinedownthecornerofthepaper.Afterthat,justeasethepaperawayfromthewallanduseyourscissorstotrimtheexcess.Finally,smooththepaperbackintoplacewithyourpaperingbrush.

Don’ttryanduseawholewidthtopaperaroundacornerbecauseifitisn’tcompletelysquarethepaperwillhangcrookedly.
Sorting out the tricky bits POWeR sOCkets and light sWitChes• Firstthingsfirst–makesureyouswitchoffyourelectricityat
themains.
• Hangyourwallpaperasnormal,themmakediagonalcutsfromthecentreoftheswitchorsocket.Trimoffanywastesleaving6mmexcess.
• Loosenthescrewsholdingtheswitchorsocketjustenoughsoyoucantuckthepaperunderneathit.Tightenthescrewsandwaitforthepapertodrybeforeyouputthepowerbackon.
WindOWs• Thetopofyourwindowscanbetreatedinthesamewayasthe
topofyourdoor.Totrimaroundyourwindowsill,makeahorizontalcutalongthetopofthesill.Thencutdiagonallyintothebottomcornerofthesill.Feelfortheendofthesillandmakecutsuptothisline(fig.8).
• Useabrushtopushyourpaperintotheanglesmadebythewallandthesill.Finally,scoreandtrimthewasteaswithdoorways.
dOOR Reveals and WindOW• Cutawidthofwallpaperthesamedepthasyourreveal,plusan
extra50mm(fig.9).Thenpasteandfoldit,butdon’tputitupyet.
• Takeanotherpieceofpastedpaperandplaceitupagainstthelastfullwidthofpaperyouputup.Thenuseapenciltomarktheedgeofthispiecealongtheedgeofthereveal.Thenputtooneside.
• Takeyourfirstpieceandsmoothontothereveal,beingcarefultolineitupwithyourpencilmark.Thencutthroughthecorneroftheoverlap.
• Carefullytear25mmofftheoverlapandthenuseabrushtoflattenitaroundthecorners.Thetornedgewillnotshowupasmuchasastraightone(fig.10).
• Finally,hangyoursavedfullpiece,makingahorizontalcutwhereithangsovertheopening.Foldtheoverlapintotherevealuptoyourwindowframe,thenscoreandtrimanyexcess.
dOORWaYs • Hangyourwallpaperfromthetopofthewallandsmoothitdown
tothetopofthedoor.
• Useapairofscissorstocutdiagonallyintothecornerofthetopofthedoorandpushthepaperintotheanglebetweenthisandthewall.
• Usethescissorstoscorealongthetopofthedoortheneasethepaperoffthewallandtrimtheexcess(fig.7).

Cutting and Pasting YOuR PaPeR• Startbycuttingenoughlengthsofpapertocoveryourwall.Cut
eachlengtharound10cmlongerthanyouneed,thenplacethemallroughsideuponyourpastingtable(fig.1).
• Usingapastingbrushapplyyourpastetothetoplength,startingatoneendandworkingoutfromthemiddletotheedges.
• Foldyourlengthsintolooseconcertinasasyoupastethem(fig.2).

• Pickupthefirstconcertinabythetopedgeand,startinginthecorner,lineupitsbottomedgewithyourpencilline.
• Useapaperingbrushtosmooththepaperontoyourwall.Workingfromthecentreoutwardswillforceoutanyairbubbles(fig.3).
• Beingcarefulnottotearit,unfoldtheconcertinaasyougoalong.
hOW tO tRim CORneRs• Tapthepaperintothecornerswithabrushthenscorealinedownthe
cornerofthepaperwiththebackofsomescissors.Easethepaperfromthewallandtrimanyexcess.Finally,brushitbackintoplace.
hanging the Rest• Keepbuttinglengthsofpaperuptothepreviousone,working
yourwaydownthewall.Whenyoureachthebottomtrimthelastlengthalongthetopofyourskirting.
•Leaveittodryfor24hours.
Hanging wallpaper the Right ORdeR• Ifyourwallpaperhasanyall-overpattern,startatawindowand
workawayfromitinbothdirectionstowardsthedarkestcornersofyourroom(fig.4).
• Wallpaperwithlargepatternsshouldbecentredonthechimneybreast–orifyourroomhastwowindows,centreitbetweenthem(fig.5).
maRking veRtiCal lines• Markaverticallineeachsideofyourwindowswithaplumbline
orspiritlevel.Measurethedepthofyourwindow’srevealandadd20mmfortrimming(fig.9).Bytakingthismeasurementawayfromthewidthofyourrollyou’llgetthedistancethelinesshouldbefromyourwindow.
• Markanewplumblineeachtimeyougoaroundacorner.

Picking your wallpaper• Ifyou’renewtowallpapering,tryusingaheavypaper.It’seasierto
hangthanlightpaperandyoudon’thavetoworrysomuchaboutittearingwhenitgetswet.
• Makesurealltherollsyoubuyhavethesamebatchnumber,otherwiseyoumightgetsomeslightvariationsinthecolour.
Should you use lining paper?• Ifyourwallhasimperfectionsthatwillshowthroughwallpaperthen
it’sagoodideatoputupliningpaperfirst.
• Hangyourliningpaperhorizontallysothatthejointsdon’tlineupwithyourwallpaper.
• Ifyou’regoingtopaintoverliningpaper,hangitvertically.
Buying the right number of rolls• Astandardrollofwallpaperis53cmwideand10mlong.Measure
aroundtheperimeterofyourroominmetres,includingthedoorsandwindows.Dividethefigureyouendupwithby0.53tofindouthowmanywidthsyou’llneed.
• Thenmeasuretheheightofyourroomandmultiplyitbythenumberofwidthstofindoutthetotallengthofpaperyou’regoingtoneed.
• Finally,dividethetotallengthbythelengthsofyourrolls(normally10m)togetthenumberofrollsyou’regoingtoneed.
• It’sagoodideatobuyacoupleofextrarollsjustincase.
Getting your walls ready• Firstlycleanoffanyloosepaint,plasteroroldwallpaperandfillany
cracks.Thengiveyourwallsagoodwashdownwithsugarsoap.
• Ifanyofyourplasteriscoveredinglosspaint,giveitagoodrubdownwithsomecoarsegritpaper.
