A Message from Eileen

Introducing theInspira Health Network

In April, the new name for our health system was formally announced: Inspira Health Network. That distinction is a milestone in the merger between South Jersey Healthcare and Underwood-Memorial Hospital, and it's worth recognizing.

The new name signifies to the community that the hospitals are united under one new system, which provides excellent health care services across a large portion of southern New Jersey. But Inspira is more than just a name. Pronounced “in-speer-ah,” our new name is taken from the word “inspiration” and I believe it embodies the vision of our network.

The mission of Inspira Health Network is to provide quality care and services to improve the health of the people in our communities. We also believe that the Inspira Health Network will become a source of inspiration to the community and encourage everyone to lead healthier lives.

By merging the systems, the Inspira Health Network provides better health care throughout the region. As a network, it is one of the region's largest organizations with more than 700 beds, 1,000 physicians, 5,000 employees and 60 locations. Most importantly, the Inspira Health Network has a clear and strategic vision for the future of our network and how we can improve the delivery of health care in our region.

The first half of 2013 has been very exciting at Inspira Foundation Gloucester County. With the completion of the merger between Underwood Memorial and South Jersey Healthcare, our shared strengths bring an even higher quality care to our region with an expanded number of providers and services that each of you can access now within our system. Additionally, changes to health care regulations are upon us, making it even more critical for our Foundation to continue to provide renewable financial resources to the health care system.

At the Inspira Foundation Gloucester County, our mission is to support the growth and enhancement of medical services at our local facilities, including the Inspira Medical Center Woodbury and the Family Health Centers in Glassboro, Paulsboro and Mullica Hill.

While the health system keeps the community healthy, we also need the community to continue to support the health system. Every day we see the dedication and pride that the residents of Gloucester County display for this organization and we are proud to confirm that all funds raised in Gloucester County will directly impact only programs in Gloucester County.

All of this happens as a result of heartfelt donations and countless hours of volunteer time. Our signature fundraising events - the Annual Inspira Foundation Gloucester County Ball and the Annual Golf Classic - along with the hard work of our Auxiliaries, provide us with an annual base of fundraising dollars towards our goal and our mission.

These accomplishments are only realized by your continued dedication and support. Together we can build a healthier future for generations to come.

Through a partnership with Rowan University, students are now volunteering at Inspira Medical Center Woodbury serving as patient ambassadors. These ambassadors, along with some of our current patient-care area volunteers, have more time to spend with our patients, offering comfort items; DVDs, music, puzzles, etc. The Rowan students help us to obtain donations for this program, which is an expansion of the already successful patient-area visitation program, as well as our delirium prevention program. We look forward to a long and rewarding relationship with Rowan.

A $500,000 pledge from the Inspira Auxiliary Board is bringing a Clinical Simulation Lab, the latest cutting-edge technology for the optimal training of healthcare providers, to Inspira Health Network Woodbury.

Our plan for this lab includes ve manikins—two adults, two children, and a mother/baby—and the software interfaces so instructors can create eective simulations in any scenario.

“We’re very grateful to the Auxiliary Board for making this investment to our health care training resources,” notes Jim Baca, MBA, CCEMT-P, director EMS, Preparedness & Security. “Our goal is to fully utilize these training tools at every level of clinical education. We will also be the resource for the training needs of our community’s basic life support providers and clinicians at other hospitals.”

“These simulators replicate live patient encounters. The software applications test students under stress conditions without the possibility of introducing errors in care that could harm a patient. If an error does occur, the practitioners can enter the clinical simulation lab and recreate the event as often as needed to understand how the error occurred and what processes need to be created or altered to ensure the error does not happen again.”

The 20th Anniversary of the Underwood-Memorial Hospital/Brown & Connery Golf Classic was held on May 20th at Tavistock Country Club. Despite the forecast, beautiful weather greeted the 120 golfers and volunteers. Attendees were treated to a delicious barbeque lunch as well as on-course refreshments during the day. A lovely dinner followed the event.

It was a great day of golf on one of South Jersey's premier courses, and we thank our many sponsors

and advertisers. Your support helped us to have a very successful event

for the Inspira Auxiliary Board Gloucester County.

We are constantly exploring ways to enhance our clinical service lines, including: Cardiovascular, Oncology, Women’s Health, Surgery and Neurosciences. By learning from the best practices of both SJH and UMH, we will develop processes that foster excellence across our new network. Individually, we have served our communities well. We believe that together we can reach new levels of quality and service—our communities deserve nothing less.

Providing great care where and when it's needed is part of the inspiration that drives the network to care for patients every day. This excerpt from our branding campaign captures this feeling best:

“What does inspiration mean to you?

To us, it's the smile of a mother meeting her newborn; the look of relief when a patient is told they're cancer free; or the grateful eyes of family members knowing their loved ones received great care.

It's these inspiring moments that led South Jersey Healthcare and Underwood-Memorial Hospital to come together … to form Inspira Health Network.”
