The Timberhaven Family

A variety of destructive insects often make their homes deep inside of the trees in our forests. Kiln-drying is the best way to make sure that these bugs (or their eggs) don’t end up in the walls of your home.

— Wm. H. Robinson, Wood-Boring beetles chapter, HANDBOOK

OF PEST CONTROL, 7th Edition

“The heat used in kiln-drying lumber (160-180˚F) will kill termites and wood- boring beetles.”

The process of kiln-drying controls the amount of moisture in the wood products used to

build your home. This wood must be conditioned to the moisture content it will assume

in the months and years after construction, otherwise it tends to shrink and twist.

The Kiln-Dried Difference

4. 7.

“I’ve been building log homes for 28 years. With air-dried logs, sometimes they were so wet that water sprayed out when the spikes were driven in, and they really began cracking and shrinking when the heating season began. That just doesn’t happen with kiln-dried logs.” — John Comer, Builder

We gauge moisture content using the “oven dry” ratio method with the most accurate technology available.

Most manufacturers provide only air-dried logs,

and buyers are often faced with conflicting

information which can lead to confusion and

uncertainty. The simple truth is... kiln-drying is

the best way to eliminate potential long-term

problems with your log home. Unlike “air-dried”

logs, our kiln-dried wood products are uniform;

less susceptible to unwanted shrinkage, check-

ing and insect infestation; and backed by our

Lifetime Warranty!

We dry our solid logs, beams and purlins to 19%

average moisture content and our laminate logs

to 9% average moisture content. After drying,

our wood products are graded by certified

inspectors according to the Log Home Council.

For more information on kiln-drying, talk to one

of our sales representatives or visit our website,

www.timberhavenloghomes.com.

Security and StabilityKiln-drying removes more than 10,000 lbs of excess water from an average sized home package, so our logs are lighter and easier to handle.

Strength and Beauty

Timberhaven takes the highest grade lumber from professionally

managed forests and dries it down to a uniform 9% moisture content.

This allows our experienced staff to produce the most stable,

virtually check-free, high-grade log available in the market.

After the lamination press is complete, we take samples from each

piece to ensure that it meets or exceeds the strict breaking tolerances

set forth by the industry.

Our process has been fine-tuned over many years. We are very proud

to offer this high-quality and truly unique product to the market.

Kiln-Dried Laminate Logs

“Pre-shrunk” before milling, ensuring each log

is stable and uniform.

Minimal checking, warping or twisting.

The high heat sanitizes the logs killing mold

and fungi (which cause wood decay), as well

as insects, their eggs and larvae.

Pitch in the wood is crystallized, reducing the

possibility of the sap seeping to the surface

of your log wall.

1.

2.

Interior and exterior finishes can be applied

immediately following construction. Also,

applications absorb deeper and last longer.

More than 10,000 pounds of water are

removed from the average home, significantly

reducing the weight of the logs.

Higher insulation values, reducing energy costs and

increasing the comfort of your home.

The Benefits of Kiln-Drying

3.

5.

6.

Virtually no checking.

Dryer than a solid log with an average

of 9% moisture content.

More refined appearance – Accepts stain and

preservative the same as the conventional

logs and beams.

Stronger – As an engineered product, the

alternating grain of the individual plies

provides significant strength and stability

to each of the laminated log cants, providing

stronger and straighter logs than a solid log

of the same species and dimensions.

Our engineered laminated log provides more

log profile options.

Superior product at a solid log price!

“In my 27 years in the log home industry, I have provided my customers with what I believe is the best product on the market. I recommend everyone look into the laminated log and really see what benefits you receive from this product.” — Greg Parks, Builder, Searsport, Maine

You’ll want the perfect home plan to complement your piece

of property. If you haven’t already decided on a home plan,

we encourage you to utilize the designs on our website as a

good starting point. A Timberhaven sales representative can

help develop your design, or we invite you to our corporate

headquarters in Pennsylvania to meet with one of our design

professionals to help make your unique design a reality.

Call your Timberhaven Log Home Representative to arrange a

personalized home tour and begin planning your new home.

Working together, you’ll decide on how much home you can afford to build, financing considerations,

contractors, package options and more. If you’ve selected a home design, your representative can provide

price estimates or submit a request for a free detailed pricing. At this point you may also consider

attending one of our Planning and Construction Workshops.

In the early stages of your planning, it’s time to meet with a financial professional of your choice to formally

qualify you for the purchase of your log home project.

About a week after the initial consultation, you’ll meet again with your representative to review the

detailed estimate, finalize any necessary plan modifications and submit a $3,000 plan deposit to start

preliminary blueprints. Your deposit will “freeze” the price of your package for a period of 6 months.

Now you can submit a loan application to your financial institution.

Shipped along with our instructional Construction Manual, your dream home’s preliminary plans will be

ready to review within four weeks. After any modifications are finalized, you’ll sign off on the preliminary

plans and place a 20% deposit so that the official construction blueprints can be completed.

It’s time to select a date for your home package to be delivered. Please allow up to eight weeks from the

time your plan deposit is received. The closing date of your financing needs to be scheduled at least two

weeks prior to delivery.

Lastly, site preparation can be started while Timberhaven Log Homes cuts and prepares your new log

home package. Final payment is due upon delivery.

Happy Building!

Every successful project starts with a great plan that is put into action. Our Timberhaven representatives are here to help you develop the perfect plan of action for your custom-built log home. Here are seven basic steps to help you along your journey.
