D’var Torah: Heshey Spitzer
Sometimes mothers are taken for granted, but this
is nothing new - it is even in the Torah in our
Parsha of Chukas. This week’s Parsha records
the death of Miriam and tells us that after she
passed away the miraculous travelling wells that accompanied
them from Egypt disappeared and there was no water for the
nation to drink. ולא היה מים לעדה... ותמת שם מרים. Comments the
Kli Yakar that the lack of water was because Bnai Yisrael did not
mourn properly for Miriam. When Aharon dies it says that
everyone cried for thirty days ויבכו את אהרן שלשים יום . When
Moshe dies it again says that everyone cried for thirty days ויבכו
. שלשים יום...בני ישראל את משה When Miriam dies – nothing –
“she dies and is buried” ותמת שם מרים ותקבר שם. Hashem
defends the honor of Miriam and takes away the wells. This was
the reminder of the greatness and holiness of Miriam in whose
merit all of Israel was able to survive in the arid desert.
Remember where your blessings come from. Mothers are never
to be taken for granted!
The Congregation Extends Their Condolences To: Joseph Appleman on the loss of his sister, Toby Weingarten, A’H.

Protecting Israel, Protecting Our People
YIDB members & their IDF grandchildren
This week’s IDF spotlight focuses on
Bezalel and Yoav Koplon, grandsons of
Marilyn and David Koplon. Bezalel and
Yoav are the first in our YID profiles to
actually have been born and raised in Israel.
Their parents, Benji and Susan Koplon made
aliyah in 1989. These Sabra boys both began
their IDF service in 2013.
Bezalel has achieved the rank of First
Lieutenant in the Communications Unit. His
specialty is data security. He entered the army’s Academic
Program, whereby he was sent to Ariel University. He received
his B.A. in Physics and is simultaneously completing another
B.A. and M.A. in Electrical Engineering. He has almost
completed his six years of duty.
Yoav entered the army after graduating Machon Lev where he
simultaneously received his high school and college degree.
Machon Lev is a yeshiva in Israel which offers religious studies
as well as emphasis on engineering and technology. He is a
Senior Academic Officer in the Intelligence Division. He has
completed 3 years of his 5 year commitment.
Both Bezalel and Yoav have top security jobs in the IDF. We
were not able to reprint their pictures here in our newsletter. For
security reasons, the IDF forbids posting photos on the internet
of soldiers who hold highly classified positions.
Bezalel is currently single and Yoav has been married to his
wife Tammy for a year and a half.
Marilyn and David are proud of their chayalim (soldiers). They
are impressed with their accomplishments and their service to
Israel. Marilyn and David feel a sense of honor knowing
Bezalel’s and Yoav’s active duty in the IDF has provided
protection for all עם ישראל, Am Israel.
