“Young”By Vallis Alps
Look back To when midnights broke their sleep Awake in our memories Of when we would make believe
Collide Colors of the masquerade Watch as they fall away Faceless under faces made
And weeks went by but felt like hours Spring would lie in summer showers In my hair were winter flowers
And weeks went by but felt like hours Seasons multiplying power That I found in winter flowers
Turn back I see rivers beyond the line Ancient roads in broken design Angels running thru our minds
Look up Your city's built on marble floors Neon lights in the falling snow Those nights back in Tokyo
And weeks went by but felt like hours Spring would lie in summer showers In my hair were winter flowers
And weeks went by but felt like hours Seasons multiplying power That I found in winter flowers
And we said This has only just begun In the end Time forever favors the young
And we said This has only just begun In the end Time forever favors the young

The song reminisces of the past, of those days and times when one is still young and full of vigor. It tries to capture those memories through vivid imagination imbued in deep metaphors and escalates to a degree pertaining to time spent and gone, rendering weeks that felt like hours and the seasons’ multipyling power. It describes how time can go so fast, assuming at first that everything had just begun but ending up realizing that so much has already happened, and that time forever favors the young since they are the ones who still have everything untouched, nonetheless privileged for a fresh start.
This song has great relevance to me since it seemingly connects my present self to this old sentimental version of me, one who used to be more carefree and into a lot of daydreaming. I know that I still have these thoughts and ideas in my head from back then, of which I can’t fathom and express before, and of which are retained in me as abstract images representing mixed emotions related to my past. But through this song, I am able to see and feel these images much more vividly, constantly flowing together with the song’s smooth and free-flowing beat and harmony. At the same time, its lyrics make me realize how time has changed everything and how everything has changed me. And that sometimes I wish I could turn back those times to when I was young and more creative and imaginative, coupled with this deep sense of sentimentality.
