“You Never Asked Me”

When Henry Ford purchased a large insurance policy

for himself, the Detroit newspapers blazoned the fact

since the amount was so large and Mr. Ford was so

prominent. One of the articles was read by an old friend

of Mr. Ford’s, who was in the insurance business.

Completely surprised by the purchase since he had not

heard that Mr. Ford was in the market for insurance, the

friend went to see him and asked if the story was true.

When Mr. Ford replied that it was , the friend asked him

why the policy was not purchased from him since he was a

personal friend and had been for many years. Mr. Ford’s

reply was, “ you never asked me”.

Could it be that someone we have known for years is

not saved, nor a member of our church, because we have

never asked them? Will there be personal friends of our

who will spend eternity in hell because we never asked

them.

How Do I Become A Christian?

Have you ever wondered what you must do to become a Christian or what

you must do to be saved? The Bible has an answer that is easy to under-

stand.

FIRST, you must understand that you need to be saved. The Bible says you

need to be saved because you are a sinner. Your sin has a penalty. You

cannot save yourself. The Bible says, “all have sinned” and the “wages of sin

is death”. (Romans 3:23; 6:23)

SECOND, you must understand that you can be saved. You can be saved

because Jesus died on the cross for your sins. The Bible says, “God demon-

strated His love of us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for

us.” (Romans 5:8)

THIRD, you must know what you need to do to be saved. The Bible ex-

plains how you can be saved. Acts 3:19 says we must repent and turn from

our sins. But repentance alone is not enough. Ephesians 2:8 says that we

must place our faith in Jesus Christ to be saved.

NOW, you must want to be saved. God is waiting for you to “want to “ and

then ask Him to save you. The Bible says, “that if you call upon the name of

the Lord you shall be saved”. (Romans 10:13)

If you are ready to trust Christ as your Savior and Lord, invite Christ into

your heart right now by praying to Him. You may word, your own prayer or

use the prayer printed here. The important thing is that the prayer is sincere

and personal.

“Dear Lord, I know that I am a sinner. I know you died for my sins. Right

now, I invite You into my heart to be my Savior and Lord. I willingly turn

away from my sin and give my life to You. Thank You for saving me,

AMEN.”

Welcome to God’s Family, you have just made the greatest decision of your

life. Tell a Pastor or another Christian friend about your decision as soon as

possible.

“And let us not become weary in well doing, for in due season we will reap if

THE CHURCH COVENANT

By what common experience do we enter into spiritual fel-

lowship and covenant relations with one another?

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to re-

ceive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior; and on the profes-

sion of our faith, having been baptized in the name of our Fa-

ther, and the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now in the

presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly and

joyfully enter into the covenant with one another, as one body

in Christ.

What is the bond of our union with one another?

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk

together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of

this church, in knowledge, holiness and comfort; to promote

its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordi-

nances, discipline and doctrine; to contribute cheerfully and

regularly to the support of the ministry, the expense of the

Church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel

through all nations.

What gracious tasks do we humbly assume?

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to

religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our

kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the

world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements,

and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, back-

biting and excessive anger, to abstain from the sale of and use

of intoxicating drinks as a beverage, and to be zealous in our

efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior.

To what manner of life and conversation are we solemnly

pledged?

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly

love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in

sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feel-

ing, and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but

always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of

our Savior to secure it without delay.

What is our Agreement when we move from this commu-

nity?

We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we

will as soon as possible, unite with some other church, where

we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles

of God's word.

What Benediction concludes our Covenant?

And may the God of peace, who brought again from the dead,

the Great Shepherd of the Sheep, with the Blood of an eternal

covenant, even our Lord Jesus, make us perfect in every good

thing to do His will, working in us that which is well pleasing

in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory for

ever and ever, Amen.

“Happiness is about Doing the Right Thing”

Often we hear that happiness comes from doing things our own way. That, however, is not

true. That philosophy leads only to emptiness, anxiety, and heartache.

Poet W. H. Auden observed people as they attempted to find an escape in pleasures. He

wrote of such people: “Lost in a haunted wood, / Children afraid of the night / Who have

never been happy or good.”

The psalmist David sings of the remedy for our fears and unhappiness. “I sought the Lord,

and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears” (Psalm 34:4). Happiness is doing

things God’s way, a fact that can be verified every day. “Those who look to him are radi-

ant,” writes David (v. 5). Just try it and you’ll see. That’s what he means when he says,

“Taste and see that the Lord is good” (v. 8).

We say, “Seeing is believing.” That’s how we know things in this world. Show me proof

and I’ll believe it. God puts it the other way around. Believing is seeing. “Taste

and then you will see.”

Take the Lord at His word. Do the very next thing He is asking you to do and you will see.

He will give you grace to do the right thing and more: He will give you Himself—the only

source of goodness—and with it, enduring happiness.

WRW Secret Sister MinistrySecret Sisters is a ministry between you and another Sister. You become her silent prayer partner and her secret encourager. She doesn’t know who you are, but she will know you are there, and praying for her daily.

Secret sisters is about encouraging, supporting, and edifying one another in prayer as well as with personal notes, cards and small gifts. It is our hope that your prayer life will bring you into a deeper relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ as you lift your secret sister up.

GUIDELINES.

1. Commit to lifting your Secret Sister in prayer daily.

2. Encourage her by sending uplifting scriptures, poems, cards, notes, etc. (you can buy a gift, but no more than $5 please).

3. Remember your Secret Sister on her special occasions (mark her birthday on your calendar, anniversary or chose a day within the next month as a “Faux Birthday” to celebrate her).

4. Keep her a secret! Don't let her know who you are until the reveal party on Dec 9th, 2018 @ 6:00 PM. During the Christmas Party feel free to bring her one very special card and a gift with a maximum value of $20 dollars. The wrapping is always unique but you should not spend money on wrapping paper/bags, etc. (you can repurpose items).

L a b o r D a y : W h a t i t M e a n s Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and eco-nomic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

L a b o r D a y L e g i s l a t i o n The first governmental recognition came through municipal ordinances passed in 1885 and 1886. From these, a move-ment developed to secure state legislation. The first state bill was introduced into the New York legislature, but the first to become law was passed by Oregon on February 21, 1887. During 1887 four more states — Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York — created the Labor Day holiday by legislative enactment. By the end of the decade Con-necticut, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania had followed suit. By 1894, 23 more states had adopted the holiday, and on June 28, 1884, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories.

F o u n d e r o f L a b o r D a y More than a century after the first Labor Day observance, there is still some doubt as to who first proposed the holiday for workers.

Some records show that Peter J. McGuire, general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a co-founder of the American Federation of Labor, was first in suggesting a day to honor those "who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold."

But Peter McGuire's place in Labor Day history has not gone unchallenged. Many believe that Matthew Maguire, a ma-chinist, not Peter McGuire, founded the holiday. Recent research seems to support the contention that Matthew Maguire, later the secretary of Local 344 of the International Association of Machinists in Paterson, N.J., proposed the holiday in 1882 while serving as secretary of the Central Labor Union in New York. What is clear is that the Central Labor Union adopted a Labor Day proposal and appointed a committee to plan a demonstration and picnic.

T h e F i r s t L a b o r D a y The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on Sep-tember 5, 1883.

In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday, as originally proposed, and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a "workingmen's holiday" on that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many in-dustrial centers of the country.

A N a t i o n w i d e H o l i d a y The form that the observance and celebration of Labor Day should take was outlined in the first proposal of the holiday — a street parade to exhibit to the public "the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations" of the community, followed by a festival for the recreation and amusement of the workers and their families. This became the pattern for the celebrations of Labor Day. Speeches by prominent men and women were introduced later, as more em-phasis was placed upon the economic and civic significance of the holiday. Still later, by a resolution of the American Federation of Labor convention of 1909, the Sunday preceding Labor Day was adopted as Labor Sunday and dedicated to the spiritual and educational aspects of the labor movement.

The character of the Labor Day celebration has undergone a change in recent years, especially in large industrial centers where mass displays and huge parades have proved a problem. This change, however, is more a shift in emphasis and medium of expression. Labor Day addresses by leading union officials, industrialists, educators, clerics and government officials are given wide coverage in newspapers, radio, and television.

The vital force of labor added materially to the highest standard of living and the greatest production the world has ever known and has brought us closer to the realization of our traditional ideals of economic and political democracy. It is appropriate, therefore, that the nation pays tribute on Labor Day to the creator of so much of the nation's strength, free-dom, and leadership — the American worker.
