Musical Theater Workshop • Popular Camp!June 18-22 • 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Students entering grades 6-9Camp fee: $135Instructor: Michelle Klotz, Pius XI Choir DirectorCome join us for a fun-filled week of theater taught by members of the Pius XI Performing Arts Department! Campers will improve their skills in acting, singing and dance while working on a popular musical theater show. Campers will perform their show at the conclusion of the camp. Beginners and seasoned performers are welcome. Bring a lunch and water bottle each day.

Art and Academic Camps

Students grades entering 3-9Camp fee: Free (must register in advance)Instructor: Anne Osmon, TedEd Club FacilitatorThe world is waiting to be redefined by the biggest, smallest, boldest, quirkiest, bravest, most inspiring, and most brilliant ideas from young people around the globe.

In the Pius XI TED-Ed club, students entering grades 3-9 meet weekly to explore their big ideas, facilitate important discussion, and ultimately develop each child’s Big Idea into a public TED-style talk, presented in Pius XI’s professional theater. Throughout the summer, we will work on each camper’s Big Idea and facilitate the development of their individual TED-style talk. Campers will practice public speaking, learn to give and receive feedback, and explore dynamic presentation techniques, including the development of stage presence and the incorporation of graphics and audio.

The Pius XI TED-Ed Club is associated with the TED organization. As a part of the TED organization, campers will gain exposure to TED-Ed Clubs around the globe and expand their worldview. Interested campers will also be invited to join the Pius XI TED-Ed Club that meets throughout the school year.

Pius XI Jazz Band Camp NEW! June 25-29 • 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Students entering grades 6-9Camp fee: $100 Instructor: Dave Barker, Pius XI Band DirectorDo you enjoy jazz music? Always dreamed of being a jazz musician? Curious about what it is to play jazz? This camp is for you! Middle school musicians entering grades 6-9 who have played their instruments for at least 1 year will enjoy learning how to play the basic styles of swing, rock and Latin music. Any band instrument is welcome as well as piano, bass and drum set. Friday’s class will include a mini-concert for parents and friends.

Students entering grades 6-9Camp fee: $125Instructor: Will Swenson, Pius XI Art InstructorAre you a creative thinker who likes to work with hands-on activities? Come explore the basics of animation. From rotoscoping to stop motion technology, students will learn about the world of animated arts. This is a basic, hands-on class where students will use pen and pencil drawings along with other technology while learning from the nationally recognized Pius XI art department faculty. This popular camp has sold out two years in a row so register early to ensure a spot.

Steam Popes! NEW! July 9-12 (4 DAY CAMP) • 12:00 noon – 3:00 pmStudents entering grades 6-9Camp fee: $125Instructor: Sherri Dodd, Pius XI Education Technology SpecialistAre you a creative type who also likes to geek out? Design, code, and publish fun games and interactive stories online while developing your computer programming skills. Practice thinking creatively, reasoning creatively and working collaboratively in this self-paced class using Scratch, a block coding language developed by MIT Media Labs. Suitable for both beginners and students with intermediate skills.

Creative WritingJuly 30 – August 3 • 8:30 am - 11:30 am

Students entering grades 6-9Camp fee: $125Instructor: Evelyn Mullooly, Pius XI Alum and Creative Writing MentorDive into your imagination. Creative writing is all about discovering new ways to express yourself. This camp will help students find their artistic voice and encourage free thought. Students will explore writing short stories, poems, children’s books, and more. Each day will consist of writing prompts, time for students to work on their own material, and small group sharing. Students will have the opportunity to learn from members of the Pius XI writing tutors. The last day of camp will feature a reading performance.

ART AND ACADEMIC

Drawing StrategiesJuly 23-27 • 8:30 am – 11:30 am

Students entering grades 6-9Camp fee: $125Instructor: Will Swenson, Pius XI Art InstructorIn this introductory course, campers will explore drawing as a dynamic language. Campers will be guided through various strategies and approaches to enhance their ability to see and record the world around them. Campers will focus on life drawing and experimenting with various media. This is an excellent camp for students to build their creative confidence and technical skills from the nationally recognized Pius XI art department.

VEX Robotics Skills CampJuly 16-20 • 9:00 am – 3:30 PM M-Th • 9:00 am – 12:00 NOON Friday

Students entering grades 8-12Camp fee: $200Instructor: Pius XI Robotics Team Members and Daniel Shine VEX Robotic Team MentorStudents will work in groups to design, build, and refine a robot. You will be instructed on the parts of the robots and the tools needed for assembly. Students will learn to modify parts to achieve the given task. A mini competition will be held on the final day of camp. Beginners are welcome. Bring a lunch and water bottle.

World Peace Game • Pius Students Only!August 6-10 • 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM

Pius XI students only, entering grades 9-10Camp fee: $25Instructor: Sherry Dodd, WPG International Master FacilitatorA global learning and leadership program, this is a hands-on simulation game that develops creative problem-solving, decision making, negotiation and leadership skills among the players. Students explore the connectedness of the global community through various crises situations presented during the game. Space is limited so register early.

Engineering a Rube Goldberg Machine

• Popular Camp!August 6-10 • 12:30 pm – 3:30 pmCamp fee: $125Instructor: Cathy Zurawski, Pius XI Engineering and PLTW InstructorAre you a creative math-mind? Always thinking about how something could be built better? Then try this hands-on camp and build your own machine! Following the ideas of the Rube Goldberg Competition, students will build a complex, multi-step machine to accomplish a simple task. This popular camp has sold out two years in a row so register early to ensure a spot.

Learn to Crochet NEW! July 30 – August 2 (4 DAY CAMP) • 12:00 noon – 3 pmStudents entering grades 6-9Camp fee: $125 (includes all supplies)Instructor: Evelyn Mullooly, Pius XI AlumLearn the basics of crocheting during this camp. Using one small hook and a ball of yarn, you can create a wonderful project to take home. After learning multiple stiches, you will be able to choose from easy and fun projects to make including hats, scarves, phone cases, coffee holders, headbands, and more. Don’t worry if you have never crocheted before- this camp is about learning the basics for beginners. Camp includes all materials needed to make one project.

Session II: June 25-28 • 12:00 – 2:30 pm Students entering grades 8-9Camp fee: $90This camp is for boys who love basketball, want to work hard and learn to play their best. A love for the game, a positive work ethic and an eagerness to improve skills are the requirements for this camp. Camp is held in the Pius XI Field House.

Girls All-Star Basketball CampJune 18-20 • 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Students entering grades 6-9Camp fee: $65This is an intense camp geared toward the serious player. Players will sharpen the skills learned from the Pius XI Girls Basketball Camp, giving them the experience needed to compete in high school basketball. Camp is held in the Pius XI Field House.

Athletic Camps

Girls BasketballJune 11 – 14 • 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Students entering grades 6-9Camp fee: $90The objective of this camp is for girls to learn the fundamental skills necessary to compete at the next level. Camp is held in the Pius XI Field House.

Each year the Pius XI coaching staff offers a variety of athletic camps for those beginning a sport for the first time and for the serious athlete preparing for high school level competition. Registration must be done in advance and is due no later than one week prior to the start of each camp. On-site registration is not available.

Boys & Girls Run CampJune 19, 21, 26, 28 • July 10, 12, 17, 19 • 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Students entering grades 6-9Camp fee: $25This camp is for boys and girls entering grades 6-9 who want to become successful runners. Beginners welcome! Campers will learn proper stretching and running mechanics, good breathing and pace techniques for a longer run. The camp will feature a fun race the last week. Camp is held at Greenfield Park off Lincoln Ave.

Boys and Girls SoccerJune 25-29 • 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Students entering grades 5-8Camp fee: $40.00 ($50 includes camp t-shirt)Take your soccer skills to the next level at this camp run by Pius XI soccer coaching staff. Be sure to wear soccer cleats, shin guards and bring a water bottle. Camp is held at Rainbow Park, 700 S 119th St.

Boys & Girls Golf CampJuly 30 – August 2 • 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Students entering grades 6-9Camp fee: $150This intensive clinic will help you get a leg up on your competition. Designed for both the beginner and experienced player, golfers will spend time on the range and putting green each day and compete on-course with their skill level for match-like conditions. Camp is held at The Preserve at Deer Creek, 4285 Sunnyslope Rd, New Berlin

Boys & Girls Strength and ConditioningJune 11 – July 19 Monday-Thursday (off July 4) • 8:00 am – 11:00 am

Students entering grades 8-12Camp fee: $60Boys and girls who want to improve their overall strength, flexibility, endurance and speed are encouraged to utilize this program. Proper technique, workload and nutrition will be a focus of this summer long camp. Camp is held in the Pius XI Field House weight room.

Boys VolleyballJuly 23-26 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

Students entering grades 6-9Camp fee: $100The focus of this camp is to teach boys the fundamental skills needed to play high school volleyball. Camp will be held in the Pius XI Field House.

Girls VolleyballSession I: July 16-20 • 9:00 am – 11:30 am / Students entering grades 6-7Session II: July 16-20 • 12:00 Noon – 2:30 pm / Students entering grades 8-9Session III: July 23-27 • 9:00 am – 11:30 am / Students entering grades 8-9Camp fee: $100No frills or individual awards, the objective of this camp is for girls to learn the fundamental skills needed to play high school volleyball. Camp is held in the Pius XI Field House.

Pius XI Summer Camp PoliciesYou will receive an email confirmation of your summer camp registration. Please allow up to 2 weeks for processing.

Camp registrations are due one week prior to the start date of each camp. Camp registrations are subject to space availability. To ensure a spot in any camp it is recommended to register no later than June 1.

In the event that a camp is full or cancelled, you will be contacted by the Summer Camp Coordinator to make alternative arrangements and a refund may be given. No refunds will be given to families who voluntarily withdraw from a summer program after June 1.

Students should be picked up promptly at the end of each camp as there is no after-camp supervision available.

Campers who register for back-to-back camps will have a supervised lunch area provided. Campers must bring their own lunch and drink.

By enrolling your student in any Pius XI Summer Camp, you hereby authorize school officials to take whatever action is deemed necessary, in their judgement, for the health of your child. You consent to any immediate medical procedures that the physician believes your child needs. You accept full responsibility for all costs related to such treatment. You certify that your student is in good health and give permission for your student to participate in any or all programs. You hold Pius XI Catholic High School, its agents and camp workers free from all liability for any injury or loss which might occur as a result of your child’s involvement in the Pius XI Catholic High School Summer Camps. You give permission for photos to be taken of your child to be used in Pius XI literature.
