SALVATION 101

WHAT IS SALVATION?Salvation is a fancy term for getting “right” with God.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE RECEIVE SALVATION?When you decide to put your faith in Jesus, you are saying that you fully believe He is the Son of God, who came to earth, lived a per-fect life, paid the price of sin by dying on the cross, and rose to life 3 days later. This means that you have been cleansed from your sins and have Jesus living in your heart forever!

“We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.” Romans 3:22

Three Steps for Salvation:“AS EASY AS A-B-C”

A is for ADMIT. You admit that you make mistakes, you are not perfect, and that you have done things wrong. You admit that sin has separated you from God.

B is for BELIEVE. You believe that Jesus came to Earth, died for us, and rose again. You have to believe that God will forgive you of your sins.

C is for CHOOSE. You choose that you’re going to live for God. That doesn’t mean you’ll be perfect everyday for the rest of your life, but it means you’re committed to trying to please God by following what He tells us in the Bible and by spending time with Him.

Salvation really is the greatest gift we ever could receive. And that’s the amazing part about it... it’s a GIFT. We didn’t earn it, but God loves us so much

that He WANTED to offer you salvation so you can be His FRIEND.

JESUS IS MORE THAN A SAVIOR Now that you have Jesus in your heart, He will stay

there forever. He will surely become your BEST FRIEND!

GETTING THE FAMILY INVOLVED

Parents! Here at WC KIDS, we believe the best way to help your kids grow a strong relationship with

Christ is by partnering with you. Together, we can encourage the development of your child’s spiritual

walk.

“Love God with your whole heart: love him with all that’s in you, love him with all you’ve got! Write these

commandments that i’ve given you today on your hearts. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall

into bed at high. Tie them on your hands and fireheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the

doorpost of your homes and on your city gates.” Deuteronomy 6:5-9

Here are some practical ways to strength your child’s faith:

-Daily faith conversations-Devotionals and prayer-Serving together as a family

TALKING ABOUT JESUS

How often do you talk about Jesus in your family?

Questions that could be asked on the daily:1. What have you been learning at church this month?2. What is your favorite thing about going to church?3. What has God been teaching you?4. What do you think sin is? Why is it a big deal?5. Can you give me some examples of some sins?6. If you had to describe who Jesus is what would you say?7.. What did Jesus do for us? Why was what Jesus did important?8. How would you describe what being a Christian is to others?9. Do you have any questions about what you are learning at church?

At this point in your child’s life, they are starting to learn more and more about Jesus. You don’t have to be a perfect parent, but you should be a present parent. You can talk about Jesus in the car on the way to school, at the dinner table, before going to bed, anytime!

These conversations are important because it let’s your child know that talking about Jesus is a GOOD

thing.

PRAY...PRAY...PRAY!

Now that you have committed your life to Jesus, you now have the Holy Spirit guilding you! The Holy Spirit is our friend and helper and is what allows us to communicate to God through prayer.

Prayer can be simply described as “Having a Conversation with God”

BAPTISM

“Jesus told his disciples,...go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father

and the Son and the Holy Spirit...” Matthew 28:18-19

When you accepted Jesus as your savior, you recognized that He is the one who saved you from your sins, and you are now part of God’s Kingdom.

Being Baptized by immersion is your way of telling everyone “I have committed my live to Christ and I want to follow the plans He has for me”.

JESUS WANTS US TO BE BAPTIZED

To be very clear...baptism isn’t what saves you; choosing to make Christ the center of your life is what saves you. Baptism is just the outward expression of the inward change you have made with your life!

“For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the

glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Since we have been united with Him in His death, we will also be raised to life as He was.” Romans 6:1-5

HOW DO WE GET BAPTIZED?Jesus is our example: Jesus was baptized: Matthew 3:13-17Baptism is a symbol: Repentance comes before baptism. Baptism is a symbol of the death of our sin and our new life beginning with Christ: Acts 2:38, Acts 8:35-38We Believe and trust Jesus. This belief saves you, not baptism. Acts 16:31

A great illustration is the example of married couples wearing wedding rings. The ring doesn’t make them married. Anyone can put a ring on their left hand ring finger, but it symbolizes their marriage and shows everyone else that they are married.

HOW TO TALK ABOUT BAPTISM WITH KIDS:- Talk to children when they are young about the difference between asking Jesus to be in control of your life and baptism as a symbol of that new life with Jesus. Talk about it often.- Be clear when you talk about your own salvation experience. Make sure to explain that your heart was changed first, and then you were baptized to symbolize what had happened in your heart.

ServingHere at Woodlands Church we have so many serving opportunities! We have ways for you to get your whole family involved. John 12:26 “Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.”

God calls us to serve. Jesus says that if we chose to follow Him, we must serve HIM, but the catch is...by serving Jesus, we are also serving the church! It makes a full circle!

Matthew 25:40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”
