Letter from the EditorsDear Reader, Welcome to our special celebration edition of You Are REAL, the official print magazine of The You Are Project! In order to help you understand what The You Are Project is all about, we have filled this edition with a col-lection of our favorite articles from our online magazine’s first full year. All of these articles —plus many more—can be found online at www.theyouareproject.com. Most importantly, we hope you discover the heart behind The You Are Project. We believe every woman was created with greatness by God for the incredible purpose of bringing life, light and hope to the world. It is our dream to see women empowered by these truths in such a way that the voices of inadequacy and fear are silenced in their life. This magazine and the articles you find on our website are just one way we are working to spread that message. Our desire is to impact the lives of women across the United States through motivational speaking, mentoring programs, and a national network of representatives to assist in planning outreaches across the country. If you are interested in learning more about our vision or making a donation towards our outreach pro-grams, visit www.theyouareproject.com or send an email to [email protected].

Love,

Catherine & LaurenPS: You are amazing!

ON THE COVER:Kenzie Carson is a fashion blogger, and a guest writer for You Are. We are so excited to feature her on the cover of our first printed issue!

More from Kenzie: “The voice of the world is loud and consuming, often telling us we are not good enough. I am so happy that there is an organization like The You Are Project that tells us, ‘you’re good enough because God says you are!’ They are constantly reaching out and encouraging girls with the love of Christ, giving them the tools to live up to their potential. It is an amazing feeling to be on the cover of such an inspiring magazine! I am truly honored.”

Our staff took a vote to select the cover photo from these two choices above. Which photo do you prefer: (1) sweet and styled Kenzie or (2) laid-back, natural Kenzie? Vote for your favorite on our Facebook page!

A flawless bold lip is an awesome way to perk up a tired makeup routine. There are tons of colors to choose from; you could rock a bright pink, red, burgundy, coral, or plum. Whatever color you choose, here are a few tips on how to make your lips stand out and command the attention they deserve:

Make a Statement!Beauty expert Kelsey Tomlinson shows you how to rock a statement lip color.

1. Exfoliate, Exfoliate, ExfoliateThe number one thing you should remember is that you want smooth and flake-free lips. One of the easiest ways to exfoliate your lips is by gently rubbing your lips with a wash cloth, or using a dry toothbrush to gently scrub them. You can also find a lip scrub or exfoliator within many different makeup or skincare brands.

2. Lip linerNot every lip color needs a liner, but when going for a dark color, such as red or plum, it is important to use. Simply find a color that matches or compliments your lipstick of choice, gently line the outer edge of your lips, and then fill them in. Doing this before applying lipstick will not only increase its staying power, but it will keep the lipstick from feathering on the outside of your lips.

3. Simple eye makeupWhen going for a statement lip, you’ll want to keep your eye makeup simple. Too much dark eye shadow com-bined with a bold lip color can look a tad overdone. So stick with something simple, like some pretty winged eyeliner, mascara, and maybe a light wash of a cham-pagne or gold eye shadow

4. Confidence is key! Many women are scared to adventure out into the world of bright lipstick—especially red! There is a bold lip color out there for everyone, and it’s all about having the confidence to rock that color and make a statement. If you find a color of lipstick you love, don’t worry about it being able to pull it off—just wear it and know that you look absolutely stunning!
