A Celebration of Pastor Rebecca’s Ministry at Grace
and A Time to Wish Her Well
All are invited to a potluck dinner on Sunday, November 11, at 5:00 p.m.
in the Fellowship Hall.
Following dinner, there will be singing, reminiscing, and an opportunity for you to let Pastor Rebecca know how much you and all of us will miss her. Share a special memory, bring her a card, a letter, even, if
you wish, a small gift.
This is a very special occasion. We hope you can join us.
- hosted by the Fellowship Committee

Sunday School News • There will be no Sunday School class on Novem-
ber 25. Classes will resume on December 1st.
• The Sunday School would like to thank the
congregation for their support of our pet food and
pet supply drive for Paws 2 Think. If you missed
our drive and would still like to donate, supplies
can be dropped off any time at Tomahawk Pellet
Stove Junction, Family Traditions, or Tomahawk
Warehouse Liquor. The Sunday School would
especially like to recognize Jackie Elliott, who
asked her friends to bring donations for Paws 2
Think to her birthday party instead of gifts for her-
self. Her selflessness is a great example of how to
be a caring steward of God's creation!
Lutheran World Relief Quilts The Tuesday quilters sent 128 quilts to Lutheran World Relief this year. Thank you to everyone who donated fabric and filler materials.
Contemporary Choir The Contemporary Choir is looking for new members to help us lead the Contemporary worship. We sing twice a month on the second and fourth Sundays of each month and practice at 6:30 pm on the Thursday before the Sundays we sing. Come and help us praise the Lord!
A special thank you from Ruth Circle to all who contributed items for the Sewing Kits for Luther-an World Relief. This year, the fabric requirement for each kit was doubled but with your help we were still able to complete 48 kits. The kits are shipped around the world to supply vocational training programs with fabric for teaching sewing and for newly trained tai-lors to launch their sewing business.
Thank you to Jack & Sandy Sonnentag for trans-porting our quilts and sewing kits to Wausau for Lu-theran World Relief distribution.

A WORD FROM PASTOR REBECCA
This is my last article for Grace’s newsletter. I’ve been thinking about it for over a month. I knew the time was coming. I just didn’t realize how quickly it would arrive. I’ve had many ideas, thoughts, and feelings as to where I want to go with it. And, yet, as I sit down to actually write it, the ideas and thoughts flee from my mind. I had hoped to be witty and upbeat – my last printed words to you, my beloved, leaving you with hope, grace, and love. As lofty as that may sound, I will do my best because I believe that hope always vanquishes fear, light over-comes the darkness, grace is more abundant than we are ever capable of understanding, and that love will always triumph. You may be wondering, “What’s next?” I know there is still some anxi-ety as to what will happen at Grace after I leave. Obviously, I don’t know the specifics of that. However, I do know that Grace has been here for over one hundred years. No pastor will be able to change that–past or present. I know that you’ll be fine after I leave. You were a community of faith that did wonderful ministry before I arrived and you will continue to do that same ministry together after I leave. As for what’s next for me, Todd and I hope to be moving soon to his next call. There is a congregation that will vote on October 28, 2012, to call Todd as their next pastor. We will be spending time on the road driving back and forth looking at homes as our schedule allows. In the meantime, we will be packing our house and tying up loose ends. Todd would like to begin his next call on December 1st. I don’t know if that is possible, but we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we are able. I will take the time away from ministry to set up a new home for Todd and me, rest, and discern where God is calling me next. I look forward to being in the same house day after day with my husband. I look forward to not worrying about his being on the road so much. I look forward to having the luxury of time to discern. I don’t know where I’ll end up or if I’ll continue in ministry, but I do know that God has a plan–I simply don’t know what it is at this point. I am grateful to have been your pastor for the past four and a half years. Perhaps it doesn’t always seem like it, but I have given every-thing I had–and sometimes more than I realized I had to give. I am grateful for the opportunity to walk with you through all the ups and downs. I am honored to have journeyed with loved ones during their transition to Eternal Life. I am grateful for the babies and young adults I have baptized. I have been blessed with four classes of Confirmands who constantly remind me that God can work in greater ways than I ever could, and that they do actually listen to what I have to say. For the statisticians in our midst, I have officiated thirty-eight baptisms, twelve weddings, and thirty-five funerals, made countless home and hospital visits, put thousands of miles on my car doing ministry, sent more emails than I could count, and spent hours on the phone with members, friends of members, and strangers in need of ministry. As your pastor, I have also occasionally dropped the ball, failed, and had some bad days. For that I apologize and ask for your forgiveness.

AA/ALANON MEETINGS Grace Lutheran • AA and Alanon: Sat. 9:00 am Grace Community House • AA: Sunday 10:10 am • AA: Friday 7:30 pm (open) St. Paul’s (12 E. Wisconsin Ave.) • AA and Alanon: Monday 7:00 pm If you have a problem with alcohol or if someone you know suffers from the disease, AA (for the alco-holic) or Alanon (for family or friend of alcoholic) could be your lifeline. Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of both these groups. If you would like to speak with someone personally, the church office, 453-4066, or Pastors Ziemer or Iverson can put you in touch with an AA or Alanon member. All communications will be confidential.

I have surely not always been perfect. However, I pray that my time here has, at the very least, planted seeds of something that will continue to grow. I pray that I have made a positive impact on your lives and that some of you may be able to say, “You made a difference in my life. My life is better because you were my pastor.” Thank you for walking with me and ministering to me. I hope you can all come to my farewell potluck supper on Sunday, November 11th, at 5:00 p.m. Also, my last weekend to preach will be Saturday and Sunday, November 24th and 25th. I know that weekend is a tough one to get to church due to family obligations and hunting, but please come if you can. My final requests are that you pray for Grace, pray for and support Pastor Mark, Debbie, Sarah, Erin, Dar, and the ministries of Grace; and pray for Todd and me as we move to the next chapter of our lives together. In closing, it is important to me that I am clear of the boundaries that will be put into place after I leave. Since I will no longer be your called pastor as of December 1, 2012, I will no longer be able to perform pastoral care visits (home, hospital, etc.), preach, or worship with you. These boundaries are set because they are the healthiest way to transition for both the congregation and for Pastor Mark as your pastor. This surely does not mean that I don’t still care for you and love you. It is simply because I will no longer be your pastor. Thank you for the last four and a half years. Thank you for your love and support. I pray that God continues to abundantly bless you and the ministries of Grace. Your Sister on the Journey, Pastor Rebecca

All Saints Remembrance - November 3 and 4, 2012 During each worship service (Saturday, November 4, at 5:00 pm and Sunday, November 5, at 8:30 am and 10:45 am), we will be remembering all whose funerals were held at Grace, or conducted by the pastors of Grace in the past year.
There will also be time for you to personally remember your loved ones who have died in the past years. Please invite other members of your family to join you for this special worship service! Instead of candles we will ring a bell as we come forward. This bell will sound out the reality of our grief and be our tribute to that person. The death of loved ones is the hardest struggle in life. We have a myriad of feelings and emotions. People often don’t know what to say, and well intentioned comments of others can hurt deeply. But, when no one talks about our loss, it can become an even lonelier and hurtful time. Remembering the person, recognizing the loss, and hon-oring the many emotions are important actions in working through grief. To do this in a community of people with prayer, worship, and Communion is a profound action of healing and hope.
Grace follows a 1,200 year old tradition in the church to remember, on November 1, All Saints Day, or the fol-lowing Sunday, all those who have died during the previous year. Please join us at one of our worship services this Saturday or Sunday as we remember your loved one, recognize your loss, and honor the grief you are feel-ing.
2012 Summer Outdoor Worship Recap
The eighth season of outdoor worship services at Schaefer’s Wharf ended on Labor Day weekend! Many thanks to everyone at Grace who participated in, attended, and supported the Summer Outdoor Worship ministry this year. Each year we have returning members who volunteer at the services and more members join us who haven’t participated or attended before. We appreciate you! The warm weather was a true blessing this summer because we had minimal weather concerns to work around and a lot of sunny, hot mornings at the lake!
The mission of the Summer Outdoor Worship service is to minister to the unchurched residents in the out lying Tomahawk area, summer residents, vacationers, visitors, local residents and Grace members, surrounded by the beauty of God’s nature and creation.
This summer included:
Services: 15 services, 4 baptisms, Memorial Day recognition and presentation of colors by the Honor Guard, Crossways camp-style worship, Pastor Jack Mogale from Lekubu parish, Pastor Harvey Jaeger, and Pastor Todd Iverson as guest pastors, and two services moved indoors due to the big pine tree dam-age and a rainy morning.
Volunteers: approximately 25 Grace members and 2 guest music groups
Attendance: Total for all services – 2,080 (9% increase - 194 more than last summer) Weekly average – 139
Weekly Offerings were designated to the following organizations:
Your support and participation continues to make this ministry successful and a wonderful service for our congregation and the community!

November Special Offering Education and More
Education and More is a Christian nonprofit organi-zation working to help alleviate poverty and increase educational opportunities in rural Guatemala. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is what moves us to reach out and help our neighbors in Guatemala in their daily lives as well as in their future. Education and More helps sponsor students so that they are able to attend school. It is a Fair Trade organ-ization that helps artisans market their handcrafts and earn a fair wage for their work. The organization also promotes Christian service by teaching Vacation Bible School and through various building projects with their Guatemalan partners. Al Overhaug serves on the Board of Directors for Edu-cation and More, and he and Debi have traveled with the group on several mission trips to Guatemala. Your offerings will go to a small school in the remote high-lands of Guatemala that is in dire need of help.
From the Stewardship Committee
Showing our Gratitude
Because God is a loving and giving God, He never stops giving to us. God gives us His love, goodness, and mercy daily. He has given us victory over sin and death through His Son. Christ has given us the blessings of forgiveness, justification, a new life, and an eternal hope. Because of His bountiful blessings, we should be compelled to show our gratitude. Do we? Could we, at times, be taking all that we receive for granted? If Christ were to come into our homes in physical form, certainly we would express our thanks in tan-gible ways. We would make Him comfortable, run errands for Him, offer our best food, and give Him our time and attention. However, we don’t have that opportunity, so we show our gratitude in differ-ent ways. One way that we express our gratitude is to give thanks throughout the day in our prayers and thoughts. When we see life and its blessings as gifts, we are prepared to offer our thanks. Our thanksgiv-ing is expressed when we use the faith God has giv-en us to live in obedience to His Word. God hears and sees our gratitude through the lives we live. When we generously share our time and money with others in Christian love, we show our thanksgiving for our gifts. Our giving reflects Christ’s love in us. We extend our thanks to our heavenly Father when we give Him praise and glory in weekly worship and privately throughout each day. As stewards, we find that our gratitude to God opens our hearts to receive more of God’s love which ena-bles us to be more faithful with our time, talents, and treasures. In response to God’s love and grace, we give ourselves and our resources. When we acknowledge God as the creator and owner of all, we will serve the Lord faithfully out of gratitude for all His gifts to us. Our gratefulness to God will enable us to give thanks even during bad times because God promises to comfort and sustain us in all things.
ALL- ABOARD! Toot! Toot! 2013 Trip to Glacier
This trip is for anyone who is reasonably fit for high elevations! The tentative plan is to leave Tomahawk around 6:00 pm on Friday, July 26, 2013, via coach bus, board the Amtrak in St. Paul, travel on a sleeper or passenger area, and arrive at Glacier on Saturday afternoon. Options for housing at Glacier will be Saint Mary’s Lodge, tent camping at a group campsite, or back country hiking and camping. The return trip will be leaving Glacier on Friday morning, August 2, and arrive back at Grace around noon on August 3rd.
For the latest go to the Grace website - www.gracelutherantomahawk.org, watch for bulletin inserts or call the church office. Housing fills up fast at Glacier, so you are encouraged to watch and act soon.

2012 COOKIE WALK & LEFSE SALE December 8—9:30 am The 2012 Cookie Walk and Lefse Sale will be held on Saturday, De-cember 8th, from 9:30 am until sold
out. We need your help. Without assistance and do-nations from our church congregation, this event could not be held. Back by popular demand will be handmade crafts for sale in the Gathering Area. Please mark your calendars and help us have a spec-tacular Cookie Walk by donating a batch of your favor-ite Christmas cookies, candy, or Scandinavian treat. There will be a form in the Gathering Area on which you may let us know what you plan to donate and another form to indicate if you can help on Satur-day, December 8th. Linda Halverson has graciously agreed to be in charge of the lefse making again this year, and will post a list of supplies they need to have donated for it. Lefse making is scheduled for December 3rd and 4th (Monday & Tuesday) at Grace. A sign-up sheet for all of you eager to help with the lefse making, along with a form for the pre-ordering of lefse, will be available in the Gathering Area soon. As in the past, pre-orders can be made by only our congregation. Any lefse made over our pre-order amount will be sold to the public. Barb Schiltz (715) 453-4970 can answer questions about the craft area. Many ladies have been busy mak-ing their donated items, so there will be much more this year. Don't miss out on this opportunity to pur-chase a hand made item for a loved one or friend! Funds this year will be divided as follows: half of the funds raised will go toward landscaping and debt re-duction, and half will go toward the kitchen refurbish-ing fund. Sign-up sheets for those interested in assisting with set up and packaging/pricing candy on Friday, Dec. 7th, as well as serving and taking down on Saturday, Dec. 8th, will be in the Gathering Area. Please join in this festive event in whatever way you can. Enjoy the fun and help our church as well. Feel free to call if you have any questions. Wednesday - November 21st 7:00 PM at
United Methodist Church Give thanks to the Lord for all God’s blessings on your life, family, community, nation, Creation, and the world. We have been blessed with ample rains that have replenished the earth and filled the swamps, lakes, streams and rivers. The Northwoods overflows in beauty and wonder. “Thanksgiving” is a gift and an attitude. It is important to develop this spirit within us to realize all the blessings we have been given.
Constitution News A new Constitution of Grace Lutheran received a first vote of approval at the Annual Meeting on January 18,
2012. Two votes are required to adopt this Constitution. The second vote is scheduled to be taken at the Annual Meeting in January, 2013.
Please contact the Church Office or the Constitution Task Force members with any concerns, inconsistencies, or desired changes that you see for the new Constitution, Bylaws, or Continuing Resolutions. Members of the Constitution Task Force are Herb Heyne, Dick Huntoon, Everett Lange, Joe Story, and Pastor Mark.
The Constitution Task Force met on January 30, 2012 in response to concerns, inconsistencies, and desired changes that were raised at the 2012 Annual Meeting and thereafter. Actions that the Constitution Task Force are recommending are listed below. Please contact the members of the Constitution Committee if you have any other issues concerning the Grace Lutheran Constitution, Bylaws, or Continuing Resolutions.
Recommended changes to Bylaws & Continuing Resolutions Actions and decisions taken at the Constitution Committee meeting on January 30, 2012: In attendance were Ev-erett Lange, Joe Story, Dick Huntoon, Herb Heyne (via Skype), and Pastor Ziemer. Continuing Resolutions can be added or amended immediately following approval and adoption of the Constitution. All of the following, ex-cept where indicated. are Continuing Resolutions.
Page 4 C3.03.A13 For clarity the words Churchwide Council, Synod Council, and Congregational Council are used in
reference respectively to the ELCA Churchwide Council, the East Central Synod of Wisconsin Council, and the Congregational Council of Grace Lutheran Church in Tomahawk. However, re-flecting common understanding and wording in the life of the congregation, the Bylaws of Grace uses the wording, Church Council, to refer to Grace Lutheran congregation’s Church Council.
Page 7-8 C8.02.A95 Baptism Policy The entire paragraph is recommended for deletion. C8.02.B11, Baptismal Policy clearly states both the Scriptural Basis and the Theological Basis for baptism by Grace Lutheran Church. Page 12 C12.01.A13 Definition of Youth and Young Adult C12.01.B13 A youth shall be a confirmed member through 18 years of age. A young adult shall be a member 19
through 29 years of age.
Page 14 C12.07 Discontinuation of Membership By Law Change - requires Council approval & 30 day notice This paragraph provides for a self-review of how Grace Lutheran is doing with regard to achieving
its reason for being in terms of our Christian witness, missions, and ministry. The recommenda-tion is to leave C12.07 as it is stated. However, in reviewing paragraph C12.07.01, it was agreed that the negativity expressed in sections b and c did not reflect the welcoming culture of Grace Luther-an Church and should be deleted. Therefore, under C12.07.01, only sections a and d (renumbered to b) should remain.
Page 15 C13.02 Nominating Committee
Committee recommends leaving it as stated. Under the new constitution, there will be six members for the nominating committee: the three outgoing members of the Congregation Council and the three outgoing members from the preceding year.
