PPV=positive predicted value = true positives/(true positives + false positives)
-Many methods identify deforestation polygons >~3ha-Quality flags for clouds and bad data improve accuracy-MODIS detection will not identify small clearings <~3ha and will underestimate total area deforested-Appropriate method depends on user’s needs to minimize false positives vs. omission error

PORTANTO, A LOCALIZAÇÃO DESSAS ÁREAS PODE SER ANALISADA SEM NENHUMA RESTRIÇÃO, PORÉM OS VALORES DE ÁREA DO DETER DEVEM SER UTILIZADOS DE MODO RELATIVO. SE O INTERESSE FOR ÁREA DESMATADA, O USUÁRIO DEVEUTILIZAR OS RESULTADOS DO PROJETO PRODES DIGITAL (www.obt.inpe/prodes).
ÁREA DO DETER ≠ ÁREA DO PRODES DIGITAL
CONCLUSIONS
1) Mask of previous year’s deforestation (PRODES DIGITAL) is key to identify new deforestation (DETER Project) in current year 2) MODIS can provide rapid assessment of deforestation events but is not substitute for high-resolution analysis to estimate area
3) The quality control done by experient interpreters is important for the success of deforestation detection
OPERATIONAL ACTIVITIES OF DETER PROJECT
1) Analysis of MODIS daily image 2) New deforestation areas (weekly, monthly, ...)
3) Incorporate methods as automated as possible
4) Send the information to IBAMA
