York University is Diverse

York University is provides accessible education and as a result is highly diverse.

Our student body is dramatically different from other Ontario universities in many ways.

York has a relatively high proportion of – female students;– older students; and – students from historically disadvantaged groups including – visible minorities, and first generation students

York students are also more likely to be studying part-time

York Students Work While Studying

The estimated family incomes of York students are among the lowest in the province.

A large majority of our students spend a great deal of time working for pay.

At the same time, they are risk averse with a lower proportion applying for OSAP and graduating with debt.

22

York has a Strong Concentration of Students in the Social Science and Humanities

A higher proportion of our students are in the social sciences and humanities.

An implication of this a relatively low average funding weight which has lead to low levels of grant funding per student.
