There was a girl who went to the Fort Worth Stock-yards on an adventure with the YET Summer Camp. She has such a great time, learned a lot about the Old West, Rodeo, Cowboys, found her way through an AWESOME MAZE and even go to see a real cattle drive. If you have not guessed yet, that girl was me. I am Annette. Last Friday, I got to go on one awesome Field Trip to the Fort Worth Stock-yards. I was given a behind the scenes tour and got to see all sorts of animals like horses, birds, goats, sheep, cows and a real Longhorn! I met real cowboys and cowgirls.

My tour guide showed my group around the Stockyards and taught us all about the animals and explained why the cowboys raise their animals today. At the Fort Worth Stockyards, you can take a picture sitting on a Long-horn if you would like. You can even get on a horse car-riage and take a ride around the Stockyards. It was a field trip, so we could not do that, but it still was re-ally cool to see all of the people taking pictures when I was eating lunch and the

horse carriage parked right in front of us, so I got to see the horses up close!

On my field trip, I learned so much!

Today, Fort Worth is the 16th largest city in the United States and the fifth largest city in Texas. While Fort Worth is mod-ern and big today, it was not always like that! Did you know that between 1866 and 1890, drovers trailed

more than four million head of cattle through Fort Worth? The city very quickly became known as, “Cowtown.” That is where Fort Worth really got its big start and the city growth boomed.

I did not just learn a lot about the history of Fort Worth and the animals of the Old West, I also got to go in a very big maze! It was so awesome! The maze was made up of high walls, and lots of signs, the goal was to find your way through the Maze to four sta-tions that had the letters M, A, Z, E. When you found each letter you where to place the hole punch on your card. My friend and I got so lost inside the maze,

but in the end, we made it out and each got to

hole punch our cards! I even got

a small prize about! It was fun! I had a fantastic time at the Fort Worth Stockyards, it was cool and I must say going to this great place made me proud to be a Tex-an! Especially when I saw all the flags everywhere and learned about the Old Western Cowboys his-tory that helped built the city!

I wish to dedicate this story to my beloved grandma. I love her so very

much and I will always remember her.

My grandma’s name was Sharon. My grandma was very beautiful, she was kind, loving and she loved to tickle me. My grandma taught me about the love of God, how to write, how to read and she showed me how to be kind to others. She taught me many things including how to play cross-word puzzles.

My grandma as very loving. After she passed away, it was hard for me to feel happy. I would come to the YET and try to hide my sadness, but some days I would cry. No matter how sad I felt, my friends at the YET would help me feel better. They would make me smile and laugh. In dance class, Ms. Amy told me that dancing is a way to express your feelings and every time I would dance in her class, I would feel better in-side. One day at summer camp, I was sitting on the stairs crying and feel-ing very sad when Ms. Sirena came and encouraged me and I felt better. She asked me if I wanted to write a

special story for my grandma, I told her yes and she let me come to newspaper class to write this story.

Thinking about other things that made me feel encouraged, I re-membered chapel time. In chapel, I would hear Mr. Ian sing, “I’m trading my sorrows, I’m trading my pain.” The first time I heard him sing, I felt sad, but then I saw him

smile and sing, “Yes Lord, Yes Lord, YES, YES, LORD!” and when I saw him do that I felt that God was with me in that mo-ment. It felt good to know that God is always with me, just like my mom told me. Hearing Mr. Ian sing other songs in chapel like the song about God’s house having lots of rooms made me feel bet-ter inside. Mr. Ian helped me to feel like my grandma is watching over me.

Without my friends and teachers at the YET, I would be at home along and wouldn’t have all the wonderful people helping me at this time. Thank you to Ms. Amy, Mr. Ian, and Ms. Sirena for helping me feel better. Thank you to my friends Monica, Cory, Kirsten, Patricia, Faith Willow and everyone in the 9-year-old group for being nice, friendly, and always making me smile. To my Grandma Sharon, I love you and I will never forget you. If you are feeling sad like me or have gone through the same thing that I have gone through, I hope you can read my story and know that they are looking down on you and they love you no matter what.

My Beautiful Grandmother! By: Haley (9)

Currently there are around 75 wild species of tulips and over 150 species in total with over 3,000 varieties. Tulips are perennials (this means a plant that lives for more than 2 years). They bloom in the spring, usu-ally for only 3 to 7 days. Tulips come in all colors; however, my favorite tulip is the red one. If you want to see tulips, you can find them at your flower shop, the grocery story in the flower section or by possibly visiting the Dallas Arboretum. Ms. Sirena taught me about the Dallas Arbore-tum in class when I was writing this story. The picture for this week was taken at the Dallas Arboretum during the spring time. It seems like a really nice place to go.

I hope that by sharing my flower of the week with you, that you smile and remember that God loves you.

Hi, my name is Audrey. I love flow-ers because the different colors of the flowers are beautiful. When I see the different colors of the flowers, I feel happy. This is my way of sharing flowers with every-one.

Every week, I will write about one of my favorite flowers and I will be sure to include a picture. Last week I shared a picture of a bluebonnet, the bluebonnet is the state flower of Texas. This week, I am going to share with you another one of my favorite flowers.

This week’s blossom selection is the Tulip!

When I was seven years old, “Here Comes The Sun,” by The Beatles, was the first English song I learned. Even though it is very old. I learned this song from my English School singing group. From the moment I heard this song, I knew that I loved it. I like its happy saying, I like its sound which is unique, I like its sentences when they use the word “sun,” it makes me feel warm. I feel my life relates to the song in so many ways, like when it says, “the smiles re-turning to the faces.” My smiles return to my face when I hear this song even when I have a bad day.

I spent a long time memorizing and learning this song. Me and my friend Luby Pass would laugh tears, happy

and sad. We would get away from oth-ers, just to sing this song together.

While I have learned many other songs, this song is still my favorite. I wanted to share it with you, if you are having a happy day enjoy the sun and warmth. If you are having a

bad day,

Now that you have learned a few details you might want to come to the YET. If you are still thinking may-be I should come or maybe I should not come, let me tell you I think that it is fun. The first day of camp I did not want to go, I changed my mind and now I like it here. I had the best day of my life and I know you will too! Come play at the YET, meet new peo-ple and learn lots of fun things!

In the following week, we had so much fun at the YET in Arlington, Texas. I had fun because I spent the week learning how to play instru-ments. I went on a field trip to the Fort Worth Stock Yards. I also hung out with my cousin.

What does YET stand for, Youth Education Town. At the YET they teach you about skills like dancing, singing, playing guitar, piano, brass band and so much more! They help you to learn in a fun way! We even have science classes where we can try cool experiments, cook or make

Playing Piano is fun and something that I like to learn. I have never played the piano before coming to summer camp at the YET in Arlington, Texas. I have learned lots of differ-ent things in just the first two weeks of summer camp. I have learned what the lines and spaces on a musical staff mean. The notes that are found on the lines on the trouble clef are E, G, B, D, F. A fun way to remember

what notes are on the line is to remember a funny saying Ms. Bri-anna taught me, “Every Good Boy Does Fine. ” A fun way to re-member the notes in the spaces is to remember the word FACE. Those are the letters for each space from the bottom line up F, A, C, E.In Ms. Brianna ’s class I have also learned the difference between whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, and sixteenth notes. The difference is basically how long you play the note for. I wasn’t only able to learn about the names of the notes and how long to play them I was also able to play full songs. I can now play two different songs,

“Old McDonald Had a Farm” and “Merrily We Roll Along.” “Merrily We Roll Along,” is basically just like “Mary Had a Little Lamb.” I was not able to play the notes as

well as Ms. Brianna, but every day I practice I excel. I love going to piano class with Ms. Brianna, it is so much fun and I learn a lot of new things about mu-sic and playing the piano in every class. If it were not for the YET summer camp I would probably never have had the op-portunity to play the piano as I do now. Thank you, Ms. Brianna, for all you have taught me.

to score. I try my best to do tricks just like my dad. My dad can do so many cool tricks, he is the best soc-cer player I know. I hope that I can be a soccer player just like him. When we play, my dad tells me, “Good job,” and, “That was a good one bud-dy.” When I miss the goal, he does not get mad, but he tells me, “That was a close one.” Then, sometimes when I kick the ball to the fence he tells me, “out of bounds.” Playing with my dad is fun and helps me learn a lot about playing soccer. I will

never forget the days my dad played soccer with me. Sometimes, if I am lucky, we play until the sun goes down.

My favorite thing to do with my dad is play soccer, it is my favorite sport. When we play soccer, it makes me feel that I am fantastic at soccer. When my dad comes home, I grab my soccer ball and say, “Dad do you want to play soccer?” Sometimes he is busy, but my favorite time is when he tells me, “sure.”

That’s my favorite time because then we play soccer a lot. We go to our backyard, where we have these cool nets. We than take turns playing the goalie and kicking the ball into the net

Hey everyone, my name is Ed-gardo. I love sports and the ath-letes that play professional sports. These athletes dedicate their entire lives to their specific sport, spend countless hours prac-ticing, training, and always trying to improve their game. Every ath-lete’s goal is to excel at a higher level. Every week, I will share with you about an athlete that I think is cool, tell you a little about them and about the sport they play.

This week, I want to share about my all-time favorite athlete Lionel Messi. All the fans of football know him best as just Messi. Li-onel Andres “Leo” Messi was born on the 24th of June in 1987 in Ro-sario, Argentina. He is an Argen-tine professional footballer.

(Note: footballer, is a word that is used to describe someone who plays the game of soccer, a game that is played by kicking a ball with your foot; hence the title, footballer.)

Messi, currently plays as a for-ward for Spanish club FC Barce-lona and the Argentina national team as the number 10. Lionel Messi, is arguably the best foot-baller in the world now. He is of-ten compared to other great players like Pele and Maradona. As an international player, Messi is the all-time leading scorer of his country and he is also Argen-tina’s youngest player to ever play and score in a FIFA World Cup.

Henry was going to bed one evening. Then he heard a knock on his window, he got out of bed, looked out of his window

and saw a lot of zombies. He then made a potion to turn the zombies back into peo-ple. He rushed to find his friends. They

put the potion into water guns. Then they went outside and found the tallest building in the city. There they built a

big gun to spray the zombies and turn the zombies back into people. They loaded

the big gun with the potion and saved the day!

And God made that grass. You know the stars that you see lighting up the night sky? God made those stars, and God made that sky. God made everything, even you.

Think about this: if God is so crea-tive, and if God made you and made you like Him in some ways, that means you’re creative too. How cool is that?! You have creative thoughts and feelings and abilities that you can use to make things that have never been made before, or bake things that have never been baked before. You can create by

Another great week of camp has come and gone, and one of the highlights was the time we spent together in the chapel each morning. Staff members and teen leaders-in-training led us in songs of praise and worship, and dur-ing our devotional time we learned about creativity, focusing on the Bi-ble’s Genesis account of our world’s beginning. Check out what we learned:

Many of our campers have already memorized our Bible verse, Psalm 139:14 – “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Not only did God make some wonderful things, He also made you so that you can live with Him in His creation. Happy Birthday Mr. William!

Hi, my name is Monica and I love mov-ies. One of my favorite things to do is watch movies with my family. One day when I grow up I hope to be-come a movie director. I have seen lots of movies. Eve-ry week I will be sharing a movie review with you. If you want to know if a movie is good, ask me your friend Monica. I will tell you about the movie and what I thought.

BASED ON A TRUE STORY! AN AWESOMELY FUN FAMILY FILM

If you are looking for a movie like this, then Moana is the movie you want to see. Moana is rated PG by the Motion Picture Association of America. A movie that is rated PG means Parental Guid-ance Suggested, this is a fancy way of saying you should watch the movie with your parents. The movie was produced by a man named Osnat Shuer and re-leased by Walt Disney Pictures. The movie was directed by two people, Ron Clements and John Musker.

Moana is based on a true story. I will tell you the story. Three thousand years ago, the sailors crossed the vast Pacific. Well it’s a long story & you should just watch the movie. But, my favorite part is when Moana’s pet pig gets sad because Moana said she eats bacon! That part is funny! I also love how in the movie you adventure along with Moana, not only on the ocean but as she is searching for who she is, self-discovery. You should watch the movie with your family all together. Buy some popcorn, sit on the sofa, and have a great time!

them. When Kirby landed on the plan-et, he could not speak, so they guessed his name.

Some of the other characters in the cartoon are a girl named Tiff and her brother Tuff, their friends Folo-lo and Falala. In the cartoon, Tuff always plays with Kirby and they are

close friends. The conflict comes when King Deedeedee becomes jeal-ous of Kirby because Kirby becomes more popular then him. So, in order to try and make Kirby leave, he re-pairs his starship. The king repairs Kirby’s starship in the hopes that he will leave the planet and never return. Kirby became sad because with his starship fixed, he would leave the planet and leave his friends behind.

As Kirby was leaving the planet, his starship explodes. Thankfully Kirby was not hurt and in the end his is hap-py to stay with his friends.

I recommend this cartoon if you like action, comedy and are look-ing for something good to watch. Just know that Kirby: Right Back at Ya is rated for kids ages 7 and up.

In this cartoon, there is a star warri-or and his name is Kirby. Kirby is pink and small but he never gives up. This is how his story begins. Once upon a time, there was a Star Warri-or and his name was Kirby. Kirby should have slept for one thousand years, but his ship crashed on a plan-et. It had life, a statue called Kabue told the humans that a star warrior would come to their land to protect

My name is Isaiah and in the News-paper class, Ms. Sirena asked me to read “Cars 3 Driven to Win!” The book is a level 3 book, that means I am up for the challenge of reading. Some of the words were hard at first, but now I know them. Some words in the book like Ster-ling, Ramirez, system, disguises, flipped, nervous, Florida, training, finally and idea were hard for me to read at first, but now I know how to read them!

The book “Cars 3 Driven to Win!” was good and funny. In the book, Cruz remembers one of Doc’s tricks and flips over Storm to win the race. I really like how Cruz beat Jackson Storm in the big race. Another good part of the book is when Lightning changed the

color of his car to blue and black. Other people should read this book because it was a great book about cars, adventure, races and fun!

My name is Domanic and I am 7 years old. Next year, I will be in the sec-ond grade. I read a book called The Secret Life of Pets Meet the Pets. This book is a level 3, that means it is for kids who are in grades first through third grade.

The book was fun to read. My favor-ite part is when I met Max. Max is my favorite pet because he is a lucky dog. He lives in an apartment in New York City. I also like Snowball, he is a

funny bunny. He also saved Max & Duke from the water.

In case you have not seen the movie, you can read this book and learn the pet’s names. If you have seen the movie, you can learn more about the pets. If you are looking for a good book, go to the library and check out The Secret Life of Pets Meet the Pets.

In newspaper, I read the book Bis-cuit’s Day at the Farm. It is an easy story, that is also a good story for children to read. In the story, Bis-cuit makes friends with a pig and they play together. Then the pig runs out of his pig pin and runs away. The rest of the story Biscuit is try-ing to find his friend the pig.

I like the story and I would tell others to read it. It is a good book for people just starting to learn to read English.

“To catch the reader's attention, place an interesting sentence or quote

from the story here.”

When I am in China, I love it! It is so beautiful, it has rice dump-lings, houses, famous landscapes, and the Tiananmen Square. The rice dumplings are yummy, warm and delicious. Rice dumplings are my favorite. There are other yummy foods in China too like vegeta-bles, soups and tea. There are fa-mous land-scapes that are beautiful. I have been to the Hanshan Temple, The Great Wall of China, Suzhou Lion Grove Garden and many more beautiful land-scapes.

Tiananmen Square is in the capital of China, the wall is red and white and has a picture of the president and some words, “Chinese: 中华人民共和国万岁,” this means “Long Live the Peo-ple’s Republic of China.”

There is also other words, “Chinese: 世界人民大团结万岁,” this means “Long Live the Great Unity of the World’s Peoples.” The Tianan-men Square is in Beijing, and Tiananmen means “Gate of Heavenly

Peace.” This beauti-ful landscape is a national symbol and is a very beauti-ful place.

When I lived in China I lived in a place called Yan-jiao, China. It is a very small place, but when I lived there I had lots of fun. I have the best mem-ories with my family and friends. Every day I remember playing with my friends, going to school to learn and have fun. I remember going to

the market with my grandma to buy some vegetables. I remember the markets always being full of lots of people.

In China, the history is very, very long. The first four countries, “old Egypt, Ancient Babylon, old China and old India,” but we do not know how the three countries got de-stroyed. But China was not de-stroyed, so China’s history is very, very long, rich, beautiful and well kept.

I wanted to share my beautiful Chi-na with you so I wrote this story and have brought pictures for you to see more about the country I have come from. My friends say it is a place that is around the world, far away from the YET in Arlington, Texas. On a big world map, from the YET in Arlington, Texas to Bei-jing, China is approximately 11245 KM, that is over 6,987 miles away! It would take a 16-hour plane flight to travel there. A whole day of travel. China is very, very beauti-

ful and I am glad that I can share with you such a beautiful place.

the YET. Anytime you see us around, feel free to say hello! You

can call us "Lieutenant" or "LT." If you see us with our baby girl,

tell her "hello" as well! Her name is Eva. We are so excited about

all that you will learn and experience this summer. See you

around!
