Mashiach

     “Purge  out  therefore  the  old  leaven,  that  ye  may  be  a  new  lump,  as  ye  are  unleavened.  For  even  CHRIST  OUR  PASSOVER  is  sacrificed  for  us.”    

           –  I  Corinthians  5:7  

 

 

 

Rabbi  Gamaliel’s  Sage  Wisdom  The  renowned  sage  Gamaliel,  the  rabbi  of  Sha’ul  [Paul],  said  that  we  must  recognize  and  discuss  the  three  God-­‐mandated  elements.  In  addition  to  juice,  Gamaliel  is  correct:  matzah,  maror,  pesach.    

Passover  Is  For  The  Church     Preparation  For  Passover  A  Picture  of  Salvation  The  story  of  Passover  has  been  told  for  over  3,000  years  and  it  is  the  greatest  illustration  of  man’s  need  of  redemption  from  bondage.  Yeshua  is  the  redeemer  and  we  are  spiritually  part  of  Israel,  meaning  this  feast  is  for  YOU!  

We  Are  Commanded  to  Keep  Passover  “And  this  day  shall  be  unto  you  for  a  memorial;  and  ye  shall  keep  it  a  feast  to  the  Lord  throughout  your  generations;  ye  shall  keep  it  a  feast  by  an  ordinance  for  ever.”  –Ex.  12:14    “Purge  out  therefore  the  old  leaven,  that  ye  may  be  a  new  lump,  as  ye  are  unleavened.  For  even  Christ  our  Passover  is  sacrificed  for  us:  Therefore  let  us  keep  the  feast,  not  with  old  leaven,  neither  with  the  leaven  of  malice  and  wickedness;  but  with  the  unleavened  bread  of  sincerity  and  truth.”             –  I  Corinthians  5:7-­‐8      Yeshua’s  Attitude  Towards  Passover  

“And  he  said  unto  them,  With  desire  I  have  desired  to  eat  this  Passover  with  you  before  I  suffer;”      –  Luke  22:15    “I  will  not  drink  henceforth  of  this  fruit  of  the  vine,  until  that  day  when  I  drink  it  new  with  you  in  my  Father’s  kingdom.”  

       –  Matthew  26:29    

 

“Speak  unto  the  children  of  Israel,  and  say  unto  them,  Concerning  the  feasts  of  the  Lord,  which  ye  shall  proclaim  to  be  holy  convocations,  even  these  are  my  feasts.”  –  Lev.  23:2  

Purging  of  Leaven  From  the  Home  All  leaven  is  removed  from  the  home,  as  it  pictures  sin  and  uncleanness.  Even  the  children  get  to  participate.  They  find  crumbs  of  leaven  and  bring  them  to  the  father,  who  sweeps  them  into  a  wooden  spoon  and  into  the  fire.  The  picture  of  eternal  judgment  of  sins  is  there.    

Setting  the  Table  &  The  Elements  The  father  is  responsible  for  the  table  setup.  The  appropriate  dishes  and  elements  must  be  in  place.  There  must  be:  

Matzah  –  unleavened  bread  

Fruit  of  the  Vine  –    non-­‐alcoholic  red  grape  juice  

Charoset  –  a  sweet  mix  of  nuts,  apples,  and  cinnamon  

The  Zeroah  –  a  lamb  shank  bone  

Maror  –  the  bitter  herb;  normally  horseradish    

Karpas  –  parsley  

Salt  Water  –  a  bowl  of  salt  water  for  dipping  into  

Egg  –  this  crept  in  during  the  Babylonian  captivity  in    connection  with  the  goddess  Ishtar.

The  Four  Cups  of  Passover   The  Cup  of  Sanctification  

 

The  Lighting  of  the  Candles  Baruch  Ata            A  lady  recites  a  blessing  and  lights  two  candles.      Baruch  Attah  Adonai,  Eloheinu  Melech  Ha-­‐olam,  Asher  Kid-­‐shanu  B’mitzvotav  V’tzivanu    L’hadlik  Ner  Shel  Yom  Tov.    

    Blessed  are  You,  Lord  our  God,  King  of  the  Universe,  who  

has  sanctified  us  with  His  commandments  and  commanded  us  that  kindle  the  Holiday  lights.    

  The  first  candle  is  for  the  woman  who  brought  Mashiach  into  the  world  and  blessed  the  world.    

  The  second  candle  is  for  the  announced  birth.  

The  Cup  Blessing  Everyone  holds  up  their  cup  and  recites  the  blessing  and  partakes.

Dipping  of  the  Karpas  Everyone  dips  parsley  in  salt  water  and  recites  a  blessing:  

Baruch  Attah  Adonai,  Eloheinu  Melech  Ha-­‐alom  Boreh  Pree  Ha’adamah  

Blessed  are  You,  LORD  our  God,  King  of  the  Universe,  who  creates  the  fruit  of  he  earth  

The  Four  Questions  A  child  reads  the  four  questions:    

1.  On  all  other  nights  we  eat  leavened  or  unleavened  bread;  on  this  night,  why  only  unleavened  bread?  

2.  On  all  other  nights  we  eat  all  vegetables;  on  this  night,  why  only  the  bitter  herb?    

 

3.  On  all  other  nights  we  do  not  dip  our  vegetables;  on  this  night,  why  do  we  dip  them  twice?    

4.  On  all  other  nights  we  eat  sitting  or  reclining;  on  this  night,  why  reclining?    

ANSWER:  We  were  slaves,  but  God  delivered  us  and  we  commemorate  it  by  removing  the  leaven,  remembering  the  bitterness  of  bondage,  dipping  twice  and  reclining  as  free  people.

The  Cup  of  Sanctification   “I  will  bring  you”  The  Cup  of  Deliverance     “I  will  rid  you”  The  Cup  of  Redemption   “I  will  redeem  you”  The  Cup  of  Eliyahu  /  Praise   “I  will  take  you”    “Wherefore  say  unto  the  children  of  Israel,  I  am  the  LORD,  and  I  will  bring  you  out  from  under  the  burdens  of  the  Egyptians,  and  I  will  rid  you  out  of  their  bondage,  and  I  will  redeem  you  with   a   stretched   out  arm,  and  with  great   judgments:    And   I  will   take  you  to  me  for  a  people,  and  I  will  be  to  you  a  God:  and   ye   shall   know   that   I   am   the  LORD  your   God,   which  bringeth  you  out   from  under   the  burdens   of   the  Egyptians.”                                                          –  Exodus  6:6-­‐7  

 

 

Telling  of  the  Story:    

Whether  orally  or  by  reading  the  Exodus  account,  the  whole  story  of  bondage  and  deliverance  is  recalled  in  detail.  All  tellings  begin  with  the  words  “When  we  were  slaves  in  Egypt.”    

Hiding  of  the  Affikommen   Dipping  In  Maror  and  Charoset  

A  Picture  of  the  Trinity  

Three  pieces  of  matzah  are  placed  in  a  bag,  representing  the  Father,  Son  and  Holy  Spirit.  The  middle  is  removed,  broken  in  half,  wrapped  in  white  linen  and  hid.  Yeshua,  the  middle  person  of  the  Trinity,  was  broken,  wrapped  in  white  linen  and  buried.    

A  Picture  of  Yeshua  The  matzah  is  unleavened,  signifying  purity.  It  is  burned,  wounded,  pierced,  striped  and  breaks.        “But  he  was  wounded  for  our  transgressions,  he  was  bruised  for  our  iniquities:  the  chastisement  of  our  peace  was  upon  him;  and  with  his  stripes  we  are  healed.”                  –  Isaiah  53:5      “And  I  will  pour  upon  the  house  of  David,  and  upon  the  inhabitants  of  Jerusalem,  the  spirit  of  grace  and  of  supplications:  and  they  shall  look  upon  me  whom  they  have  pierced,  and  they  shall  mourn  for  him,  as  one  mourneth  for  his  only  son,  and  shall  be  in  bitterness  for  him,  as  one  that  is  in  bitterness  for  his  firstborn.”                          –  Zechariah  12:10    

The  Matzah  Blessing    Baruch  Atah  Adonai,  Eloheinu,  Melech  Ha-­‐olam  Hamotzi  Lechem  Min  Ha-­‐aretz.      Blessed  are  You,  Lord  our  God,  King  of  the  Universe  who  brings  forth  bread  from  the  earth.    

The  Bitter  Herb:  Maror  All  take  matzah  and  dip  in  maror  and  eat.    

This  reminds  us  of  the  bitter  bondage  in  Egypt  and  Christians  can  remember  the  bitterness  of  being  lost  in  sin  and  under  bondage  to  it.    

The  Sweet  Mortar:  Charoset  All  take  matzah  and  dip  in  maror  and  charoset.  This  reminds  us  that  God  helped  the  Israelites  make  the  mortar  for  work.  We  see  that  though  sin  was  bitter,  God  turned  it  sweet  as  He  redeemed  us  and  brought  us  out  of  it.    

Note:  It  was  during  this  portion  of  the  seder  that  Judas  was  revelaed  as  the  betrayer  and  went  to  meet  the  Sanhedrin.    

 “And  as  they  did  eat,  he  said,  Verily  I  say  unto  you,  that  one  of  you  shall  betray  me.  And  they  were  exceeding  sorrowful,  and  began  every  one  of  them  to  say  unto  him,  Lord,  is  it  I?  And  he  answered  and  said,  He  that  dippeth  his  hand  with  me  in  the  dish,  the  same  shall  betray  me…Then  Judas,  which  betrayed  him,  answered  and  said,  Master,  is  it  I?  He  said  unto  him,  Thou  hast  said.”         –  Matthew  26:21-­‐25  

“Jesus  answered,  He  it  is,  to  whom  I  shall  give  a  sop,  when  I  have  dipped  it.  And  when  he  had  dipped  the  sop,  he  gave  it  to  Judas  Iscariot,  the  son  of  Simon.”                                          –  John  13:26  

 

 

 

The  Cup  of  Deliverance   Mystery  of  the  Zeroah  Dipping  for  the  10  Plagues  All  dip  their  pinky  into  the  cup  and  drop  juice  on  their  plate  to  resemble  blood  for  each  of  the  10  plagues.  

1.  Blood       6.  Boils  

2.  Lice       7.  Hail  

3.  Flies       8.  Locusts  

4.  Cattle       9.  Darkness  

5.  Disease     10.  Firstborn  

 

The  Cup  Blessing  is  recited  and  all  partake  of  the  cup.  

Orthodox  Jews  then  read  Psalm  113  and  114.  

Dayenu  =  “It  is  enough  for  us”      If  God  had  left  us  in  Egypt…..  

If  God  had  not  judged  the  Egyptians  and  their  gods….  

If  God  had  not  slain  their  firstborn…..  

If  God  had  not  spoiled  them…..  

If  God  had  not  parted  the  sea  for  us…..  

If  God  had  not  let  us  cross  on  dry  ground…..  

If  God  had  not  drowned  the  Egyptians…..  

If  God  had  not  provided  for  us  40  years  in  the  wilderness  

IT  IS  ALL  GRACE.  ADONAI  OWES  US  NOTHING!  

The  Death  of  a  Spotless  Lamb  

The  lamb  was  born  on  Nissan  1.        

A  lamb  was  to  be  taken  into  the  home  on  Nissan  10.    

A  lamb  was  to  be  examined  for  three  days  for  imperfections.  

A  lamb  was  to  be  killed  on  Nissan  14  in  the  evening.    

A  lamb’s  blood  was  to  be  shed  on  the  posts  and  lintel.    

A  lamb  could  not  have  a  bone  broken.  

Yeshua  was  born  on  Nissan  1.  

Yeshua  entered  the  Temple  on  Nissan  10.  

Yeshua  was  examined  by  the  Sanhedrin,  Annas,  Caipahas,  Pilot  and  Herod  and  none  could  find  true  fault  in  him.    

Yeshua  died  on  Nissan  14  in  the  evening.    

Yeshua’s  blood  was  shed  on  the  posts  and  beam.  

Yeshua  was  crucified  without  having  his  legs  broken.    

Isaiah  Revealed  the  Mystery  

700  years  before  Mashiac’s  arrival,  Isaiah  revealed  that  Yeshua  is  the  Zeroah.  He  is  the  one  God  chose  to  redeem  humanity  and  conquer  sin,  death  and  hell.    

 “Who  hath  believed  our  report?  And  to  whom  is  the  arm  of  the  Lord  revealed?”  –  Isaiah  53:1  

 “Who  hath  believed  our  report?  And  to  whom  is  the  Zeroah  revealed?  –  Isaiah  53:1  

 

 

The  Cup  of  Redemption  The  Return  of  the  Affikommen:  His  Body

The  Affikommen  is  returned  to  the  table,  unwrapped,  broken  and  distributed  for  all  to  eat.  This  practice  had  been  place  hundreds  of  years  before  Yeshua.    

“And   as   they  were   eating,   Jesus   took   bread,   and   brake   it   and  blessed  it  and  gave  it  to  the  disciples,  and  said,  Take  eat;  this  is  my  body.”                                    -­‐  Matthew  26:26  

Baruch  Atah  Adonai,  Eloheinu,  Melech  Ha-­‐olam  Hamotzi  Lechem  Min  Ha-­‐aretz.  

Blessed  are  You,  Lord  our  God,  King  of  the  Universe  who  brings  forth  bread  from  the  earth.    (Resurrection!)    

Yeshua  said  he  was  the  lechem  chaiyim  (Bread  of  Life).    

He  was  born  in  Bet  Lechem  –  “The  House  of  Bread”.  

His  body  was  broken  for  us  in  a  personal  manner.    

 The  Cup:  His  Blood  Baruch  Attah  Adonai,  Eloheinu  Melech  Ha-­‐olam  Boreh    Pree  Ha-­‐ga-­‐fen.    Blessed  are  You,  Lord  our  God,  King  of  the  Universe,  who  creates  the  fruit  of  the  vine.    “And   he   took   the   cup,   and   gave   thanks,   and   gave   it   to   them,  saying,   Drink   ye   all   of   it;   For   this   is   my   blood   of   the   new  testament,  which  is  shed  for  many  for  the  remission  of  sins.  But  I   say   unto   you,   I   will   not   drink   henceforth   of   this   fruit   of   the  vine,  until  that  day  when  I  drink  it  new  with  you  in  my  Father's  kingdom.”                      –  Matthew  26:27-­‐29

The  Jewish  Marriage  Pictured  The  Proposal  involved  money,  a  contract  and  a  cup.    “For  ye  are  bought  with  a  price:  therefore  glorify  God  in  your  body,  and  in  your  spirit,  which  are  God's.”  –  I  Corinthians  6:20    The  Gospel  is  our  Contract:  Read  it.  Accept  the  terms.    The  Cup  is  offered  each  of  us;  All  partake  of  the  cup.      The  groom  then  left  to  prepare  a  chuppah  =  bridal  chamber.    “In  my  Father's  house  are  many  chuppahs:  if  it  were  not  so,  I  would  have  told  you.  I  go  to  prepare  a  place  for  you.”-­‐  John  14:2    Only  the  father  could  determine  when  it  was  finished  and  the  groom  could  go  for  his  bride.      “But  of  that  day  and  that  hour  knoweth  no  man,  no  not  the  angels  in  heaven,  neither  the  Son,  but  the  Father.”  –  Mark  13:32    The  bride  was  veiled  in  separation;  her  token  of  faith.    The  grooms  came  at  night,  with  a  shout  and  shofar  sounding.    “For  the  Lord  himself  shall  descend  from  heaven  with  a  shout,  with  the  voice  of  the  archangel,  and  with  the  [shofar]  of  God.”                      

-­‐  I  Thessalonians  4:16    The  bride  would  return  to  the  marriage  supper  and  be  hid  from  the  world  for  one  week  and  then  revealed  for  all  to  see.    During  the  Tribulation  (one  prophetic)  week,  the  church  is  hid  while  she  drinks  the  cup  with  Christ  and  then  revealed  with  Yeshua’s  Second  Coming,            

 PASSOVER  IS  ETERNAL!    

 

 

The  Cup  of  Praise  The  Cup  of  Eliyahu    An  empty  place  has  been  set  through  the  meal  with  a  cup.    

The  Jewish  people  expect  the  return  of  the  prophet  Elijah.  

Note:  Malachi  –  “messenger  of  life”  

“  Behold,  I  will  send  you  Elijah  the  prophet  before  the  coming  of  the  great  and  dreadful  day  of  the  Lord:  And  he  shall  turn  the  heart  of  the  fathers  to  the  children,  and  the  heart  of  the  children  to  their  fathers,  lest  I  come  and  smite  the  earth  with  a  curse.”                                            –  Malachi  4:5-­‐6  

Yeshua  said  Yochannan  the  Baptist  came  in  Elijah’s  spirit  but  that  Elijah  would  come  again  and  ignite  revival  in  Israel.  

Elijah  is  one  of  the  witnesses  in  the  Time  of  Yakov’s  Trouble

The  youngest  attendee  opens  the  door  welcoming  Elijah  should  he  come  that  night  and  welcomes  the  coming  Kingdom  of  Mashiach.  

All  recite:    

Eliyahu  Hanavi,  Eliyahu  Hatishbi,  Eliyahu  Hagiladi;  Bimheirah  Yavo  Eileinu  Im  Mashiach  Ben  David.    

Elijah  the  Prophet,  Elijah  the  Tishbite,  Elijah  the  Gileadite;  may  he  come  speedily  to  us  in  our  days  along  with  Messiah  the  son  of  David.    

 

The  Cup  Blessing  is  repeated.  

All  partake  in  faith  of  Mashiach’s  coming  to  establish  His  Kingdom.  

The  Hallel  –  The  Final  Praise  Psalm  118  was  the  hymn  Yeshua  and  the  disciples  sang.      All  Recite:  Psalm  118    It  is  a  prophetic  praise  Psalm  describing  the  coming  events  in  Yeshua’s  Gethsemane  prayers,  betrayal,  arrest,  trials,  scourging,  crucifixion,  death,  burial  and  resurrection.        All  Recite    Lishana  Ha-­‐baah  Bi-­‐Yerushalyim              NEXT  YEAR  IN  JERUSALEM!    As  the  Jewish  people  hope  for  Mashiach’s  return  and  their  time  in  the  Kingdom,  we  look  for  His  return  and  the  possibility  that  next  year  we  may  celebrate  Pesach  in  the  New  Jerusalem!      AMEN  AND  AMEN.  HALLELUJAH!        Orthodox  Jews  then  continue  praising  God  and  recounting  the  mighty  deliverance  of  the  Exodus  “until  sleep  overtakes  them.”

Mashiach      =  “Christ,  anointed,  the  Messiah”  

Pesach                =  “Passover  /  the  Passover  lamb”  

Tallit                      =  “little  tabernacle”  /  prayer  shawl  

Shofar                  =  “ram’s  horn  /  trumpet”  

Seder                      =  “ritual  meal”  

Haggadah  =  “guide  book”  

Affikommen  =  “he  who  has  come”  /  the  middle  matzah  

Ishtar                  =  the  Babylonian  goddess  of  fertility.  During  the  Babylonian  Captivity  is  when  the  egg  crept  onto  the  seder  plate.  It  is  from  this  goddess  we  get  the  word  “Easter”  and  from  which  the  tradition  of  hiding  eggs  comes.    Hallel                =  “praise”  /  it  is  from  this  word  we  get  the  internationally  understood  Hebrew  word  “Hallelujah”  which  means  “Praise  the  LORD!”
