One for the booksWhat a night! On September 30, we went public with the Capital Campaign for our new

community Arts Education Center. Campaign co-chair and hotel manager Phillip Murray pulledout all the stops and donated a fabulous reception at the Gettysburg Hotel for 200 enthusiasticArts Council supporters who enjoyed food, drink, music, and speakers who reminded us what

the arts are all about.

Motivational speakerSteven B. Wiley warmedup the room for his father-in-law, Dr. Charles Glassick, former president of theWoodruff Arts Center andPresident Emeritus ofGettysburg College. Dr.Glassick inspired us withhis reflections on a lifelongpassion for the arts. Sena-tor Richard Alloway charac-terized the Arts EducationCenter as an anchor facilitythat will help revitalizeGettysburg’s Elm StreetDistrict and provide afterschool arts programs forat-risk students. AdamsElectric Cooperative’sDuane Kanagy talked

Robert C. Hoffman Chari-table Endowment Trust, and the Adams CountyCommissioners for majorgifts and to the generousdonors who have helpedus reach this milestone.

I also announced thatthe Hoffman Trust hadissued a challenge, a$25,000 “dollar-for-dollar” match when weraised that amount in newdonations. I can’t fullyexpress my gratitude forwhat happened next:People lined up to makegifts and pledges totalingmore than $32,000!

We celebrated aremarkable achievement

about his company’s longassociation with the ArtsCouncil and how the artsare good for business.Steve Niebler, director ofthe Adams County Officefor Aging, explained howthe center will serve seniorcitizens. Phil Murray andArts Council presidentHolly Purdy unveiled ourprogress “thermometer”showing that we’ve raised$621,111 toward our $1.1million goal.

We’re so grateful to theCommonwealth of Penn-sylvania, Senator Alloway, the Margaret Trew ClineFoundation, the Thomas L.Cline Foundation, the

that night. But we have along way to go to reach$1.1 million. We’ll needthe help of every ArtsCouncil member to reachour goal. Recently youreceived a mailer asking foryour support. Please respondwith a gift that’s meaning-ful to you. Without doubt, your gift will mean evenmore to the children andadults that we will serve inour new Arts EducationCenter.

Thank you for yourmembership in the AdamsCounty Arts Council.

New web site plannedThe Arts Council is seeking Requests for Proposal (RFP) from graphic designers and/or web

developers for the redesign of our organization website.

Our current site, www.adamsarts.org, was designed in 1998 by high school students as a part of their communityservice graduation requirement. The site’s simplistic design was functional at the time, but advances in technologyand social marketing, combined with our organization’s growth, have rendered the site obsolete. With our recently

announced $1.1 million Capital Campaign to establish the AdamsCounty Community Arts Education Center, the new website must

do more to help us fulfill our mission and reflect the positionwe’ve attained over the past 17 years as a leading advocate

for the arts in this region. If you’d like to receive the RFP packet, contact Dan

Zalewski, Development Director, [email protected]. If you plan to submit aRFP, please send us a nonbinding letter of intent sothat we know you are submitting a proposal. Mailyour letter to the Adams County Arts Council, 18Carlisle Street, Suite 201, Gettysburg PA 17325. Youmay also fax your letter to (717) 338-2041 or email itto [email protected].
