Yes We Can Leadership & Management for Social Change A new leadership and management development programme for leaders and managers of projects, organisations and initiatives delivering social change across the North East region Who is this for? Leaders and managers of small and medium scale not-for-profit organisations working across the North East region and individuals working independently for social change. The programme is particularly relevant to individuals without a formal leadership and management qualification who are looking for a practical and comprehensive introduction to key leadership and management theories, models, frameworks, tools, techniques and approaches. How is the programme structured? 8 whole days training, one day per month starting October 2016, delivered across the North East region. Three core themes: Managing self – personal planning, motivation, knowing yourself, useful tools and techniques (assertiveness, resilience, time management, presentation skills), exploring definitions, theories, models and styles of leadership and management. Leading and managing others – recruitment and selection, performance management, training and development, teams, interpersonal skills, governance. Working together – strategic and financial planning, project management, change management, stakeholder management, useful tools and techniques (problem solving, decision making, influencing and persuading, negotiation). Part of Day 1 one will involve refining the programme content to meet the needs and interests of the group. Part of Day 8 will involve planning next steps for delegates. Workshops will combine different learning tools and processes including workbooks, case studies, guest speakers, assessment tools and other diagnostics, access to models and theories, audio visual material and reading lists. There will be opportunity to progress thinking and learning between workshops. Delegates will also provide a learning resource for each other with opportunities for networking, discussion and practice together. Whilst the programme is unaccredited, learning acquired can count towards an ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) qualification for those looking to progress onto an accredited programme. Who is this for?

Leaders and managers of small and medium scale not-for-profit organisations working across the North East region and individuals working independently forsocial change. How is the programme structured?

• 8 whole days training, one day per month starting October2016, delivered across the North East region.

Who’s leading the programme?

Robert Laycock is an independent practitioner supporting the organisationaland leadership development of not-for-profit organisations across the NorthEast region. He works with leaders, their staff teams, boards and other keystakeholders, to strengthen business planning processes; develop robustfinancial plans, funding models and fundraising strategy; develop leadershipand management capability; support organisational development and change;and strengthen governance. He is a founder of North East Together: LeadersNetwork for Social Change hosted and funded by Newcastle UniversityBusiness School where he is a Visiting Fellow. He is also Chair of North TynesideArt Studio, providing art studio space for adults with severe and enduring

mental health problems; board member of Beacon Hill Arts, the UK’s only BFI film academy for people withlearning disabilities, autism and additional needs; Chair of the Panama Swimming Club, sea swimming clubin Whitley Bay established in 1930; and former Chief Executive of regional arts based charity Helix Arts.

Peter Lumley is a Coach, Trainer and HR Consultant specialising in ChangeManagement with extensive experience of designing and deliveringLeadership, Management and Staff Development programmes in the UK andoverseas. Since 2003 he has led the development and delivery of the NextGeneration Leadership and Management Development programme acrossYorkshire and Humberside for the cultural heritage sector. Peter has alsoworked extensively with Local Authorities, SMEs, National Parks and voluntaryand community sector organisations. Over the last five years his work hasstretched beyond the UK to Europe, the Middle East, the Far East and SouthAmerica. Peter is particularly passionate about coaching and is founder and

Chair of Coaching York promoting coaching both within the workplace and in communities. He has a MastersDegree in Business Administration; is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development(where he was previously Chair of the North Yorkshire branch); and holds a Certificate in PerformanceDevelopment Coaching, accredited by Association for Coaching.
