Yenepoya Medical College Department of Anaesthesiology 1. 1. INTRODUCTION:

Department of Anaesthesiology was started in the year 1999 with four faculty members and

currently the department has grown under the leadership of Dr. Sampathila Padmanabha, as

Professor and H.O.D with 22 staff members and 9 postgraduates intake per year. The department

collectively manages the patient care in the operation theatre, intensive care unit, Emergency

medicine department As well as the Pain and Palliative Medicine department. Both faculty and

postgraduates are involved in teaching programmes, research and extension activities which are

helpful to the society.

2. OBJECTIVES

a. To offer excellent teaching programme to postgraduate students of Anaesthesiology.

b. To provide quality patient care both during surgery and outside the operation theatre

c. To provide continuing medical education for anaesthesia students and faculties.

d. To provide research methodology, knowledge to postgraduate students.

e. To provide CPR training to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

f. To teach CPR to school children and paramedical staff.

Department of Anaesthesiology, Yenepoya University and ISA city Branch Mangalore jointly conducted

and Anaesthesia” and the venue was Indoor Auditorium, Academic Block, Yenepoya Medical College,

Deralakatte Campus. The CME was inaugurated by Dr. S.S. Harsoor, Professor of Anaesthesiology,

Bangalore Medical College and Editor of Indian Journal of Anaesthesiology. In his inaugural address

Professor S.S. Harsoor highlighted the need for fast track Surgery to reduce the cost of treatment, reduce
