I hope this edition of the Yellowjacket “Buzz” finds each of you doing well as we enter 2016. I know I enjoyed

the holidays with family and friends, but it is always exciting to see the students return after the break and to see

and hear about all of the excitement from Christmas.

As we enter a new year I am pleased to announce that enrollment at Laneville is up nearly 20 students from the

prior year. Also, our recent financial audit indicated that the district has built on the previous year’s fund

balance and remains on a sound financial footing.

Our students will be taking their middle of the year assessments this month. These midyear assessments are

extremely important to both the students and staff. The staff will use the data from these assessments to refine

and target instruction to students.

Our basketball team has entered district play and the Yellowjackets will begin making their push for the

playoffs. I would like to encourage everyone to come out and support our team. Homecoming this year is

scheduled for January 29th against Chireno. It should be an entertaining matchup and the homecoming

festivities will follow.

As always, let me say what a privilege it is to serve as superintendent of Laneville Independent School District.

Thank you.

Respectfully,

Brian Nichols

Laneville ISD administered the MOY (Middle of the Year) assessment during the week of January

11-14. Teachers will be reviewing the student data in order to plan instruction for the 2nd

semester. Please continue to have your students utilize the Reading Plus program at home in order

to increase your student's comprehension and fluency levels. State testing will take place

beginning March 29 for grade 4 & 7 writing, grade 5 & 8 math, and English I for grade 9. On

March 30, grades 5 & 8 will test in reading and on March 31, the 10th graders will test on

English II. By working together we can ensure success for your child.

Audie McKinney Audie McKinney is in the first grade and

his parents are Matthew and Janet

McKinney. He has three brothers;

Phillip, Nathan, and Luke and one sister,

Leah. His favorite subjects are math and

social studies. He is very good in math

and loves social studies. Audie is most

proud of helping his friends and family.

When not in school, he enjoys

swimming, camping, basketball, soccer,

and spending time with his family.

Audie plans to become a paramedic

when he grows up.

LaTara Waggoner is the daughter of Mrs. Evelyn

Johnson Waggoner and the late DC Waggoner.

She has one brother, Derick, one sister, Rhonda

and many nieces and nephews. She is a lifelong

resident of Laneville and has been teaching/

coaching at Laneville ISD for eight years. Miss

Waggoner worked for two years as an Office

Assistant before earning her Associates in Health

and Kinesiology from Tyler Junior College, a

Bachelors of Social Science with a concentration in

Education from Ashford University, and a Masters

of Education with a specialization in Curriculum

and Instruction also from Ashford University. She

is currently the Language Arts teacher for the 4th,

5th, and 6th grades. Miss Waggoner didn’t decide

to become a teacher she said she was destined to

educate. As a teacher she has found incredible joy

in seeing the difference she makes as students gain

new insights, becoming more interested in subjects

and learning about themselves. When not in the

classroom, Miss Waggoner enjoys traveling,

cooking, sporting events, and spending time with

family and friends.
