Decrease the Odds of Being a Target by Joining Suncoast HR on February 14th Workplace violence is a priority for all security professionals, but how about Human Resources? The most frightening and compelling element is an active shooter. Current events across the country dramatically illustrate that no one is immune to this tragic possibility.
GSL Enterprises’ program presents the necessary components of preparation strategies that include planning, prevention, mitigation, and response to active shooters. Your company must embrace the importance of preparing for and rehearsing what is known as a "survival mindset." Best practices, proactive approaches to dealing with an ever-changing threat environment, as well as rapid responses will be discussed throughout the program.

President's Note
Simply “Wow”!
I had high expectations for the start of 2018 for our SuncoastHR Chapter and we may have actually exceeded what I had hoped.
Before our monthly chapter meeting, HRFlorida held the 2018 Leadership Summit in Orlando on Saturday, January 6th, the first weekend back from a long holiday break. The President Elect, Rich Williams, and I were that the only required attendees, and the summit was voluntary for all other board and committee members. Fifteen members of your board participated and based on my observation, was the highest number of attending board members of all the HR chapters in Florida. This illustrates the level of commitment by the SuncoastHR Board.
Our first chapter meeting of the year was held on the 10th. The Membership Team and Webmaster did some scrambling to include a number of late registrations, but we figured how to include everyone who wanted to attend. The result? Standing room only with extra chairs around every table! Awesome!
I hope you enjoyed the presentation by Tampa International Airport as much as I did, especially the high HR and employee engagement that is occurring at “our” airport! I appreciated the comment about all their employees being ambassadors of the airport and willing to help passengers any way they can. How often has that happened to you at other airports?
We are rocketing forward with new chapter members and positive interest in the few remaining committee positions on the Board. The Sponsorship Team has been hard at work and are close to filling all remaining opportunities in 2018. The Professional Development Team is locking down specifics for upcoming meetings. I could go on, but quite simply, we are well on our way to a great year.
February’s meeting is a sensitive but incredibly important topic, “Active Shooter Response”. We encourage you to bring someone who will benefit from learning about this important topic. The last date to RSVP is Friday, 2/9. We look forward to seeing you on February 14th!
To make it an even more special day, our Past President, Tom Topping, received the statewide President’s award for his work with our chapter last year. We are proud of the direction in which this Chapter is moving!
