I always believe that our students deserve the best. At Choithram International, we

pursue this objective relentlessly day in and day out. To a great extent we have

maintained consistency in making things happen the way it would serve best for

our students. As we approach the fag end of this academic session, it gives me

great pleasure that CI is rolling out its annual e-newsletter. This year’s edition has

tried to capture the mood of all major events at CI in its grandeur. The newsletter

boasts of a refreshing new look in terms of design and content. There is an

awesome range of articles and stirring photographs to add impact.

In the words of George Bernard Shaw “Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is

about creating yourself.” Hence in our school we try to help our students discover

themselves. Many of our students are involved in Athletics or other co-curricular

activities that enrich their experiences at CI. Be it CAS related activities, Sports day

celebrations, winning laurels in science Olympiads, outdoor adventure trips,

honoring the elderly on grandparents day, expressions on art ,field trips our

students have reaped benefits. There is hardly a moment in which the campus in

not alive with activity!

Many thanks to the editorial team for all of their hard work in preparing this e-

newsletter.

Summer break has started. In the midst of our busy lives, let us be sure to take time

to look back with satisfaction and say thanks for our many blessings and prepare

to celebrate the times ahead.

FROM THE EDITOR Dear Readers, Very few have realized the wealth of understanding, kindness and generosity hidden in the soul of a child. The effort of every educator should be to unlock that treasure and Choithram International, an IB World School is an excellent example where everyone strives indefatigably for this. Endeavour, calibre and dedication are the most important key factors behind a successful work. We feel proud to declare that with the support and dedicated efforts of our students and worthy staff members we are able to issue the third edition of out spotlight on PYP. We hope our readers will find this issue very informative and entertaining. Happy Reading!!

Investiture Ceremony

Student council is the backbone of an institution. It’s a dynamic governing body managed solely by students with a little guidance from the teachers. Especially at an IB school where kids are encouraged to take responsibility of their own learning, the onus of managing all the school events and activities lies on the young shoulders of Student Council members.

On 4th September, 2014, Choithram International had its Student Council Investiture Ceremony. Newly elected council members marched to the atrium as their teachers and their counterparts applauded. The Head of School, Mr. Dilip Vasu, handed each one of them their badge and congratulated them personally. This was followed by the Oath ceremony. Mr. Dilip Vasu in his address congratulated all the members and pressed on the importance of good leadership in today’s world. The ceremony ended with short gushing speeches by the school Head Boy and Head Girl Anirudh Sharma of DP2 and Mithali Rajagopalan of A-Levels where they thanked the students and promised to honor their positions with complete sincerity.

PYP Student Council Elections

"Representative democracy has been the essence of CI and authenticated by the PYP elections." The purpose was to provide young Learners with an opportunity to experience the democratic process first hand and practice the habits of informed and alert person.The aims of PYP elections is to achieve the following objectives among students:· Increase knowledge about the electoral process · Foster a sense of responsibility . Encourage dialogue with teachers, friends and family · Heighten interest about different school activities· Practice critical thinking & decision making skills .1st August 2014, new month arrived with new mission for all the PYP students- ‘To be a part of the School Student Council Election.’ The candidates were for different posts- Head Boy, Head Girl, Captains and Vice-Captains of four Houses-Lincoln, Mandela, Tagore and Gandhi.There were also nominations for Prefect body, Discipline Incharge and Sports Captain.The students were enthusiastic and eager to vote for their right person. The school followed the Ballot process, where in voters gave their precious vote in secret. Each student was given a ballot paper at dif ferent booths with the names of the candidates. The students were to tick-mark the name of one and cast that into ballot-box.  The whole process went smoothly and all the PYP students showed a high sense of discipline.They all reflected on the saying- “Voting is one of the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” 

MYP Student Council Elections "Your vote not only helps pick the candidate but also the policy." Student council is an integral part of school. They help teachers in organizing events and maintaining discipline in the school. CI - MYP had its student council elections on July 31, 2014. Students were informed about the student council elections on July, 28 2014 and were asked to give their nominations by 30th. The opportunity excited students and campaigning began instantly. Students went to different classes and promoted themselves. July 30th was the official day of campaigning. Every candidate had to deliver a speech in the assembly.Excitement was palpable on the day of voting, July 31st. Every student was more than eager to exercise his/her right to vote. The elections went by peacefully and left the students waiting for the day of final result. On Tuesday, 5th of August, the results were declared. All posts, except for Cultural and literary prefect, were allotted to students on the basis of the results. The post of MYP Head Girl went to Trishi Harkawat and the post of MYP Head Boy was bagged by Sahil Jain, both from MYP 4 A. Anirudh Sharma of DP 2 was chosen to be the Senior Head Boy and Mithali Rajagopalan of A Level, the Senior Head Girl. The school Principal Mr. Dilip Vasu congratulated all the newly elected members and wished them Good Luck.

CI prepares its students for the rigours of going out into in the world right from the formative years. Well-planned class activities and a comprehensive FA+SA system keep the students on their toes throughout their life at CI. Here are some of the feathers in our academic cap!

Achievements do not come in a jiffy or as often said by the laureates, Rome is not made in a day. There are more ingredients added than it meets the eyes, when it comes to concocting a beautiful creation of intellectual enhancement. This is a proud moment for the Choithram Group to announce the towering achievement of one of our many stars who shimmer the nights away by becoming a world topper.

The school has raised its own benchmark with the achievements that shine the brightest with IGCSE June 2014 results which portrayed Sreevidya Ayyar as the one who topped the school with 100 percent A*s (8 A*s). Furthermore she is acknowledged by Cambridge International Examinations, UK, as the world topper in two subjects (Environmental Management and Mathematics), wherein she is nominated to receive the Outstanding Learner Award by virtue of her overpowering achievements.

Cambridge International Examinations is the world’s largest provider of international education programmes and qualifications for 5 to 19 year olds and operates in 156 countries.CIE has extended an invitation to the the school to receive a commendation from Michael O’Sullivan, CEO, Cambridge International Examinations and Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge at the Celebration of Achievement event to be held at Mumbai. Choithram International management conveys and acknowledges the dexterity of all the facilitators who have walked this extra mile to guide the achiever with this global applause.

Philately is a value stored, treasured and accepted globally as an unique memorabilia for collectors. First time in the history of Indian Philately a Special Cover is being released for Choithram International , This is unique for an institution which is barely 11 years old. At a broader perspective the special cover is being introduced as an acknowledgement for the role of Thakurdas Choithram Pagrani and his philanthropic endeavour for Indian and Global society. His endowment has given wings to Aashayein and will be forever etched in History on 9th Of January 2015.     Epic Contribution to Philately. As all collectors are keen on collecting something rare or once in a lifetime . Choithram International in collaboration with Indian Post is giving an extraordinary opportunity to collect a Special Cover with a My Stamp of Thakurdas Choithram Pagrani  on it . This is a first time in the History of Indian Philately  and will be collectors pride.

Kartavya Sharma of MYP 2 A won the city level Dell Champs quiz contest. Kartavya Sharma was accompanied by his father Mr. Sanjay Sharma. Next, he will represent Choithram International at the national level. The quiz contest was for the students of grade 5th, 6th and 7th who were winners from different schools. Each participating team consisted of one student and one parent (any family member above 18 years age). CI's participant Kartavya Sharma of MYP 2 made the school proud by winning the city round. Dell rewarded this accomplishment by gifting an ALL-IN-ONE Dell PC to the school. Kudos to Kartavya for this win!

The 16th of January 2015 was a special day for the French Language students of MYP 3 and 4. It gave them an opportunity to come closer to France as well as French culture and civilisation. They received this motivating opportunity jointly, from ALTUS Institute of Universal Studies, Indore and Alliance Française. It was a competition consisting of interesting events such as movie comprehension, group recitation of an English song and its French version, a quiz, collage-making on French culture, ad-mad show, poster-making, speech, short-story writing, and describe yourself as individual items. There were eleven enthusiastic and hard working participants from our school accompanied by Two French teachers. All the students gave a brilliant performance and we are proud to announce that one of the participants, Mademoiselle Yashi Kothari from MYP 4 bagged the first prize for the individual item ‘Describe Yourself’!!! We extend our gratitude to Madame France Guillaud, our parent and visiting Faculty for IBDP and MYP French for giving her valuable time in order to prepare our participants for the competition!

The Achievers .. Keeping the CI flag high…..

The Science Olympiad Foundation, (SOF) is an educational foundation and a non-profit organisation, which promotes Science, Introductory Computer Education, Mathematics and English. Every year, it organizes four Olympiads namely the National Cyber Olympiad (NCO), the National Science Olympiad (NSO), the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) and the International English Olympiad (IEO).

All the four exams are conducted in two levels. They are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) type and the students are required to supply their responses on OMR answer sheets. On the basis of the 1st level exam, "Gold, Sliver & Bronze" medals are awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd rank holder (with minimum 10 enrollments in the class concerned) and Gold medal to every class topper (if 5-9 students have enrolled) in each participating school. Selected students appear for a 2nd level examination and according to these 2nd level ranks, the prizes are given. The criteria for selection to the 2nd level are as follows: the student should have secured International Rank from 1 - 500 (both inclusive) and/or State Rank from 1 - 10 (both inclusive) and/or School Rank 1 (where minimum 10 students have appeared).

Students participating in SOF (1st level) get a Student Performance Report (SPR), giving their Score, School Rank, City Rank, State Rank, International Rank and Percentile, as well as a Certificate of Participation.

The NCO (National Cyber Olympiad) is a global search competitions that aims at identifying and nurturing cyber talent amongst the youngsters. Including (Mental Ability), (Logical and Analytical Reasoning) and (Computers and IT).

The NSO (National Science Olympiad)[4] is a science competition in Asia that aims at identifying and nurturing Science talent amongst the youngsters.

The IMO(International Mathematics Olympiad) is a means to identify and encourage the mathematical creativity of children like Logical Reasoning,  Mathematical Reasoning and Everyday Mathematics.

The IEO (International English Olympiad) is a means to identify and encourage the English language creativity of children like Word and Structure Knowledge, Reading and Spoken and Written Expression.

For the first time IIMUN brought its official to the city of Indore in the event hosted by CI, and we promise giving them an event to remember.With eminent guests of honour, the IIMUN Chairman and Vice-Chairman of IIMUN, and a rocking musical performance by Leslie Lewis, the opening ceremony left the 3000 attendees wanting more. The next two days, the delegates were engrossed in sessions.

Dances, Speeches, Fun! – This is the perfect way anyone can start describing the evening of November 21st, 2014 which marked the beginning of the first Indore chapter of the Indian International Model United Nations. The Opening ceremony was organized at the Brilliant Convention Centre which is known to be one of the finest auditoriums in the culturally diverse city, Indore. It began with a speech by the former ambassador representing India at the United Nations and progressed with a mesmerizing dance performance by a famous dance troupe of the city. An inspirational speech was given by the army- man-turned-educationalist, who is currently the head of Pearl Academy. As the ceremony progressed, an Indian c lass ica l dance performance put up by Ms. Ragini Makkar and

group, which gracefully won all hearts in the audience.

What can be better than a speech by a management-guru? He definitely sent across very inspiring words to each one part of the ceremony. Also, the founder of the Indian International Model United Nations, Mr. Rishabh Shah explained the plausible reasons behind the history of the making of the IIMUN. A ‘mini-concert’ if I must say also was seen by none other than, Mr. Lesle Lewis, who is one of the most recognized and talented singer and music composer in Bollywood. That was indeed the best way to bring an end to the opening ceremony of the Indore Chapter of IIMUN. So, all said and done, as we all say “All’s well that ends well”.

Next, Mr. Dilip Vasu gave the Principal’s Report to the attendees, which was followed by the Prize-Giving Ceremony. The senior girls’ dance performance on Power of Women was next, which left the audience spell-bound. This was followed by a thought-provoking skit and a mime act on Hope and Expectations by the MYP students. At this juncture, a heavy downpour forced the evening’s proceedings to come to a halt for a few minutes, but the CI spirit was not dampened. The last performance of the evening was left, and neither a wet stage nor technical issues with the sound system could come in the way an electrifying Bhangra performance by the DP & A-Level students. The performance gave a new lease of life to the audience and the performers received a standing ovation and resounding applause for their spirit. The evening came to a close with the Vote of Thanks and the National Anthem.

The 11th Annual Day of Choithram International was an unforgettable one. The evening began with Saraswati Vandana – a beautiful classical dance by the senior school girls. Thereafter, the PYP students presented a vibrant Ganesha Invocation. The evening became livelier with the tiny tots presenting a lovely dance performance on Hope. This was followed by another wonderful PYP dance performance on Poverty.

French Fiesta Kicks Off !!

On July 14, 2014, the first event in the week-long French Fiesta began with the assembly presented by the DP 2 French students of the school and led by the senior French faculty. Mohit Himthani gave the Welcome Speech which was followed by a melodious French song ‘Les nuages’(The Clouds) presented by Juzer, Tanisha,    the Italian intern Danino and our French faculty. The next event was a speech on the Bastille Day, which was quite informative. This was followed by a quiz on the French culture and civilization, successfully conducted by Anirudh, Chirag and Tanisha.  The student audience responded very enthusiastically to the quiz. The next item was a spontaneous one. The two French students Alice and Gabin, from the PYP section of CI spontaneously came forward and recited the first stanza of the French national anthem ‘La Marseillaise’. This attempt was wholeheartedly applauded by the school. This event was followed by the recitation of two French poems: the first ‘Demain, Dèsl’aube’ by Siddharth Chopra and the second ‘Prière par un petit enfant nègre’ (‘Prayer by a small negro child’) by Anirudh Sharma. This touching poem had an expression of feelings of a little boy about freedom and the child exploitation. This was followed by the enactment of two extracts from the French plays: ‘L’Avare’ (The Miser) by Molière and ‘Cyrano de Bergerac’ by Edmond Rostand. Anirudh recited the monologue of Harpagon and Siddharth enacted Cyrano. Both the enactments were quite effective and lively. This was the concluding event of the first day of the French Fiesta. Finally, the vote of thanks was presented by Mohit. The second day of the French Fiesta was marked by a French Film Festival. 

Three separate film shows of a half an hour duration each were presented during fourth, fifth and sixth lessons for PYP, DP and MYP, respectively. The PYP film show comprised of informative, entertaining and musical videos on French expressions, vocabulary and language. This film was a great success. The PYP children were spontaneously singing along with the French songs played in the video. The DP film show comprised of five videos on different topics ranging from Paris tour to racism to What-not-to-do-in-France. The MYP film show consisted of five short stories with some message, narrated and subtitled in French. Thus, the second day of the French Fiesta was concluded.

French Fiesta Kicks Off !!

The third day of the French Fiesta was packed with interesting events like fashion show, food festival and the exhibition of the French culture. All these events took place in the atrium. Trishi and Simran of grade 9 gave the opening speech. The first and the most exciting event of the fashion show started at 1:40pm with the elegant catwalks of the MYP girls on the ramp with a vibrant background music! This event gave the audience a feel of b e i n g a t ‘ L e s C h a m p s Elysées’ (The world famous fashion street of Paris) and thus did full justice to the aspect of the ‘mode’ (fashion) of the French culture! All the MYP participants of the show appeared quite ‘chic’ throughout the show!As soon as this event was over the atrium was taken over by the French food festival! Some typically French dishes like crêpes, chocolate cakes, and sandwiches prepared by the MYP and PYP students and parents appeared at various counters, ready for sale! All these items got a wholesome response from the young food lovers! As the left side of the atrium was filled with various food counters the right side was occupied by some interesting displays of the French culture in the form of charts and the models of some prominent monuments of Paris.

The parent’s contribution in preparing the food items was invaluable! This successful event was the outcome of the immense

amount of effort, hard work, organization and co-ordination of the members of the French Faculty and the Events Committee and the parents. This event concluded with the vote of thanks presented by Trishi and Simran of grade 9. The fourth day of the French Fiesta started with the news reading in French followed by its translation in English, presented by Priya and Trishi of the grade 10 and 9 respectively. This was followed by a meaningful French play based on the theme of tree plantation and environment. The play was presented by the students of the Grade 8 and 9. The later event was a series of a variety of melodious French songs presented by the PYP, and the MYP students. The audience spontaneously joined in singing some of these songs. At the end, the interns presented a wonderful short mimetic drama on the French Revolution of 1789. It started with the scene of tyranny and despotism of the monarchy followed by the public taking over and over throwing the monarchy. It ended with a brief presentat ion of the French n a t i o n a l a n t h e m ‘ L a Marseillaise’. This short cultural show presented by the interns was very rich in meaning.The assembly concluded with the singing of the Indian National Anthem.

The fifth day of the French Fiesta was the repetition of the previous day presentation exclusively for the audience of the youngest and the sweetest members of CI - PYP!On the sixth and the concluding day of the celebration the of French Fiesta festival,a special morning assembly was presented by the students of IBDP 2. 

However, there was a big difference. Yes! The participants of the fashion show of today were some of our cute little PYP learners. Their catwalks and looks were extremely sweet and lovely! This time the spectators had a feel of being at the ‘mini’ ‘Champs Élysées’! The rest of the events including the last event by the interns were as interestingly performed again as the previous day. The special assembly was concluded by singing of the Indian National anthem. All the events of the programme were well applauded and well appreciated by the PYP children!

It is not the years in your life that counts; it’s the life in your years..!! 13th April 2015 the day this will be treasured by the Choithram International School community and will be remembered for the years to come. The PYP exhibition signifies its importance by the ways through which the PYP 5 students share their entire learning by exhibiting it in front of the whole school community. The exhibition blends IB Attributes, five Essential Elements of PYP under one of the Unit of Inquiries and the content, i.e. the Central Idea and the lines of inquiries created by the students. At the initial stage, the journey looked tough for the spectators, but the students proved the saying, even Impossible says, I’M Possible. Students are required to engage in a collaborative, Transdisciplinary inquiry process that involves them in identifying, investigating and offering solutions to real - life issues or problems. At such a young age, the process of exhibition helps students become independent and responsible towards their community, towards the Planet Earth. The entire journey is the reflection of their enhanced and polished skills and the overall transformed and well developed personality of this Artistic and creative Learners…!! This year, PYP 5 students exhibited their journey under the Theme - How the World works and their Big Idea was - Natural World. Students were divided into four groups having four different central ideas. The ultimate reflection was through Dance, Drama, Mime and Song respectively by different groups.Each person witnessed the grandness of the show which was a visual treat for the PYP 5 students. The graduation ceremony was the cherry on the cake. The Parents were elated to see their ward in the graduation gown and taking the oath with the Principal of the school. Over all, it is said that All’s Well that Ends Well..!!

D P G R A D U A T I O N

CI held its Graduation Ceremony for the IBP and CIE batches of 2015 on 29th April.

The event began with the teachers and students, adorned in their graduation robes, marching into the hall to Beethoven’s Ode to Joy. This piece was chosen to be played at the March because as an institution our greatest wish is that our students should be happy wherever in the world they are.

Next the Principal and the Coordinators lit the lamp as a tribute to Goddess Saraswati, which was followed by an inspirational speech by the HOS. The Passing of the Light was next, where the students lit their candles with the candle passed by the Principal, symbolising the passing knowledge.

Next the students were led into the Oath-taking by Principal sir. This was followed by declaration of the Salutatorian award to Anirudh Sharma of IBDP and Mahak Jodwal of CIE, and Valedictorian award to Chirag Hablani for IBDP and Mithali from CIE.

The Salutatorians gave their speeches next, followed by the Valedictorian speeches. Their speeches were followed by a touching speech by Mrs. Jodwal, Mahak's mother, who thanked CI from the heart.

The event was nearing a close and the celebratory cake was cut next. The entire batch gathered while the Salutatorian and Valedictorian did the honours.

The Graduation Mementos were given next and, on a lighter note, fun-filled titles to each graduating student. Senior teachers who had taught the outgoing batch since they theie toung years, were invited on stage to present the mementos. Thereafter, DP-1 students performed a lively song for their seniors - The Best Day of My Life by American Authors, which was followed by an energetic dance performance.

Our wonderdul DP1 students reflected every bit of the IB learner profile and took on this responsibility and saw it through beautifully.

The development of thinking and problem solving skills is an important objective of Education for Sustainable Development, especially given the urgency of problems facing the world today. These skills can be taught and enhanced through Inquiry Based Learning.Inquiry based learning is a learner centered approach that emphasizes higher order thinking skills. It is a constructivist approach, in which students have ownership of their learning. They are responsible for processing the data they are working with in order to reach their own conclusion. Thus it helps in developing higher – order, information literacy and critical thinking skills. They develop problem solving abilities and skills for lifelong learning.

To successfully inculcate Inquiry Based Learning, Parents, Teachers and Students have to work in collaboration. One of the most important and vital role in the journey of Inquiry based learning is played during Student Led Conference. It gives a platform to the students to exhibit their learning and skills; in turn motivating them towards the path of growing and succeeding. At CI, the student led conference for the session 14-15 was organized on 4th March’2015.

Exactly what the name implies students took the lead role during the conference for sharing the examples of their work, discussing next steps and setting goals. After several weeks of preparation and hard work, students were all set for the conference. They came along with their parents filled with enthusiasm and confidence.

They took their parents along the gallery walk wherein they confidently explained various charts and performed various activities exhibiting their learning. Talking about their learning through the unit of Inquiry using the inquiry cycle and constructivist approach; they framed their own sentences to talk about how the Transdisciplinary Theme learning is facilitated in the classroom in a practical manner.  

Further, Portfolios the collections of student work representing a selection of performance were shown by the students to their parents. They talked about their strengths and weaknesses, their best pieces and accomplishments, personally favored works. It explicitly linked academic learning with future planning and goal setting. This helped them in self – awareness, self-evaluating, goal – setting and decision making skills essential for lifelong self – determination.

The conference culminated with an authentic feedback from parents and teachers reflection about the child’s progress and reflection of students about their own performance.

Overall, SLC helped students in getting successfully involved in the process of taking responsibility and making them accountable for their own learning and life plan. It also helped in creating a partnership between the teacher, student and parents to act as a support network or as stakeholders in the success of the student. 

I I M U N - D A L Y C O L L E G E

Being a group of avid debaters and wanting to participate in one of those much - heard of Model United Nations, we were offered the chance to be a part of the biggest MUN in Asia, hosting above 2000 delegates, 17 committees and a collection of reputed dignitaries gracing the event.

This phenomenal event began on the 14th August with an opening ceremony in Barda, a suburb in Mumbai, where the event was graced by speakers such as Rahul Bose, Imran Khan, Allas Ababa, Muzzader Khan and Dr. Shashi Tharoor among others, who conducted fruitful question answer sessions with a highly interactive audience. Their topics ranged from UN peace conflicts and choreography to philanthropy and social entrepreneurship. Inter - cultural dances and a rock finale by Leslie Lewis depicting farmer s u i c i d e s t o p p e d o f f t h i s spectacular opening, and left us gasping in anticipation.

The MUN began t he nex t m o r n i n g , w i t h c o m m i t t e e s commencing around 10 o'clock; agendas were set, countries

gauged their opponents and allies while lifelong friends were made. Interact ing wi th our fe l low delegates, we began to learn more about their schools, their school - life hardships and this began our friendship; though this was forgotten as delegates of Israel and Palestine approached the dais, defending their country rights.Topics ranged from the drafting of the Polar Code and international aviation law, to agricultural FTA's and the long - standing Cyprus Issue.

The next day of this conference began, following a comedy session the previous night, which had delegates rolling around in mirthful laughter. This next day was eventful ; a cr ises was introduced in nearly all of the seventeen committees; a ship was hijacked in the Gulf of Aden, India broke away from the BRICS and China was accused of aiding terror ism in the twenty -first century! Each committee, after hours of frantic debate, drafted declarations and, with a sigh of relief, resolved our world's most deadly and frightening simulated crises! It was thoroughly full of excitement!

On 17th August, 2014, was the Daly College Model United Nations. It was the first ever MUN to be held in Indore. The three day conference was held at the magnificent campus of the Daly College Business School. All the delegates were excited for the first MUN to be held in their own city. The first day went past the delegates in a blur. Soon after the registration was a fantastic opening ceremony held in the auditorium of the school. The delegates were introduced to the topic of the MUN, ‘Erasing the divide’ and soon began the conference. Two intense sessions helped all the newcomers to come out of their shells and finally open up to everyone

around them. The first day was just the beginning of the long and exciting sessions the delegates were going to face in the following days.The second day was much better for the delegates as they started actively participating in the debates. The first ‘motion of entertainment’ was passed. There was a lot of dancing and singing in all the committees. At the end of the day the Security Council was voted the most fruitful committee of the day. Shlok Kothari grabbed the attention of many when he was chosen as the best dressed delegate f r o m S p e c i a l P o l i t i c s a n d Decolonization Committee. 

The second day of the conference was much more exciting, with a total of four conferences.

The third and final day of the conference came with a twist. The delegates were alarmed when general quarters was sounded in between the second session of the day. The siren called for an immediate general assembly. The General Assembly was due to an imaginary crisis thought up by the DCMUN staff. The delegates were disappointed as the Assembly ended without a resolution being passed. However, the Chairperson assured the delegates that just by participating actively in the assembly, they had made the whole conference a huge success.

Daly- Emerald Model United Nations conference was a great learning experience for all the students. This MUN conference was jointly hosted by Daly College and Emerald Heights International School. This conference had an eclectic mix of committees, ranging from the Futuristic Security Council to the Ministry of Magic. The students prepared hard for this conference; They researched their topics thoroughly, came up with innovative solutions and prepared important speeches. Finally the three days of the conference started. All the students were excited and nervous too. The opening ceremony was fabulous and the presence of Mr. Bob as the key note speaker added more fun to it. After the opening ceremony the committee sessions started. All the students showed exceptional understanding of the topics and proposed practical solutions. Leaving aside the debate the socials added fun to the already enthralling experience. The social on the first day was all about culture and on the second day it was time for delegate dance. All the students enjoyed dancing on the tunes of the DJ. The closing ceremony was held on the evening of third day of the conference, with the cultural programme of Daly College Band and Bihu Dance. Also, the audience was enlightened by the words of wisdom by Mr. Ved Pratap Vaidik. Finally the conference came to an end with Sujay Jain winning the Best delegate for the United Nations Emergency Summit and Rusheek Rawal secured an honourable mention for the ministry of magic. To sum up DEMUN 2015 was a must and fun filled learning experience for all delegates.

First Assembly of session 2014 -15

The students of grade 5 ‘A’ gave “A glimpse of our city Indore” through their first assembly in PYP this session. The students started the assembly with the prayer, followed by thought for the day & a presentation on the city “Indore”. The presentation was enjoyed by the kids. After the presentation, the PYP coordinator gave away certificates to the achievers of Olympiads of the previous session & congratulated them. She also appreciated the effort put in by the students of grade 5 A. This assembly was an excellent beginning and has set the standard for successive assemblies.

The first step towards getting flying colours has been taken. All the students of kindergarten and grade I gathered for their first assembly of the session 2014- 2015, on 22nd July in the Atrium. The theme was “French Fiesta”. Early Year students participated and made it a successful assembly.It had started with all the blooming buds of Nursery who went up on the stage for a poem recitation, “Twinkle   Twinkle” . Though it was their first experience on the stage nobody was having an iota of fear. Next poem was recited by KG I (A) “Two little ducks”. It was enthusiastically performed. Students of KG I (B) sung the poem, “Hindi Swar” and the poem “Five little ducks” was sung by the students of KG II.

CI Assemblies don’t mean a mere m o r n i n g g a t h e r i n g . O u r assemblies are a time for deep reflections on one hand, and colourful celebrations on the other. CI Assemblies are events through which we celebrate the diversity of our students. We strengthen the ability in our students to reflect on their actions and contribute to their own overall development.

The ever increasing population of the world is one of the biggest concerns of this century. On 10th July, 2014 as students of all classes gathered in the atrium for the assembly, they were greeted with a clock on the projection board which was ticking unusually fast. A closer look revealed that it was a ‘World Population Clock’ and the ticker was a real-time count of births and deaths in the world. The ‘Population Clock’ was the indication of MYP 5A’s assembly - World Population Day.

To begin with, Hiteshi Mirchandani and Sarthak Patidar presented the news headlines for 2050 depicting how the future world would look like with given rate of population. This was followed by a presentation by Raza Kirmani and Priya Rathi wherein they gave an insight of the reasons for rise in population and also the severe consequences of such increase. They also highlighted on measures that can be taken to control the population today. The assembly concluded with a mime presentation by Ruqaiya Ariwala and Khushi Karnawat conveying the message that Earth - God’s beautiful creation has enough for everyone’s need but not for greed.The event ended with the beautiful smiles on the faces of all the kids. Hiroshima Peace Day

MYP 4 B had assembly presentation based on the Hiroshima Peace Day. The day commemorates the loss of lives in 1945 when nuclear bombs were dropped on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by U.S. Students gave a presentation which briefly narrated the history of conflict between United States and Japan during WWII, the bombing and its aftermath. The presentation was followed by a video where survivors recounted their personal experiences. After the student presentation, Ms. Ila Sharma, Teacher of English, MYP 4 & 5 spoke to the students about the practice of Academic Honesty. CI's Academic Honesty policy and the importance of this good practice was discussed.

 On Thursday, 18/09/2014, the students of MYP 2 A presented their assembly on the theme of ‘International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer’, addressing the IB Global Context of Globalization and Sustainability. The students started the assembly with the prayer, followed by thought for the day, a song praising the beautiful things of nature, a speech which was well supported with a video on how to prevent the depletion of ozone layer and a dance performance, in which the ozone layer is pleading the humankind to protect it. The DP assembly on 22nd September was to acknowledge the International Day for Preservation of the Ozone Layer. International-mindedness is an ideal CI believes in.  Acknowledging this day, Juzer Haideri of DP-2 introduced the theme of this year’s day– Ozone Layer Protection: The Mission Goes On. He spoke about the Secretary-General’s, Ban-Ki-Moon’s message on the Day and informing the gathering about the manner in which some Asian countries celebrated. The introduction was followed by a quiz arranged by DP-1 students – Bhoomi, Vaibhav and Ruchika. The questions of the quiz ranged from making the assembly think about CFCs, using cars vs. carpools, everyday household items like aerosols and more.

International World Tourism Day 2014

Did you ever want to swim in crystal clear waters, eat delicious food, go boating or even just sit by the shore? Well those are some of the things that many tourists love!The MYP-2B assembly on 25th September Celebrated the International World tourism Day. International-mindedness is an ideal CI believes in. The entire presentation was directly aligned with our unit - protecting the coasts so that the communities on the coastal side could preserve their cultural legacy through the money earned by the means tourism.The students were introduced to the theme of ‘Protecting the coasts’ so that the community who lives on the coastal side could preserve their cultural legacy through the money earned by the means of tourism.The unit’s key concept was globalization and sustainability and the statement of inquiry-“Advancement in scientific and technical spears has affected the global world communities and environments” which says that world takes support of science and technology in promoting and protecting the world communities. Further the inquiry cycle was clear and complete through the final action as students of MYP 2B celebrated World Tourism Day which incorporated the unit of protecting coasts. The assembly started with skit on the importance of coastal tourism and local community development, included tropical dance performance followed by presentation cum quiz on world tourism day and reflection on the topic learnt by students and finally concluded by motivational song “ Zindigi hai ek safar suhana - which means Life is a wonderful journey..and “Musafir hu yaro … Friends I am a wanderer traveler - I have to travel and travel …”

On 4th August, A-Level students conducted the senior assembly to bring in the festival of Rakshabandhan or Rakhi, which was on 10th August.Rakhi is an ancient Hindu festival that celebrates the bond of love and duty between brothers and sisters. On this day, sisters tie a rakhi (a sacred, ornamental thread) on their brothers’ wrists, symbolizing their love and prayers for their brothers’ well-being. The brothers in return, vow to protect their sisters forever. The brothers give gifts or tokens to their sisters to celebrate this most special relationship.A group of students gave a presentation unveiling the ancient roots of Rakhi, which actually go across borders and are beyond Indian origins. Thereafter, another group presented a wonderful skit depicting the love and sacrifice of a sister for her brother.To celebrate the bond of affection and care between a brother and a sister and all those who leave no ways untried to make us feel protected and we’ll be taken care of, a Rakhi making and Thali Decoration competition was organised for the PYP students just a day before Raksha Bandhan in the classes itself as it was Intra class competition. The Early Years kids also celebrated the same as a inter class activity. Children from PYP 1 to PYP 5 crafted exquisite ways of affection and showed not only their talent but also expressed the emotions while designing beautiful rakhi and exclusive way of decorating Thali.The students concluded the assembly by telling the attendees about their own experiences on Rakhi and the sentiments behind the festival.

Assembly on AIDS Awareness “Hate the disease not the diseased”

The students of grade MYP 2A presented their assembly on the theme of ‘World Aids Day’. The students started the assembly with the prayer, followed by a thought for the day on living your life to the fullest, a dramatic presentation to spread awareness about AIDS which was made impacting with a wonderful dance performance, a song on the spirit of living, a speech which was well supported with a power point presentation  to eradicate aids, so lives can be saved . After the presentation, the MYP coordinator appreciated the effort put in by the students of grade MYP 2A.  The assembly came to an end with an appeal ‘Lets aid each other to combat A.I.D.S.’.

All work and no play will make CI a dull place and we can’t have that! The CI family, students and faculty together participate in many festivals and international celebrations to exalt the human spirit and infuse colours into student life at CI.

Independence Day Celebration

14th, August, 2014, the environment of Choithram International was filled with joy and pleasure as each child was excited to celebrate Janmashtami, the Birthday of everyone’s favourite Lord Krishna. All the PYP students were dressed up in and traditional outfits and beautiful smiles on their faces.A special assembly was organised by PYP students to commemorate the birth of Lord Krishna. The assembly was compered by the Captain and the vice-captain of Gandhi House where in they presented a speech on the life of Lord Krishna. The little ones of KG 1 were not left behind in showcasing their talents; they captivated everyone by singing a lovely song for Lord Krishna. Fun and gaiety were floating in the atmosphere. PYP 2 students captivated the audience by their awesome dance performance showing the powers of Sri Krishna. The dance was followed by the “Matki Fod" event without which the entire show would have been incomplete. Thus, the event ended with the contemporary krishnas hovering over the toffees spilling out of the broken matki. This event was an exemplar which connected modernity with tradition and culture. 

True spirit of Indian Independence was felt at Choithram International in its three-day celebration. First day, 13th August 2014, PYP students had an Inter-house folk dance competition. Different houses performed a variety of folk dances like Rajasthani, Punjabi and Marathi Koli dance. Tagore house bagged the first prize.Second day, 14th August 2014, MYP had its Inter-House Folk Dance Competition. Lincoln House won the competition this time by performing a mash-up of Rajasthani folk Dances.On the day of 15th August 2014, Independence Day, whole school had a musical celebration. The event began with flag- hoisting followed by the National Anthem. School choir presented many patriotic songs and the event ended with a spirited speech by the MYP Head Boy Sahil Jain.

Oh my friend Ganesh - Welcome Back!!

“Wishing you Happiness as big as Ganeshji’s appetite, Life is long as his trunk trouble as small as his mouse and moments as sweet as his laddus!!” Most awaited moment of the year finally comes to an end, the arrival of everybody’s favourite Lord Ganesha, who is worshiped as the supreme God of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. People across the Nation celebrate the 11 days festival with great zeal; with the same high spirit, today in school PYP students celebrated the occasion.The program began with the informative expression on the birth of lord Ganesh and how the festival is celebrated in different parts of India, shared by PYP Head boy, Dhruv and Head girl, Niti. They even gave the message to bring Eco-friendly Ganesh ji to save water by not polluting it.It was followed by the captivating dance performance by KG 2 kids, where in they called Ganesh as their friend and asked him to be with them forever.It was not over yet, a

wholehearted dance performance by group of PYP 4 and 5 students stole the hearts of the audience. The event ended with the message by the PYP coordinator to enjoy the weekend and bring home Ganesha with the same enthusiasm.

In MYP assembly, Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated to mark the advent of the master of all knowledge, intelligence and wisdom, Lord Ganesha. The students chanted in chorus, the ganesh stuti and worshiped “Vigana Harta”, “Buddhi Pradaayaka” to illumine their minds. Students of MYP 3B presented an informative power point on Ganesh Chaturthi, an interesting video and stories on Lord Ganesha. This was followed by an exuberant performance of the marathi prayer - Sukhkarta Dukhharta, which created festive environment. At last, Anthon - an Egyptian intern expressed his views on 'Cultural Diversity' through a presentation and a video. The assembly ended with a message - “Cultural differences should not separate us from each other,

but rather cultural diversity brings a collective strength that can benefit all of humanity.”

The word ‘teacher’ represents knowledge; transfer of the knowledge from a teacher to the taught person. In fact, the foundation that builds a person in life is to a great extent based on the knowledge he gets from his teacher. If there is somebody other than our parents who plays an important role in our mental development, it’s our teachers. 5th of September is that one day of the year when students all over the country acknowledge the efforts of their teachers. This is also how India celebrates the birthday of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan.At Choithram International, the day of 5th of September, the PYP 5 students showed the gratitude towards their Teachers. They prepared magnificent program for all the PYP Teachers.The program started with the School Prayer, and short speech was given by the PYP Head Boy and Head Girl about the reason we celebrate Teacher’s Day. Then they shared their feelings for all the teachers by dedicating appellation to them with ‘Guess Who Quiz 2014 . Then , MYP and Dp students also planned the surprise celebration for their teachers. The teachers were cordially invited to the atrium at 2.00. The program began with the welcome address by the school Head Boy and Head Girl Anirudh Sharma and Mithali. This was followed by many fun games and quizzes which the teachers enjoyed thoroughly.

Students celebrated Navratri, dressed up in traditional attire on 1st October 2014.The whole school resonated with joy and happiness. The celebration embodied with the traditional Garba dance on foot tapping beats of folk songs, attended by all students and teachers, which was a sight to watch. The little dancers trying to match the foot taps and dandiya beats with their teachers was a wonderful sight. The environment was fascinating and was reflecting positivity and the vibrant energy was completed by the festive scenario coupled with the colourful costumes and boundless enthusiasm.The young revelers rejoiced the celebrations to the fullest. The whole school resonated with joy and happiness.

Children’s Day is celebrated in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, independent India’s first Prime Minister. The occasion is celebrated on 14th November every year with great grandeur and dignity. It is due to his love and passion for children, this day is marked as Children’s Day, thereby honouring childhood. This occasion is observed on a national level with celebrations in the schools across the Nation.CI too celebrated the day with fervour and ecstasy, the only difference was the PYP Teachers prepared unanticipated show for the Early years & PYP students. The show began with the Ramp walk of the teachers who were dressed up in their beautiful traditional attires. The children were completely astonished to see their teachers in the new AVTAAR!! It was not over yet indeed; it was just the beginning as after the Ramp walk there were dance Performances by the teachers which was like cherry on the cake. Couple of teachers also sang beautiful songs for them. The children could not stop appreciating the teachers for the pro gram they had arranged. Later, the moment they entered into their classes, teachers surprised them with the gifts and the class party they had organised for their students. Children were deeply touched with this gesture of the teachers and the PYP Coordinator. PYP 5 children also played Tug Of War and enjoyed the scene. We teachers too relived our childhood with our lovely and wonderful kids and seeing them smiling was the most beautiful reward we had at the end of the day. We just want to convey to them, “Teaching you all is our passion, Helping you all is our responsibility, and being with you all is just the reliving our most memorable time and that is The Childhood!!”

Out of all the rites of passage into DP, the most important would definitely be getting to understand Theory of Knowledge, or as it is referred to - TOK.At the core of the Diploma Programme, TOK is the most difficult concept to grasp, but becomes very interesting when students actually start putting their minds to it.As an initiation into DP, DP-1 students werhad to be given an idea about how TOK can be integrated across the curriculum, through the various WOKs. Students were divided into subjects groups and the subject teachers gave them one TOK question, on which the group of students had to give a presentation.The assembly was a success, with the students doing a great job of grasping the idea behind TOK and integrating it with their subject.All the presentations were noteworthy and definitely left a mark on all students of DP-1, when they realised that they were all capable of looking beyond the ordinary, and asking and exploring BIG TOK questions.

“Thanksgiving, after all, is a word of action.”

International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated on 11th October but the students of CI DP-1 acknowledged it on 13th October by moving out of the campus, on to the streets and distributing pamphlets, holding posters and conducting interviews. 

The theme for this year was, “Empowering adolescent girls: ending the cycle of violence.” The pamphlets contained facts and figures related to crime against women and the interview was also based on the same.  The responses they got were negative as well as positive but students respected everyone’s views, thus practicing the IB learner profiles, “communicators” and “open-minded.”  During the assembly, on the 27th of October 2014, the entire DP-1 reflected on the same and gave their feedback on the experience. Global Youth Debate was another ongoing event in the school, where active online debating was taking place on the Flat Connections platform. There were 4 teams comprising of 3 members each. All the participants reflected on why the recordings were not done in time, reasons being time restrictions and holidays.  There was also a discussion on some significant learning through the ongoing classes.

MYP 3B presented assembly on Thanksgiving Day. The students used this opportunity to make children aware of the historical foundation and the importance of Thanksgiving Day by presenting Power Point Presentation, a video and short inspirational film. The students presented their Performing Arts skills through an inspirational song, a very well choreographed dance and a very well coordinated instrumental presentation. Children poured their feeling of gratitude towards the teachers, family, friends, and above all the creator of the beautiful world -God through a poem. "Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough."

International Friendship Week

The DP Assembly on 28th July, led by Tutor Group – 2, was all about celebrating the beginning of International Friendship Week. It was a fun-filled and cheery assembly, with the universal message of camaraderie and friendship that surpasses borders.Mohit Arora and Aditya Bhagtani started the sequence of events by giving the assembly an insight into the reason behind celebrating Friendship Day and explored the involvement of the booming greeting card industry behind it. This was followed by Mohit narrating the Joke for the Day.The next presentation was a beautiful musical performance – You Can Count On Me (by Bruno Mars), with Juzer as the Lead Singer and his friends – Mohit, Disha, Tanisha and Srishti giving the background vocals. While the singers were on stage, a lovely presentation played alongside on the projector, displaying the lyrics and some adorable sketches on friendship, which brought a smile on each and every face including the teachers. The last few minutes were reserved for important updates and announcements from DPC.

Keeping in tune with the IB philosophy of international-mindedness, the DP students have always looked forward to DP Global Awareness Sessions. This facet to DP assemblies had been introduced over a year ago. The idea behind this initiative was to shape our students into true global citizens of the world.

This Global Awareness Session was held on 21st July, where DP students and AISEC interns sat in groups. Each table was given a case study on a current social / cultural / political issue in the countries of China, Hong Kong, Korea, Egypt and Afghanistan. Each case study had a question at the end, which guided the students to analyse the issue and give an answer. Issues ranged from cultural differences, political issues, socio-economic issues etc.

Where the issue of ban on Facebook in China was discussed, the student team spoke about how social media was banned in China, which the Chinese intern then went on to contradict. He clarified the fact that though Facebook is banned, there are other Chinese social media platforms that are accepted and used widely.

Another issue discussed was considering an employment opportunity in conflict-ridden Egypt. Would you accept a job offer from Egypt? The student team said they wouldn’t and went on to support their stand with examples. The intern from Egypt then came on stage and agreed with the student team, saying it would be next to impossible to work in circumstances that are prevailing in Egypt currently.

A reflection on DP Group - 4 Project

The IB Group 4 Project, is an assoc ia t i ve task and learn ing oppor tun i ty amalgamat ing the Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Compu te r Sc ience cour se s a t Choithram International. As the name suggests, these are the courses that are categorized in the fourth group of subjects offered by the International Baccalaureate. The theme for the entire project was "water sustainability" and we localised i t t o o u r s c h o o l , C h o i t h r a m International. As it goes, each science group needs to research, evaluate and conclude (with a solution/improvisation, perhaps) about at least one aspect in tandem with the prime theme. The Physics group decided to explore the complete water circulation cycle installed in the Choithram campus and tried to bring up any improvisations and solutions to any existing problems in the cycle, or its contraptions. The basic goal here, was to thoroughly apply some contrivance towards the cycle.  Then, the Chemistry group chose to conduct various tests to ascertain the safety of water that is sourced from the Narmada river and 9 privately installed tube-wells and is t h e w h o l e c a m p u s ' d r i n k i n g consumption. Moving on, the Biology group studied again, via an experimental approach l ike the Chemis t r y group, the biological repercussions of this source water on plant growth and its upshot

on ecosystems in the vicinity. Lastly, the Computer Science group took up a heavy responsibility and provided considerable aid to other groups in the more technical and IT-savy components such as data analysis and designing software to the current need. Coming down to brass tacks, the Physics group concluded that the frequency of needed maintenance should definitely be increased, the more than evident cracks owing to rust build up should be patched, ser viced r ight away and most impor tantly, a collaboration of e l e c t r i c a l c om ponen t s ca l l ed capacitors, that is, capacitor banks should be employed in order to augment the overall efficiency of the circulation cycle. Secondly, the results obtained by the Chemistry group were that the water used in the campus can be vouched for and is safe and soft for use. Lastly, the Biology group got results, that is with the help of the Computer Science students, displaying that there was no essential effect of sludge water on plant growth as this water had no microbes present in it. In addition to this, they also tested the water from the watershed at the Saraswati river and came to know that excessive po l lu t ion had resu l t ed in t he u n f o r t u n a t e o c c u r r e n c e o f Eutrophication of the water body. While performing the experiments, we had to take into account some moral and ethical issues as well. We had to take permission from the Choithram authorities to take samples of water

from the water treatment plant. We were not free to publish the data collected anywhere as it itself was confidential and we were given access to it only because we are a part of the Choithram family. Also, it needs to be brought to the attention of all audience and readers that because all ou r s t ud i e s , eva l ua t i on s and experiments lasted for a short period of time, we could attain experimental and evaluative accuracy but to a limited extent. The students of the second year of the Diploma Program, through the chance of this Group 4 Project, undertook an attempt to make a small but, consequential and pithy contribution towards a major, globally faced problem of scarcity of potable water. We prevent water wastage and make the environment greener by alleviating water scarcity in the regional area. This project helped the DP -2 s tuden t s unders tand t he importance of working as team, mutually and co-ordinating with each other. It even taught us to accept the weakest of our traits and to work around them, if we can’t overcome them. We learned how to form a realistic link between the science courses offered by our school and think outside the conventional box. All in all, it was truly a great learning experience and has helped us become significantly better global citizens.

On Saturday, July 19, 2014, students of MYP 4 (class IX) visited Kach Motors Pvt. Ltd., a leading manufacturer of U bolts and forged machined components, located in Pithampur. This field trip was in relation to the topic ‘Measurements and units’ in Physics. Students were divided in two groups. Some employees of the company escorted them to demonstrate the working of machines and devices which are useful in getting the products in appropriate measurement. Students learned about CNC (Computerized Numeric Control) machines, heat treatment for increasing hardness of steel including induction heat treatment process, various devises for checking hardness, diameter, depth, angles and height of the automobile parts and much more.

Field Trips- PYP:

Visit to different Worship places An outing gives an opportunity to kids to relax & enjoy. It is a perfect source of rejuvenation & keeps children charged up. Students of Grade 2 are exploring -Culture with the theme -Who we are. For the first visit of this session, second graders were taken to  different worshiping places  like " Red Church" , " Khajrana Mandir" and " LIG Gurudwara" . Their are different kinds of people living in the world who follow different traditions ,belief and values. The main purpose for a visit was to make them understand diversity of culture. with their learning. The students were fascinated to see different practices which they followed in every places . This visit provided the student a break from their classroom routine to extend their learning in a fun filled manner which has resulted in better understanding & learning experience , students also reflected this by a write up in notebooks.

Students even used CREYA MODULE "digital camera" for the first time. They were full of zeal and enthusiasm which has developed their interest and keen understanding of children around the world have their own cultural influences.

Zoo Visit Under the theme sharing the planet (topic: animals) student went for a field trip to zoo during their last line of inquiry for better understanding of the running theme. Also the children put very good efforts in making the public over there aware about the importance of every animal in our eco system. They spoke publicly slogans on saving wildlife and also by putting up some posters at zoo. People over there were so amazed to see the efforts put in by small kids.

UNIVERSITY VISIT BY ISBF

ISBF, the Indian affiliate campus of London School of Economics and Political Science, visited Choithram School, North Campus and Choithram International to brief the students about admission procedure, future prospects and more.

It was an illuminating talk by Ms. Shreeja Sukhani, faculty member at ISBF. She elaborated on the admission process and the criteria on which the admissions are based.

The presentation was followed by a question-answer session with the students.

It was a successful talk, one which was highly appreciated by the attending students.

Visit to the Central Museum! To get a glimpse of early man’s life, kids were taken to the Central Museum. The enthusiastic and curious group was thrilled for the trip. The young inquirers were great observers and asked many questions to understand better. Looking at the paintings, story of coins, fossils, tools, etc helped them get a feel of how people lived in past. They correlated how ideas, innovations have led to advancements and developing modern world.  Central Museum Visit - For the first visit of this session, fifth graders were taken to Central Museum Indore, where they got a chance to peep into the past. Integrating the Museum visit with a topic or unit of work provides students with a more effective learning experience because it provides them with a context. The visit to the museum imparted knowledge about the civilization of the past, especially about Indus Valley Civilization. They saw various artefacts that presented a clear picture of the domestic life, town planning, art & culture, jewellery, pottery etc. of Indus Valley Civilization A successful museum trip involves three P’s: preparation, participation & post visit reflection Students reflected on the visit and used the knowledge and understandings they have gained during their visit and related them to the theme - Where We Are In Place And Time and to the unit - Ancient Civilizations, they have been studying.

Inter House folk Dance Competition was held on 14th August 2014 at CI. It was a colorful competition full of energy and enthusiasm. Different houses presented variety of folk Dances. Like Gandhi house performed Marathi folk dance focusing Lavani Dance, Lincoln house presented Rajasthani folk dance it was blend of various Rajasthani folk dances, Mandela house presented energetic Bhangra of Punjabi and lastly Tagore house performed Gujarati Garba. Out of them Lincoln won the competition.

The importance of a quiz is to keep our brain sharp. It helps us to be updated and hone up our skills of recollecting what we have learnt so far. With the same spirit PYP champs of Choithram International, an IB World School from PYP 2 to 5 participated in Inter house Quiz Competition on 25th July 2014.

There were four house teams- Mandela, Gandhi, Tagore & Lincoln constituted of 4 members each striving to win. There were four rounds consisted of variety of subjects ranging from social studies, entertainment to current affairs. The most popular rounds were the audio-visual and the rapid fire rounds as that kept the teams and the audience alert with their ever ready answers.

The participants seemed well prepared and displayed an eagerness to attempt the questions put up to them. An equally enthusiastic audience was kept involved with the questions which were put across to them, when the teams were unable to answer the questions.

The school is commemorating the Wild Life Conservation Week and to spread the message, the Poster Making Competition which was held in the school premises on 9th October 2014.The poster is a means to convey some important message to a large number of people. It is another way of making awareness of something on a large scale. With the same view students of PYP 3 to 5 participated in the competition.The theme for the competition was “Wild Life Conservation”, and they were all set to promote their vision through Drawing and Slogans.The aim of the competition was to promote critical thinking abilities amongst children on conservation methods to save wildlife on Earth. The school environment itself was giving reflection of thoughts and actions of the students that can be taken for the same. The posters also showcased our callous attitude towards the animals and their living environment. The creativity, thinking skill, enthusiasm and sensitivity of the children showed that All is Not Lost. Skit Competitions do not only strengthen ones’ confidence to face the audience but also helps in developing awareness about our surroundings and the daily happenings. Young learners are the best messengers to spread the awareness of the social and global issues and their voice do leave an impact on ones’ mind.This year PYP students thought to present skits on the social issues which are not only thought provoking but can be made awareness prone, to eradicate them completely from our country, INDIA. With the same spirit, these young learners started preparing for the competition days before. The school atmosphere was full of liveliness and enthusiasm as students wanted to give their best. They were more interested to raise the social issues with which they can help everyone understand the real face of the society. Though it was inter-house competition, but the euphoria was same for each of the participants. Parents too were invited to witness the scenario and encourage the participants. They also loved watching their children perform on stage with such tenacity and prowess. On 28th November 2014 the competition was held between the four houses and they prepared on different issues. Gandhi house students prepared on ‘Save girl child’, Lincoln house students prepared on ‘Clean India’, Tagore house prepared on ‘Corruption’ and Mandela house prepared on ‘Child Labour’. The way students performed on stage was a sight to watch. It did not look like the competition was going on, in fact it appeared as if each one of them wanted to give only one message, “Let our Nation be free from the dirt it has been facing for years now and get the Freedom Forever. Although Lincoln house won the competition but the euphoria created by all the participants will be felt for a long time.

The AISEC is an organization that encourages cross-cultural collaboration through student exchange programs across the world. 2014 saw around 50 interns coming into our school and staying in the hostel to soak in the CI life and learn about the Ind ian t rad i t ions , cu l t u re , festivals, politics, education and more. These interns came from Bahrain, China, Vietnam, Taiwan, Mauritius, Kuwait, Egypt, Italy, Turkey, Hong Kong, Morocco Senegal and Kazakisthan. The DP students had a very thought-provoking Global Awareness Session with them and the junior students also loved spending time with them. Just before leaving all the interns participated in the French Week celebration , where they performed a flawless Indian group dance and le f t t he audience spell-bound.

Day 3 was completely reserved for an adventurous & educational trip to Mandu. Children visited the fossil museum & beautiful palaces in order to understand that each moment that has passed weave a tapestry of the ancient world—but it is the modern world, too. History breathes, and we give it breath. We stand upon the ruins of the old world, and look forward into the future. Day 4 of the student exchange program star ted with some mental exercises by an expert in numerical skills Mr Thomas, who shared some shorter, quicker and easy to remember techniques of “Vedic Mathematics”. A Library session was organized for the students where in the teacher librarian narrated some short stories to the students. We also had a very interesting ICT session where in the student reflected on their I Pad apps and demonstrated the use of IPAD in their daily

routine. Day 5 of the student exchange programme began with an enlightening Guest lecture by one of the parents of PYP 5 Ms.Alison & her kids Ilan and Gareth. They shared their journey of migrating from one country to another and enthusiastically answered the queries of children. The students were amazed to see the Solar powered home, which a whole had set of solar cookers ranging from the box type to different types of reflectors .The next most awaited event for the students was the “Talent hunt” which provided kids of both the schools an opportunity to showcase their talents. The day concluded with the exchange of gratitude & memento between both the schools. It was really an unforgettable experience & great learning for the kids of both the schools.

“Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think” With this thought, the journey of the student exchange programme between Choithram International and Ajmera Global School unfolded, providing children a platform where learning goes beyond the walls of the classroom & ideas are exchanged. Exchanges indeed are great ideas.... there is no better way to create global thinkers! Student exchange offers broad based benefits and outcomes for students keen to embark on a global adventure. Most of these are intertwined and come together to constitute the overarching exchange experience. Day one of the PYP student exchange programme began with a musical welcome by the kids of Choithram International followed by an introduction session between both the schools.

The day concluded with friendly matches of cricket, football & basket ball between the two schools. The second day of the “Student Exchange Program” started again with immense enthusiasm .Students met their buddies with affection and the day started with the recapitulation of the previous day. Students discussed about the friendly matches and shared their wonderful experiences. To know more about the culture of the host school, the students of Grade 2 organized a sparkling assembly with the ‘Fashion show’ which personified the style in innocence, the kids’ models walking briskly down the runway was well enjoyed by the viewers.. Later on the students of Ajmera Global School and the students of MYP 1 and MYP 2 of Choithram International reflected on their exhibition journey, followed by an informative discussion session.

Personal Project holds a special place in every MYP 5 student's heart. It is a project which gives students an opportunity to work on their area of interest. This 9 month long project involves working on a product ( of their choice) and compiling a report of their experience."6th August, 2014 saw the culmination of their Personal Project journey as students got ready to exhibit their products. The products ranged from books to websites to designer clothes to hydraulic pressure cranes. These original creations by the students of MYP 5 were displayed for parents, teachers and students alike. The exhibition was a success and tenth graders glowed with pride as they stood by their Personal Project.

Exhibition has always been one of the best forms of sharing of what we have achieved through our learning. KG 2, PYP 3 and PYP 5 students unveiled their unit end learnings through the exhibition. Astounding students of KG 2 shared their learning about homes and houses under the theme, where we are in place and time. With parental support all had prepared beautiful houses which astounded everyone. They revealed interesting facts about different types of houses, how these are built and where they are found as per the climatic conditions. The enthusiastic and energetic students of PYP 3 exhibited their learning of the theme, Sharing the planet. To share the knowledge in a magnificent manner, they made Models of Earth, booklets on pollution, interesting and creative posters & charts and PPTs. And knowledgeable students of PYP 5 shared amazing facts about excretory, immune and endocrine systems of human body, under the theme, Who we are. They also shared the role of PSPE in keeping the body systems healthy. They had prepared models, charts and prepared their presentations on iPads. Parents were invited to encourage them and witness the view how confidently the children were prepared.Although the themes were different but end results were same, getting praises and lots of appreciation not only from parents but also from teachers and other PYP students.

UNIT END EXHIBITION

CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL

Christmas, another festival which is filled with joy and creates liveliness in the environment. It is the festival for one and all, age is no bar!! Being the last festival of the year, it gives the message to spread love and laughter in everyone’s life and let the New Year begin with the new desires and dreams to be fulfilled. The students and teachers have already created the feel in the environment around. They celebrated with zest and nobody could stop smiling throughout the venture. All were in red or white attire which was yet another view to witness. It began with School Assembly, wherein the beautiful performance by students presented the story of Nativity, the birth of Lord Jesus. And the moment students could stop appreciating the performance, they saw someone joining in and wishing everyone ‘Merry Christmas…..Merry Christmas’; It was none other than the Santa, every child’s best friend!! The vision was captivating and children could not stop themselves from dancing with Santa. Soon after the assembly yet another surprise was tucked up for the students and it was the “Christmas Carnival”. The whole atmosphere was fun filled and all were on the ninth cloud. Students enjoyed every bit of colours, festivities, tattoos, popcorns, candy floss and Bungee Bumpers. Its been a day well spent and well assorted in the pockets of memories of the children. 

MYP EXHIBITION

An exhibition was organised at Choithram International on 7th February 2015 to showcase learning experiences of students. The MYP students displayed their creative, scientific and aesthetic talent by showing innovative and brilliant projects and working models meticulously put together after undertaking intensive research work. The school atrium became a celebration of learning as enthusiasts’ beckoned visitors to stop and visit their stalls. It ingrained a pragmatic and creative attitude in young learners.

Stalls from various disciplines ranging from Poetic devices in English , idioms in hindi, model on khan river, developing Indore, inclinometers and other scientific models like water heater, Door mat alarm were showcased. It was indeed learning put into action.

PYP Excursion

“Picnic is one word which releases the stress and exertion from our minds.” A picnic is a short trip for pleasure to a beautiful place. It also adds zest to our life and provides the much sought after relief from our routine life. 27th February 2015 was yet another memorable day for the Early years and PYP 1 and 2 students as the school picnic was organized at Nakhrali Dhani, the place of rejoice and pleasure. It was a wonderful scene to see students’ excitement for the day…!! Everybody was charged-up to enjoy all the activities and rejoice the liveliness around. The moment we reached there, none of the teachers could deny the fact that there is still a little child hidden inside each one of them waiting for an opportunity to get a respite from the daily routine. Soon after we reached there, breakfast was served but children were more excited to play and wander around to witness the freshness and never ending beauty of the place. However, there were different plans for them. They were all taken for different and thrilling rides, camel ride, ride on bullock cart, trains’ ride etc. The gratification had just begun; there was yet more to come. After the rides they all were taken for the dance and all were eager to get on the floor to set the fire. No child was seen sitting, each one of them was simply enjoying every beat of the songs played and were dancing with the thought of leaving the world far behind. The time flew with the sense of making us realize that we do need to get back to our world. Children looked really famished and had their much-loved food items in the lunch. They enjoyed the meal and relaxed for few minutes. We all had delightful time at Nakhrali Dhani which was captured in our long lasting memories. We came back with one single thought,"Enjoy the little things in life. For one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things!!”

The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. 

It was not just a trip to move around, scatter and enjoy. Indeed it was a learning expedition where one could really think & make a radical change in the lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which one may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt.

We are the Facilitators who usually facilitate the learning for the students. However, enthusiastically, I must admit, this trip’s charge was taken by students and they didn’t allow us to sit at one place and the guideline by them was to move around, be nomadic, make each moment a new horizon. Students inspired us to reveal our fears and hesitations, so we can grow beyond them, into uncharted potential. Teachers crawled, jumped and even enjoyed the rain dance with students and boldly did things which they may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. It proved to be an opportunity for us to revolutionise our life and move into an entirely new realm of experience.

At the  park, Located at approximately 20 km from Indore, students felt a part of the open sky. Between the munching up of the breakfast and the delicious lunch; there were various activities lined up, which everyone enjoyed and experienced in groups, in a safe and controlled manner. A few were Commando net, Burma Bridge, Obstacle course, Challenge Circles, Jacuza net etc. Safari Activity Park proved to be a destination for learning and discovery.

An escapade to Safari Activity Park

Choithram International organised a rejuvenating picnic for the students of MYP 1, 2, 3 and 4 on March 27, 2015 to the ‘Safari Activity Park’. The students were full of zeal and enthusiasm as they got a chance to explore and unfold their own strengths. The destination gave the kids an opportunity to showcase their teamwork, problem solving and decisions making skills through various activities like - tug of war, balancing on a rope, crossing the spider net, bamboo bridge and the splash pool. Rain dance was the perfect thing to beat the heat, the students danced on the tunes of the DJ with the splash of water and got a relief form the scorching heat of the sun. The students and teachers enjoyed the picnic thoroughly. It was truly an experience to be cherished.

MYP Excursion

Eliot In the true spirit of IBDP’s core component CAS, this statement reiterates the reason of doing a successful CAS trip with 22 DP-2 students. Our students went for an action and service packed adventure trip. The adventure spot is located at the entry point of very beautiful Kanha National Park FLAME OF THE FOREST which nestles right next to the Banjar River. Students did variety of adventure activities after undergoing the training sessions the activities included Flying Fox from 80 feet height, Bouldering through the mountain, Boat racing, Water Volley-ball, Rappling, Obstacle course, 10 kms Trekking and Kabaddi. Students achieved the various learning outcomes including – undertaking new challenges, increased awareness of their own strengths, learned new skills, worked collaboratively and considered ethical implications of their actions with commitment and perseverance.

Students also visited the Baba Amte Samaj Sewa Sansthan and engaged themselves in serving the organization by cleaning it and understanding the working model of the NGO.

DP CAS

DP SAVE THE GIRL CHILD

Monday morning, 8:30 AM to 9:30AM, DP-1 students geared up with charts, pamphlets and questionnaires, ventured to make a difference to the community.

The event was about creating awareness in the community on “Save the Girl Child”, for which every detail was planned by the students themselves. From making colourful charts, to creating and printing pamphlets, to forming questionnaires, to standing on the CHRC gates braving the environmental elements to get the community to notice and respond – everything was the students’ initiative.

What initially started off with 2 groups of students, bloomed to an event where almost all DP-1 students participated.

CAS Coordinator,with other teachers, jointly organized the event, supporting the students throughout in whatever was needed. Teachers also participated in the event. The entire staff was very proud of the students and the way they wonderfully organized and executed the entire event.

The DP1 students have also taken up an initiative for teaching the blind students of MAHESH DRISHTIHEEN, a blind school near Bombay Hospital, Indore. CI students  take  lessons of spoken English and teach the blind girl students elementary conversational English. A few CI students have also develop their skills in playing musical instruments such as violin, synthesiser, congo and harmonium. This is an ongoing   project taken up by CI-IBDP students. We hope that CI students would certainly benefit the society with this small endeavour.

CAS- SENIOR CITIZENS DAY DP

With people living and working longer, it’s increasingly important that we recognise the importance of supporting senior citizens and OAPs within our society. Senior Citizens Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the long-term contribution and dedication of older people, and to ensure that we’re doing our best to give something back to older people.

DP students as a part of their CAS programme, invited some senior parent community and made their and our Monday morning special with a string of well spun events such as an act, poem recitation and a musical performance.Indore , moreover has a tradition of well knit families staying together with love and respect , where the junior members get the benefit of staying with the seniors.It was indeed a very different mood to start the festive season heralding in the coming week.

We are always looking for new ways to engage students in Community and ServicesStudents of MYP 1 are working on Augmented Reality and creating their Aura’s using Aurasma. An augmented reality app is helping to bring an image into life.Developed by Aurasma, the app can be downloaded for free and used by anyone with a smartphone. Pointing their camera on the image will instantly trigger a video about their chosen issue, making it appear as if it is embedded in the page itself.  Video has the power to connect with people in a very impactful way.  Students worked in groups on social issues like - Organ Donation, Save Girl Child, Global Warming, Follow Traffic Rules and Unity of countries.Students are creating their Aura’s to spread awareness on the above issues. The project, facilitated by Aurasma, brings together technology and community and service in a compelling new way which we hope will have a lasting impact."

PYP @ C21 for a social cause When the nation is mired in controversies and the society is battling one predicament after another, the students of Choithram International an IB World School......... have taken up the noble cause of the welfare of society. We are going to perform a street play with the intention of spreading awareness about the need for change in the society among people. In recent years street play has picked up pace and has acquired an image of a more moral nature with just the right kind of fun. Better known as ‘Nukad naatak’ today, is perhaps the best way to connect with the common man and the youth. To stir up your emotions, create awareness and to lead the way towards a positive change, here come the students of Choithram International with a street play to ignite in you the feeling of oneness for a single cause, that is 'living for life'.

Sweater Donation

"What we do for ourselves dies with us, but what we do for others is and remains immortal."This year the mercury is dipping like anything and people facing extreme cold , specially the kids going to school in the morning in the countryside area face problem .Keeping this in mind our school decided to go for an enormous gestures of donating sweaters to needy and poor kids of mason who were working very hard though were not able to fulfill basic need of their kids. Learners of pre kindergarten went to construction sites with their respective Homeroom Teachers and gave these sweaters to poor kids. Even parents were also very obliging right through the journey by sending us the attire which they did not do with anymore. This great cause also made our students have a stupendous feeling of sharing and caring. Gratitude to the parents who sent us sufficing total of old as well as new-flanged sweaters showing their empathy towards the young ones.

Diwali Celebration 14’ @ CI…!

It’s the “Festival of Lights” today, It’s again the day of Diwali!!! It’s time to dress up folks, it’s time to adorn the thali!!!Denied of laughter and smiles for days, some people know not what it is to enjoy,can you not share something you have, can you not bring them a little joy?

Diwali is one of the most colorful, sacred and loveliest festival celebrated every year with great joy and enthusiasm throughout the length and breadth of the country. It marks the happy return of lord Rama to Ayodhya after fourteen year’s exile. It is a festival of lights and festivities.

PYP staff at Choithram International also celebrated the ringing out of old year and ringing in the new one with bus conductors, kitchen staff, guards and bai ji`s by giving them sweets and by organizing very ambrosial and toothsome lunch for them, which really put a smile on their cheerful and gleeful faces. We also spent quality time with them with much needed feeling of togetherness and bonding of family, which made it something special for them. At the end of the lovely day they left with their hearts with overflowing love and delight.

When you can make someone else smile, when you can be someone’s ally!!! that’s when you can yourself be glad, that’s when you’ll have a HAPPY DIWALI!!!

Looking through the long list of places to do community service “Rotary Paul School” caught our attention. What a blessing for us to get across with precious little souls .We are grateful to have the opportunity to visit an Rotary Paul School with our PYP students. It gave them golden chance to learn on how to build healthy relation with little ones from society and to experience the blissful feeling on helping those who are in need.

But our community service does not end here. Our next service was promoting NGO “The child Line”. Childline project across India is supported by the MWCD, under the Integrated Child Protected Scheme. Our youthful learners initiated the service by promoting the endeavour of the NGO by pulling every ones attention towards them by performing skit and dances. We loved participating with our learners as they were great partners.

TAISI MEET - 2015

“Sports brings the world together” this famous quote came to life when Choithram International students participated in three days TAISI sports competition held at MIT, Vishwashanti Gurukul, Pune. A team of 54 students accompanied by 5 sports teachers participated with great zeal and enthusiasm

Our students displayed sportsmanship spirit and won a total of 27 medals out of which 7 were gold ,17 silver and 3 bronze. School also bagged two trophies, for table tennis and lawn tennis .The overall score stood at 65 points and school secured the 4th position.

ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEETThe five "S" of sports training are: stamina, speed, strength, skill, and spirit; but the greatest of these is spirit. This quote held true in every sense for the Choithram International 11th Athletic Meet 2014-15 held on 28th Feb, 2015.

The event was attended by all the students and teachers of CI and a good strength of the Parent Community as well. The Chief Guest for the event was the CI Principal, Mr. Dilip Vasu. The day promised to be a lovely one for track event, with a light breeze blowing and just the right amount of sunshine. With these ideal conditions, the students assembled on the field in their House formations for the Starting March-Past, each house lead by the House Captains, commanded by the Sports Captains , Dilraj Singh Sohal and Shivani Ayyar.

Gandhi, Tagore, Lincoln and Mandela Houses under their House Flags marched to the CI Flag, where the Sports Captain , Shivani Ayyar, lead the students through the Oath-Taking Ceremony. This was followed by the Chief Guest of the event , Principal Mr. Dilip Vasu, speaking a few inspiring words to the students and declaring the Athletic Meet open. The event kicked off with races for the tiny tots of KG1, KG2 and Nursery. All the little children displayed great zest in all their events. The Open Race organised for non-participants of these classes saw a large number of students volunteering for the race, so much so that the race had to take place in three rounds!

Once the events for the little ones were over, the events for PYP 1, 2 and 3 began. The students ran their best races, showing spirit and sportsmanship. Once the PYP events were done, the event moved on to the Sub-Junior (Grade 4-5), Junior (Grade 6-8) and Senior (Grade 9-12), Boys and Girls Races for 100mts, 200mts, 400mts and the 4X100mts Relay. All the races were interesting and exciting, with the students, parents and teachers applauding the great effort and sportsman spirit of all the participants.

The distribution of Certificates and Medals for the winners in all categories through all the levels was held during the breaks between races. The event came to a close with the Closing March-Past, the DP Coordinator, Ms. Nandini Verma, declared the closing of the

Athletic Meet, which was followed by the National Anthem. A special mention must be made for Grade-9A student Virti Gandhi and the Sports Captain Dilraj Singh Sohal, who proactively and diligently managed the participants, and ensured everyone reached the starting points correctly and in time for their respective races. Through Flat Classroom Project students at Choithram International got an opportunity not just to connect but also to collaborate with students over the world to achieve a common goal. The students can discuss, share, and create etc. without being barred by walls, boundaries or any other barriers which allow them to create in an online environment. This learning environment mirrors the digital environment that they are growing up in, and thus stimulates interest and curiosity.

iPads have become an integral learning tool for our students and our teachers are trained regularly to create iTunesU courses and incorporate educational tools and apps that Apple offers into the curriculum implementation.

At CI, technology has been an indispensable part of the teaching-learning process. Comprehensive educational tools that are being used the world over by the top-most institutions, are part of the CI academic fold. First DPC Gujarat , Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh Network Meet - ENSEMBLE

ENSEMBLE is the meeting of all the DP Coordinators of IB schools in Gujarat, Rajasthan and MP. The 2014 ENSEMBLE was held at CI had the DPCs of top schools of the region in attendance and was a successful event.

Cambridge Workshops at Choithram International for the First Time in Indore

The Cambridge International Examination (CIE) is an international board recognised across the globe for its comprehensive curriculum. CIE board gives tremendous importance to professional development of its educators all over the world, through holding subject workshops.

On 27th and 28th January 2015, Choithram International hosted Cambridge professional development workshops for Teaching and Assessing in Science, Maths and English. About 50 teachers, from different schools of Indore and other cities of India, attended the workshops. The workshops trainers had come from UK to train the teachers with the latest techniques and methods of teaching and assessing skills.

The three workshop leaders are Ms. Chrissie Sims – English, Ms. Mary Jones – Science and Mr. Stephen McCartney – Math. These leaders having vast experience of their subject and have written many books for Cambridge curriculum apart from being moderator and examiner in University of Cambridge. Before coming to Indore, they have conducted similar workshops in Jakarta, Indonesia and Hanoi, Vietnam.

International Baccalaureate (IB) professional development helps educators develop a deeper understanding of what it means to be an effective teacher, bringing them to the forefront of their field. It is a leading provider of high-quality, engaging, and innovative professional development in the Asia-Pacific region. IB offers workshops to support the professional growth of teachers and administrators transform classroom practice and student learning cultivate enduring communities of learners. To support the professional growth, some teachers of Choithram International were sent for the IBAP workshop at Oberoi International School, Mumbai in the month of February. Ms. Durgesh Jadhav attended an IBAP workshop on Cat - 3 "Inquiry Based Learning" where in Ms. Anjalika Sharma the workshop leader got her acquainted with the various strategies and tools to generate Inquiry in the classroom teaching. This will help students to construct knowledge based on their prior knowledge. Ms. Pallavi Makhija attended an IBAP workshop on Cat - 3 "Concept Based Learning" where in Ms. Karen Chaur, the workshop leader oriented her with the various concepts used in building the students knowledge in the Primary Years Programme. IBAP Workshop on Role of Arts in PYP Cat -3 was a boon for Mr.Rakshit Yadav. His role as a facilitator / mentor towards PYP learners has been enhanced with more authentic, creative and effective learning engagements. He has started practising his learning and understanding in Dance class room and he has also shared his learning with his colleagues to have an authentic learning in school. IBAP Workshop on "Collaborative Planning" Cat - 2 was undertaken by Ms. Gunjan Belani. Mr. Abhimanyu Das Gupta, the workshop leader helped her familiarize with planning and reflection with stakeholders which is the major essence of Primary Year Programme. IBAP Workshop on “PYP Exhibition”, Cat 2 was attended by Ms. Anjali Nair. This workshop headed by Mr.Doug Brittain was a time to listen, view, share exhibition experiences and develop a conceptual understanding of the issues in context of the Exhibition guidelines (2008) and the Programme standards and practices (2010). One great thing about these workshops is that it reaffirms what we are doing in our own school. It helps get over the ‘grass is greener’ feelings that come about when things are tougher than we’d like. It gave the confidence that though we are doing well here, there are some good practices that we can build upon so that we can make a difference.

IBAP Workshop - Understanding MYP

In house IBAP workshop was organized for MYP teachers to make teaching and learning an effective and active process. The workshop provided teachers a better understanding of MYP Planners, IDU’s , Service and Action @MYP , Developing IB Learner Profiles and International Mindedness .The workshop continued for 3 days and constituted a lot of interactive and knowledgeable sessions. It helped in systematic understanding of MYP curriculum and its effective application. It will surely make a difference in day to day class interactions with students and will help in achieving a better educational IB environment.

2 people in front at a fork.....

An old Indian woman,Priya,at the age of 54 was walking with her dog,Tommy and was enjoying her time

as a pedestrian.On the other side there was Miranda who was of Priya's age and was rushing because she

was running out of time and she had to attend a party at her boss's place.

Both the women stood in front of a fork and they glared at each other as if they had met before.Priya

smiled and took the right side of the road and Miranda was still thinking and then she took the same

road.Priya was enjoying and humming with her dog.Miranda was in tension because she wasn't sure if she

had taken the right road to her boss's house;She had just followed Priya because Priya's face was really very

familiar to her.

Tommy started barking and was wagging his tail as he observed Miranda's face.Miranda asked Priya,"Do

you know where is Mr.Danny's house?"(Miranda's boss).Priya replied “Oh! You have taken the wrong road,it

was the left road of the fork”, and Miranda told her story to Priya,about her boss’s party. Then Miranda

thought not to go to the party because it was already too late.Suddenly, Priya stared into Miranda's eyes and

said ,”We people will never be in our destination if we hurry, rather we should just walk in our normal

speed”. Miranda was shocked hearing that and she remembered herself saying the same phrase to her best

childhood friend.Then Miranda asked Priya, "Are you Priya Kumar?",Priya replied "Yes, I am."

The best childhood friends at their 50's met after 35 years and they were so glad to be at the

fork of road at the same;They were destined to meet.

The graceful smile and that gorgeous face and no one can ever take Rajee Ma'am

place , the science of love which she gave , and no one can ever take her place .

But everything was incomplete without that laughter , laughter of joy and joy of

laughter , it is all because our Neeta Ma'am is with us .

And that pretty lady who brightens our day with her tucks of love and her name

itself signifies her beauty , who is no one else but our Harsha Ma'am .

Like our wonderful earth we have Chayya Ma'am who has scores of care and

lessons of cure , she makes us imagine the whole world in our hands .

A woman full of art spreads colors in our life , with a stroke of her brush she

makes everything feel alive, she is our wonderful Varsha Ma'am .

But u know what we have a beauty of nature , the queen of melody , sweeter than

those birds , she is the one and only Natasha ma'am .

Oh how can we forget our sweet iPads but oh , we have someone way cuter ,

who is our Purva Ma'am , she makes us shine with our intelligence and smile .

And the head of all these fairies , is the biggest fairy of all , she is the best teacher

ever , oh she is our Pritha Ma’am.

And then we realise we have so many mothers , who make us blessed with their

beauty and love.
