Born and raised in London and the English countryside, Stella McCartney graduated from Central St Martins in 1995. A signature style of sharp tailoring, natural confidence and sexy femininity was immediately apparent in her first collection and after only two collections, in 1997, she was appointed the Creative Director of Chloe in Paris and enjoyed great success during her tenure.

In 2001, Stella McCartney launched her own fashion house under her name in a joint venture with Gucci Group (now the PPR Luxury Group) and showed her first collection in Paris in October 2001. A lifelong vegetarian, Stella McCartney does not use any leather or fur in her designs. Her collections include women’s ready-to-wear, accessories, lingerie, eyewear, fragrance and organic skincare. Her first perfume, “Stella”, launched successfully in September 2003.

Autumn 2011 Presentation

Held in a four floor loft in the West Village, models toasted marshmallows and danced to the Spank band, while presenting the Autumn 2011 Collection. The collection includes oversized camel coats, knitwear with geometric prints and patent shoes with chunky heels.

Stella McCartney just gave birth to her baby girl Reiley at the end of November but that didn’t stop the designing woman from putting together an Autumn presentation that makes us pine for fall 2011 -- something we didn’t expect to be writing in this weather. We can already see ourselves in the striped knits and boxy jackets, and the minimalist in us digs the lack of overwhelming prints.

Take a look at Stella’s ensembles!

BackStage

Mood/Style:for this season, Stella McCartney explores a more sculpted silhouette, working with innovative, hi-tech materials and evolving the masculine/feminine theme that is her trademark. Volumes become more important, new proportions are explored, the emphasis on textures confers a touch of modern three-dimensionality. Stella is able, however, to calibrate a mix that maintains that sense of easy, sexy and fluid femininity that is at the root of her success and that has rendered her brand so renowned

Lengths:mini, below-the-knee, calf-length and ankle-length

Colours:black, midnight blue, ivory, gold

Fabrics:brushed wool, wool crepe, boiled wool, wool felt covered in gold foil, silk twill, pressed velvet with stretch scuba, tulle, point d’ésprit

Shapes:the tuxedo jacket, a trademark of Stella McCartney, is redesigned with sloping shoulders, oversized volumes, translated into multiple versions and worn over soft, full high-waisted pants, or elongated to become a coat. The silhouette is sculpted, with tops with rounded sleeves that bloom from high-waisted, fitted skirts comprised of thick Miyake-effect pleats. Coats and jackets in hi-tech felt covered in gold foil. Digital graphic prints for pantsuits. See-through inserts in tulle and point-d’ésprit on snug evening dresses where the silhouette becomes sexier

Accessories:two-tone Mary-Janes, stiletto booties, masculine loafers with flat heels. Resin box-shaped clutches with brass details

Spring 2011 Presentation

STELLA MCCARTNEY was in good form in the Opera National this morning - welcoming her father, Beth Ditto and Salma Hayek onto the front row with coffee and croissants and putting on a display of her masc-meets-femininity adorned with mouth-watering orange and lemon prints that are bound to be among the most enjoyed next summer.

“We bought her botanical prints for pre-, and I really liked these too,” said Matches buying director Bridget Cosgrave after the show. “What a lovely way that was to start a Monday morning.”

Summer 2011 Backstage

The Stella McCartney Summer 2011 presentation took place at Paris’ Palais de Tokyo, against a paint-by-number backdrop created by American artist Trey Speegle.

“We wanted skirts to go longer for next spring/summer, but we didn’t want it to look - dare I say it - ‘mumsy’ “, laughed a heavily pregnant Stella McCartney, who is expecting her fourth child in a matter of weeks, at her showing at the Paris prêt-à-porter season.

“I wanted long, but I also wanted legs,” she said.

Her new, long, leggy look was showcased in a series of silk dresses, and culottes, worn with open-back tops, in mini-florals and a juicy oranges-and-lemons print.

IT’S the last Monday morning of fashion month and enthusiasm could wane but Stella McCartney seems to always guarantee sun (though she can’t take all the credit for that this week), celebrity (her father, Salma Hayek, Twiggy and Alexa Chung), and a sex appeal she makes her own each season. Today she took microprints from mens’ ties in burgundy and white or blue and white and blew them up to varying degrees on mini dresses featuring asymmetrical sporty mesh under garments and ornate curling baroque appliqué hemlines. Swirls of paisley lace interjected mini dresses and all-in-ones and the traditional Stella trouser suits featured more of the same softening decoration at the lapel.

Following the success of her first capsule range for kids last year, Stella McCartney is launching a full Spring/Summer 11 collection. The new collection is playful and vibrant, and includes mini versions of pieces from the Ready-to-Wear collection. “The whole idea was to make clothes that kids will enjoy; and that are not restrictive.” - Stella McCartney.
