AATTENTIONTTENTION TOTO PPARISHARISH TTHANKSGIVINGHANKSGIVING PPROGRAMMEROGRAMME CCONTRIBUTORSONTRIBUTORS & N& NEWEW PPARISHIONERSARISHIONERS

The new Thanksgiving cycle commences on 5th October 2014.

New envelopes for all contributors will be left in both churches for collection until Sunday 12 October. NB. Credit Card and Direct Debit patrons—if you don’t wish to use envelopes, please leave them in the trays for return to the Parish Office.

Income from Thanksgiving envelopes supports the Clergy and Parish Staff, as well as helping to fund parish loans, repair & maintenance, new resources, Archdiocesan levies, insurance premiums, liturgical and administration expenses.

So far this year expenditure has centred on general maintenance and minor improvements to all parish properties. However, special mention is made of restoration of public walkways and extensive tree pruning & yard clean up at Holy Spirit church; also widening and renovation of the driveway plus major pest control

measures and eradication of termites and vermin again at Manresa presbytery & parish centre became a priority and were completed. Early in the winter months the gates, external doors, woodwork and trims were cleaned down and painted at St Ignatius church, hall and OSHC areas. Lift call outs and servicing were a regular expense early this year. Some important parish projects may be considered in the 2015 budget cycle, ie. costing an upgrade of electrical wiring and fittings at St Ignatius church/hall; investigating and obtaining

quotes for a new roof and guttering at Manresa/parish office.

We wish to acknowledge the professional input and expertise of the Finance & Development Committee

including the Steering Committee for development of Auchenflower land and the Property Maintenance and Development sub-committee. An extra vote of thanks goes to the constant reliability and dependability of the weekly Money Counters group. Thanks go to everyone for your tireless efforts on behalf of the parish!

Special message for new and existing parishioners. We welcome new members to the community & new participants in the TG Programme, so please take a New/Change Parishioner brochure or form from the back of the church, complete & place on the collection plate or forward to Sandy Dunne, Finance Officer at the Parish Office for processing. Similarly, please take the time to let us know if you are changing banking details,

home address or leaving the parish in the near future. It helps to keep the parish database updated too! Any questions? Don’t hesitate to call Sandy at the Parish Office (Mon-Wed).

Thanks and God Bless! Fr Peter Quin SJ, Parish Priest.

THE THANKSGIVING PROGRAMME IS THE MAJOR REVENUE SOURCE FOR THE PARISH.

PLEASE CONSIDER JOINING UP IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY A MEMBER.

OUR MISSION PRAYER

We, the St Ignatius community, are called to live the good news. We pray that we become the people that Jesus Christ called us to be. We pray that we know the Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit

through knowing Jesus in prayer, scripture and liturgy. We pray that we give hope to others by a practical, personal kindness, affirming each person's dignity, worth and destiny in Christ. May we live out this mission of our Christian vocation in the spirit of St. Ignatius.

Are you confused by what is going on in the Middle East? Let me explain. We support the Iraqi government in the fight against the Islamic State. We don’t like IS, but IS is supported by Saudi Arabia, whom we do like. We don’t like President Addad in Syria. We support the fight against him, but not IS, which is also fighting against him. We don’t like Iran, but Iran supports the Iraqi government against IS. So, some of our friends, and some of our enemies are fighting against our other enemies, whom we want to lose, but we don’t want our enemies who are fighting our enemies to win. If the people we want to defeat are defeated, they might be re-placed by people we like even less. And all this was started by us invading a country to drive out terrorists who weren’t actually there until we went in to drive them out. Do you understand now?

Clear as mud
