Inkjet Printer
Laser Printer
Dot Matrix Printer
Plotter
LCD Screen
CRT Monitor
This device prints by spraying ink through very fine nozzles contained within the print head. This type is most popular
amongst home users.
Impact printer that can print through several carbonized sheets. Works by shooting pins onto an inked ribbon to
form the characters. Noisy and not very good quality, but good for multi-part forms.
Used mostly for technical drawing - the image is drawn by moving pens across the paper draw lines.
Works in the same way as a photocopier. Uses static charges to make the pattern of the page on a drum, then sprinkles toner on the drum and transfers it to the page.
Works like a television, using a cathode ray tube. The tube is what makes these monitors so bulky, but much cheaper
than other monitors.
The display works by using liquid crystal cells that change when a voltage is applied to them. It is much slimmer than
a CRT monitor.TFT Monitor
Like an LCD display, but with a transistor for each pixel which means it can be switched on and off quickly, so it is quick to refresh the display. Short for thin film transistor.

Pneumatics
Hydraulics
Making things move using oil-filled pistons to push things, such as on bulldozers. Generates a slow powerful
movement.
Making things move using pistons full of air. Quicker than hydraulics but not as powerful.
Works by using electromagnets to make vibrations in the air. We hear these vibrations as sound in a room.
Device which makes something move. The computer output is a voltage that makes a turn, and that movement
can be made to push things by mechanisms in the machine.
Tiny speakers mounted close to the ears. These are useful when only the user needs to hear the sound.
