Report Structure – Fieldstudy Report Scaffold
Introduction:
- Identify the site being studied (Glenmore Loch Basin)
- Explain the origin of the site (where did it come from, when was it made, how was it made)
- Explain the purpose of the site (function, why is it there)
Hypothesis:
- A prediction of what you think the condition of the site will be (overarching question you are trying to
answer in your research and fieldstudy)
- State your 3 inquiry questions (you are trying to answer these using your fieldstudy findings)
Equipment:
- List the equipment used in the fieldstudy (for example, trundle wheel, turbidity tube, etc)
Method:
- Explain the tests you performed and how they were performed (steps of procedures)
Findings:
- Identify the results found in each test and observation you completed (transform your results sheet)
- Explain what these results mean – link your findings back to your hypothesis and inquiry questions
- In this section you should also include a fieldsketch of the site, tallies of wildlife and plant life you
observed, any photos you took at the site and graphs of your findings (present the data you have
gathered in appropriate forms)
Conclusion:
- Summarise findings and connection to the hypothesis
- Present a statement about the quality of the environment (poor, fair, good, etc) based on your overall
findings
- Make suggestions regarding how the environment of the site could be improved
Remember to include your bibliography
Tips:
✓ Make use of subheadings and the above scaffold to ensure you have written a complete report
✓ Try to include a field sketch, photos, a tally and a graph in your Findings section – it is important you
present your results appropriately
✓ DO NOT copy any writing from another student work or directly from the internet (plagiarism)
✓ DO NOT leave writing your report to the night before it’s due – you’ll forget the details of the
experience
