Stage 4 into 5
The progression by students to Year 9 marks another significant step in the pathway of learning heading toward the Record of School Achievement (RoSA) and the Higher School Certificate.
Record of School AchievementThe Record of School Achievement (RoSA) is the credential for students who leave school after Year 10 and before they receive their Higher School Certificate (HSC).
This provides an ongoing, cumulative record for students
It records grades for courses completed in Year 10 & Year 11
Record of School Achievement
EligibilityTo be awarded the Record of School Achievement all students must have:
• Undertaken and completed courses of study that satisfy mandatory curriculum and assessment requirements
• Complied with any other regulations or requirements (such as attendance) imposed by the Minister or NESA
• Completed Year 10
CurriculumDuring Stage 5 our students study NESA – NSW Education Standards Authority courses that prepare them well for their study of Stage 6 courses for the HSC.
The core curriculum remains consistent for students between Stages 4 and 5, however students in Stage 5 are afforded greater choice in their learning paths with elective subjects available to them for the first time.

Course Completion Criteria Students are considered to have satisfactorily completed a course towards the award of the Record of School Achievement if they:
• Follow the Board Developed or Board Endorsed course apply themselves with diligence and sustained effort to the set tasks and experiences provided in the course by the school and achieve some or all of the outcomes.
• The principal may determine that, as a result of absence, the above course completion criteria might not be met.
WarningsStudents must be warned if they are in danger of not satisfactorily completing mandatory requirements.
This warning must be given by principals in enough time for students to meet the requirements.
If a student does not meet all mandatory requirements by the end of Year 10, then the student will not be eligible for the award of a Record of School Achievement in that year.
Non-Completion of Course Requirements
Students who have not complied with course completion criteria can be regarded as not having satisfactorily completed the course.
Two written warnings must be issued to students before an ‘N’ determination is applied.
Choosing Courses for 2018• Make sure you get your application in on time• Place your electives in order of preference• Choose subjects that interest you• Do not choose subjects because your friends are doing them• Talk to friends and teachers about your subject choices • You may not get your all choices• All classes have restricted numbers, some have to miss out• Some courses offered may not run due to insufficient numbers or changes in
staffing• Choose carefully as you may not be able to change at the beginning of next
year
Fees• Several of the elective subjects attract fees of up to $100 for
equipment.
• These fees are compulsory and are used to provide materials for the student.
• Students will need to have these paid by Week 3 of Term 1.
Online Subject Selection
Why Didn’t I Get My First Choice• The course didn’t run – too few students
• Student didn’t submit choices by the due date
• Priority given to Year 10 – 100Hr Courses
STRONGER HSC STANDARDS• For the NSW HSC in 2020• Students will be required to reach a minimum literacy and
numeracy standard before they are eligible for the award of the Higher School Certificate (HSC).
• The minimum standard is set at a functional level of literacy and numeracy required for everyday life. The standard is not representative of the skills required for academic study but at the minimum level students will need to function after they leave school.
STRONGER HSC STANDARDSStudents can meet the NESA standard by achieving:
• a Band 8 in each of their Year 9 NAPLAN reading, writing and numeracy tests; or
• a pass in the online literacy and numeracy tests in Years 10, 11 or 12.
In 2018 students will complete their NAPLAN tests online
