Year 7 Maths Day
As part of the Hampton Independent State School Partnership, six Teddington students were selected to take part in the Year 7 Most-Able Maths Day focused on problem solving. They were joined by students from other schools in the Independent State School Partnership: Orleans Park, Lady Eleanor Hollis, Hollyfields, Hampton Boys, Hampton Academy and Tolworth Girls. The day included: solving puzzles, taking part in a workshop lecture, escaping a zombie attack, discovering the behaviour of a robotic ant, completing online challenges and working together as a team to solve problems. It was a great opportunity to work with students from other schools, share ideas, and have fun! The students said: “I loved all of the day, but my favourite bit was working with people from different schools”. “…fascinated by the ants”. “…playing bloxorx!”. “Maths will help in a zombie attack”. “Meeting new people and having fun”. “It was epic”. “You had to think hard”.

6th Form News
Well done to Year 12 for helping with the Open Evening. It was a huge success and all our visitors were so impressed by both the building and our Year 12 students. Congratulations to Callum Bloor, and Emily Wotton, our new Head Boy and Head Girl for their impressive performance, talking in front of a large audience, about their experience of Teddington Sixth Form. Thanks as well to members of the newly appointed Sixth Form Student Leadership Team for their hard work and to all of our Year 12 students who came along to support staff on the evening.
Rotary Shoe Boxes
Well done to all the tutor groups for doing their best to fill the Rotary shoe boxes. As a reminder of the
aims of the scheme, the gift of a shoebox that can contain toys, toiletries, educational items or
household goods is a drop of happiness to the people of Eastern Europe who live in a world of poverty.
For many, it will be the first present that they have ever received and it lets them know that somebody,
somewhere, cares. Please be generous.
Thank you to Ms Harris and 7BS for their magnificent efforts.
Globe Players
Last week Year 9 enjoyed a performance from the Globe Players highlighting the poetry of the Great War. Thank you to Hannah Lister and Taya Conner for their review of the poetry performance. “On Tuesday morning, Year 9 went to see a performance of many inspirational poems from World War One. One aspect of the performance that we enjoyed was how the actors incorporated the audience in their performance. This made us feel like we were part of the act and it made us connect with the poems more. The poems were written by Wilfred Owens and Siegfried Sassoon, who were both soldiers during the World War. This made us believe in the power of each of the poems, as they were written in a soldier’s point of view. Another aspect of the play that we thought was effective was how we had already researched the poems in our previous English lessons. This made understand the meaning and background behind the poems. Songs were added to their performance to make it more humorous and enjoyable. It also included a lot
of interesting facts about how the soldiers would feel and why they wrote the poems. Throughout
different parts of the play, the actors came up to the audience, making them feel involved.
We really enjoyed this performance of different poems in World War One and we hope they continue
the play as we believe others would enjoy it just as much as we did”.
