Longleat– Research & Mood Boards
Aims and Objectives The aim of this booklet is to develop your under-
standing of researching and how to evaluate it.
Learn the skills that are needed to
research.
Learn to improve presentation skills.
General Success Criteria You will see during this homework that tasks are
linked together one after the other so it is
important that you complete each task fully so that
you can use the task to help you develop the next
one.
Get your parents/carers to look at your work and
ask them if they can understand what you have
done. If they can you should be on the right track. Design Brief
Longleat Safari Park are looking to
develop their image. They want to
make it more appealing to the child/
teenage market. Your role as a
designer is to develop exciting new
products to advertise and create a
lasting impression.
At the beginning of a project you will receive a
design brief which explains what you have to do in
the project and sets the scene.
This project is about Longleat and is asking you to
research and design new promotional materials
aimed at children and teenagers.
Task 1 - Look up the key words below and write the definitions next to
them to help you understand the brief further.

Task 3 Before you carry out any research it is important to make a plan. This will help you to organise
your thoughts and ideas.
Try filling in the blanks on this research plan to show how you would research
for this Longleat project.

Task 4 - Design a questionnaire and ask ten of your friends to find out what
they would like to see in the promotional materials eg logos, colours, shapes
and types of products.

Task 5 - Product Analysis Designers research existing products to see how other designers coloured,
styled and shaped their products. Look at the photo below of an existing
Longleat promotional leaflet and answer the questions.
Task 6-Moodboard During the research the designer will collect a wide variety of pictures and samples
based on the theme. The materials need to be displayed on a single sheet and give
the designers ideas about colour, pattern, shape and texture.
