Year 6 Transition

Scheme of Work This unit of work has been designed for returning year 6 pupils after the

COVID-19 lockdown. It should be taught alongside Libby Scott and Re-

becca Westcott’s novel - Can You See Me?

It is a continuous book study that can be carried out whilst in school with

the teacher and continued at home as part of their home learning provi-

sion. The language used and the tasks given are all things that the chil-

dren should be familiar with so should help with independent learning.

All pupils will need their own copy of the book. The resources can be

printed off but it has been designed so that pupils can create their own

responses on lined or plain paper, so that there is no need for access to a

printer.

KF: Language for effect

Read pages 99-100 of chapter 9. In the first paragraph the author uses onomatopoeia and personification

to describe the words mum and dad use in their conversation.

Find examples of onomatopoeia and personification used on p99?

Let’s get creative!

Draw the words to show how Tally is feeling about this conversation that she tries to eavesdrop

on. E.g. how could you draw ‘buzz’ so the words feel as though they are buzzing around her

and are out of her reach?

Thursday 9th July : Chapter 12 WRITING TASK

In this chapter, Tally faces many challenges. Your task is to try and help her! Write a letter to Tally offering

her advice about what she should do in response to the problem below. Turn to the next page to help you

with your letter writing.

“There is a boy in my school who is always mean to me. He calls me

Weirdo-Adams and just the another day he said that I nearly wet

myself because the bell made me jump. Everyone laughed and I was

so embarrassed. He does this everyday and I’m really sick of it now!

I don’t know what I should do. I want it all to stop!”

As you read chapter 12 jot down anything that tells you Tally tries her best to fit in.
