This week you are going to make your own time capsule to document this historic period in time.

A few weeks ago you learnt about adding &
subtracting fractions. In todays lesson we will be
focussing on multiplying fractions.
As a simple example:
1/3 x 1/5 = 1/15
This is because you multiply the top numbers
(numerators) together and the bottom numbers
(denominators) together
e.g 2/5 x 3/5 = 6/25
The link below gives you some more examples:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zrspscw
Once you understand this concept have a go at the
activities on the same website – if you can’t find
them then use the links below:

Today, begin to think about the things you’ve done
during lockdown. You may have:
Celebrated a birthday
Celebrated Eid
Started to play a new game with your family
Started a new book.
Started to exercise in a different way
You could include:
Newpaper articles
Things you’ve made during lockdown
Pictures you’ve drawn To make a time capsule you need something that is strong and has a lid. Here are some ideas of things you could use at home.
Numeracy Literacy Topic
Helped with some cooking or baking
Made a collage
Made a den
Watched some new films
Watched the news to hear about updates
Reflecting on your time since we’ve been in lockdown,
think about THREE things you would like to draw.
Draw a picture of something you’ve done during
lockdown.
Give it a heading then underneath write a few sentences
to describe what you were doing and how you were
feeling at the time.
Be as creative as you can with your drawing and
descriptions!

Q
As a progression from yesterday's lesson – today
we will focus on multiplying fractions using
whole numbers.
e.g. 1/8 x 6 Now remember – the number 6 written as a
fraction is 6/1...

Reflecting on my lockdown journey
Answer the following questions in full sentences in your
book. Here is an example...
1. Where and who are you living with during
lockdown?
Remember if you want to bury your time capsule in a garden it must be made of strong material that will protect the things inside from animals. If you don’t have a place to bury it, you can always store it in your house with a note to say, ‘Only open on 01/06/2030’. ----------------------------------------------
Below is a link with some great ideas you may want to print off and complete to put inside your time capsule. https://www.kiddycharts.com/printables/free-covid-19-time-capsule-worksheets/
Spend some time drawing and decorating these things to put into your time capsule.
Numeracy Literacy Topic
Therefore the question is 1/8 x 6/1 = 6/8
However in the question below:
1/5 x 6 = 6/5 The top number is bigger than the bottom
number. In this case you can convert it into a
mixed number e.g. 1 1/5
If you’re not sure how to do this yet that’s fine.
Below are some more examples of how to
multiply fractions by whole numbers
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zbh6hbk
Once you feel confident with this topic you can
have a go at the activities at the bottom of the
website (or use these links):
https://bam.files.bbci.co.uk/bam/live/content/zb3
3gwx/pdf
https://bam.files.bbci.co.uk/bam/live/content/z6x
xt39/pdf
Here is an example...
1. I am living in a flat in Butetown. I live with my
parents, brother and sister. We also have a pet
goldfish.
2. What special occasions have you celebrated
during lockdown?
3. Have you visited anybody from outside their
house? If so, who?
4. What has been your favourite part of lockdown?
5. What has been your least favourite part of
lockdown?
6. Is there a TV programme you have enjoyed
watching during lockdown?
7. What are you thankful for your parents doing
during lockdown?
8. What do you plan to do when lockdown is over?
Numeracy Literacy Topic
If you find these activities too tricky or don’t feel
confident enough to convert fractions into mixed
numbers then have a go at these questions instead:
e.g. 1/5 x 3 = 3/5
1/6 x 4 =
1/9 x 7 =
1/10 x 3 =
1/20 x 14 =
1/12 x 9 =
2/8 x 3 =
3/10 x 3 =
4/12 x 2 =

Dividing Fractions
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKCBspYtrSU
Dividing fractions is similar to multiplying
fractions – with just one extra step beforehand.
So with this example:
2/3 ÷ 2/4
First you flip the second fraction to become 4/2 Now all you do is multiply the fractions:

Understanding the coronavirus
Did you draw a rainbow to support the NHS workers? If so, why not put that into your time capsule. Can you find any newspaper articles add into the time capsule? Anything you’ve spent time doing you can add it in. You may also want to include some pictures. Maybe your parents want to add things into it with you. We are living through a huge part of history so documenting and putting things into a time capsule will be an amazing way to remember this.
Numeracy Literacy Topic
I.e. 2/3 x 4/2 = 8/6
Another examples:
1/3 ÷ 3/5 = 1/3 x 5/3 = 5/9
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwSMew
rnQXg
Now remember, a whole number, for example:
6 as a fraction is 6/1.
So if the question asks:
1/3 ÷ 6 it really means 1/3 ÷ 6/1
And therefore 1/3 x 1/6 = 1/18
The link below shows further examples to
help you consolidate this learning about
dividing fractions:

instead have a go at these questions on
dividing fractions below:
e.g. 2/5 ÷ 2/3 = 2/5 x 3/2 = 6/10
Or
2/5 ÷ 4 = 2/5 ÷ 4/1 = 2/5 x 1/ 4 =
2/20

Begin to draft your diary entry using the box up.
Imagine your diary is a friend and tell them about what
you’ve been doing during this historic period. Use the
box up to help you organise your work.
Paragraph 1 (Introduction) Dear diary...
Introduce yourself, your
name, age, interests and
hobbies, who you’re living
with...
Numeracy Literacy Topic
Example:
1/5 of 30 = is asking how many 5s go into 30 =
6
Another example:
1/6 of 18 = 3 (how many 6s go into 18 = 3)
Have a go at these questions to practice:
1/3 of 12 =
1/5 of 25 =
1/6 of 24 =
1/10 of 50 =
1/8 of 32 =
1/9 of 63 =
1/ 4 of 48 =
1/12 of 72 =
Paragraph 2
(Telling your diary what
the coronavirus is)
Explain to your diary what
the coronavirus is and the
impact it’s had on the
world.
Where did it start?
What is it?
What has changed since it
spread?
Paragraph 3
(What have you been
doing during lockdown?)
Tell your diary what you’ve
been doing since
lockdown.
Have you been watching
films? Playing games?
Baking? Praying?
Exercising?
Paragraph 4
(What are you looking
forward to do when
lockdown is lifted and it is
safe future tense)
In future tense tell your
diary what you are looking
forward to doing when it is
safe to do so.

Diary Entry
Purple polish your box up to improve any spelling
mistake (remember read your sentences out load to check
they makes sense).
Use the success criteria to help you with your writing.
Success Criteria:
Paragraphs
Specific vocabulary describing the coronavirus
Connectives
Numeracy Literacy Topic
If Question was 3/ 4 of 16 x the answer by 3 = 12
e.g 3/5 of 30
Work out 1/5 of 30 = 6
So 3/5 of 30 = 18 (3x6)
Once you feel comfortable with this work then you
can have a go at the activities below to find fractions
of amounts:
1/5 of 20 = 2/5 of 20 =
1/6 of 18 = 3/6 of 18 =
1/10 of 50 = 4/10 of 50 =
1/8 of 24 = 6/8 of 24 =
1/12 of 48 = 3/12 of 48 =
3/5 of 40 =
4/6 of 36 =
7/9 of 72 =
