School Day

School starts promptly at 8:55am when the bell goes. To ensure

children benefit fully from classroom learning and that other

children’s learning is not disrupted we have a strict punctuality

procedure.

Make sure your child arrives ready to learn.

Children arriving after 9:00am are required to collect a late

arrival ticket from the School Office before going they are

admitted to the classroom.

School ends at 3:15pm daily.

Homework

Children have been given homework in order to support them with their English and

Maths. Homework will be given out every Friday in order to consolidate learning. It

should not take children more than 30 minutes to complete set tasks.

Homework is not compulsory but we would like to encourage children to complete

homework tasks as it promotes independent learning skills and positively impacts on

progress.

There will be opportunities for your child to complete homework during ‘Homework

club’ at lunchtimes.

There is more support available for you on the school website.

Your support is greatly appreciated.

Reading Records

Every child will receive a Reading Record at the beginning of September and

will need to bring it to school every day, staff will check reading records

regularly and discuss books and topics. In KS2 we will expect pupils to keep

a record and parents to sign for their child at the end of each week.

The children will be expected to read a minimum of 4 times per week. A

lunchtime reading club will be available to support any children who need it.

The Dog Kennel Hill Reading Challenge will also launch in September. We

hope that certificates and a prize, once they have read 100 times, will

incentivise the children’s love of reading.

A reading record will be provided at the beginning of this term. Please ensure

your child takes responsibility for their Reading Record, as if they lose it, they

will need to purchase a new one for 50p.

PE UniformPlease make sure that your child is wearing the correct PE

uniform. This includes:

Outdoor shoes must not be canvas to prevent ankle and foot injuries. I would recommend AstroTurf football shoes for those that play football a lot as they are hard wearing, otherwise running shoes are the most

comfortable and supportive

PE Lessons:

It is best that children bring both indoor and outdoor kit for all lessons just in case

we have to change the venue of the lesson because of the weather.

High standards of behaviour:

The Governors strongly believe that high standards

of behaviour lie at the heart of a successful school.

Good teaching and learning promote good

behaviour and good behaviour promotes effective

learning. Children have the right to learn and to

achieve their full potential in all aspects of their

lives, and staff have the right to teach. Governors

also believe that the expectation of high standards

of behaviour which are required during the school

day can have a positive effect on the life of young

people outside school in encouraging them to

become successful citizens.
