Literacy ResourcesReading (15mins)We are learning to: Examining language features of a personal letter. Refer to Language features from week 4.
Writing We are learning to:
Use formal letter writing skills to be able to write a letter to a friend who you have not seen in a long time.
Remember to use paragraphs, correct point of view (First person as if you were talking), punctuation and grammar.
Make sure to have a Date, Greeting, Body and Salutation (Closing).
Spelling Week 5 spelling:
Write spelling words in compound and complex sentences. Use the spelling grid to practice your spelling words.
Numeracy We are learning to expand off: The Order of Operations
Warm up Lean and
practice your 7 times tables.

Analyse the text “The Hobbit” (resource column) and identify the chosen tense. Highlight the words that indicate the tense (e.g. was verse will)
Writing We are learning to understand how to use past, present and future tense.
Write a letter using subjective language to inform their recipient of all major events that you have researched this week.
Remember to use paragraphs, correct point of view (first person - as if you are talking), punctuation and grammar.
Minimum of five paragraphs (Introduction, 3 topic paragraphs and conclusion)

Go a little further with extension work: Practise drawing a staff, a treble clef and some different types of notes on a staff. Draw (or use) 5 lines for your staff, and label the lines and spaces with the correct letters. Start your treble clef on the second line (G line) to make the curled start up to the third (B) line.
