Year 2 – Home Learning Ideas week beginning 6th July

Have a go at some of these ideas – try your best and ask someone at home to help you if you get stuck.

There are lots of ideas here, please do not feel like you must complete everything. Find something that you are interested in and focus on that. Try and do one activity from the English and Maths section each day and then choose another from the rest but please don’t worry if this isn’t always possible.

If you find it tricky don’t worry, just leave that activity and move onto something else .

ENGLISH: This week we are going to use a pack from Talk4Writing which is all about Superheroes! There is a pack attached which has a story and lots of activities for you to have a go at. Pick and choose the activities that you are most interested in. There are also some art and craft activities and some active challenges to have a go at linked to the story in this pack. Send us some of the work that you do – we would love to see the Superheroes you create and the costumes that you make.

Pobble 365 Following on with the superhero theme, this week’s picture is called Superhero Treats. There are some questions to answer, a picture challenge and a story starter for you to have a go at.

Phonics/Spellings Look at the words and read them. Check that you understand what they mean. Practise spelling the words and using them in a sentence. Try and write the words in different ways to help you remember them. You could try and write them in big letters, using colours, bubble writing etc.

MATHS MyMaths activities set –

Pictograms Block Charts

This week we are going to spend the first part of the week finishing our work on pictograms and block diagrams. We are going to use some more work from White Rose Maths. For the second part of the week we are going to be using BBC Bitesize for some learning on division. Session 1 – Last week you looked at tally charts and pictograms. This week we are going to continue looking at pictograms but in a slightly different way. You are going to have to be able to use your 2, 5 and 10 times tables so I hope you’ve been working on your Beat That challenges!

Session 2 – In this session you are going to be interpreting pictograms but again you will need to use your 2, 5 and 10 times tables to help with this one.

Session 3 – In our last session on handling data you are going to be looking at a different way of showing what information has been collected. These are called block diagrams.

EXTRA CHALLENGE: If we were in school we would be collecting our own information to put into a pictogram or block diagram. It would be brilliant if, at home, you could find some information to collect. These are the steps to work through: 1. Choose what information you are going to collect. 2. Create a tally chart to put the information in. 3. Make a pictogram or block diagram to show the information. 4. Think about what you have found out. Try and write at least 3 sentences to explain what you have discovered from the information that you collected. There is some squared paper at the very bottom of this pack that you might want to use. We would love to see some this maths work! Session 4 – In today’s session you are going to be learning about division as sharing. Follow this link for some videos to watch which will help you with this learning https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zfxtnrd. There are some practical, hands-on activities to have a go at which will help you with this learning.

Session 5 – Today you will be learning about division as grouping. Again, there is a link to follow with a video and some activities to have a go at. There are also some games. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zhwmhg8. Big Maths This week you have another Beat That challenge to try. We’re sure that you’re getting really good with the 10 and 5 times tables now so we have changed the Beat That challenge to include the 2 times table as well. If you’re still finding the 10 and 5 times tables a bit tricky don’t worry, keep practising and don’t give up.

Science https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z96r82p This week in Science we are going to be looking at food chains. Food chains show us what eats what. Watch the video above to remind you what a food chain is. We would then like you to draw your own food chains. If you want to you can use the pictures below to help give you some ideas or, you could think up your own plants and creatures to go in your food chain.

Here is a game you might like to play. You have to put the plants and creatures in the correct place on the food chain. https://www.sheppardsoftware.com/content/animals/kidscorner/games/foodchaingame.htm

Topic based ideas: Geography – https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zhv8jhv We are going to learn about a different continent this week, Oceania with a focus on Australia. We have been so impressed with the learning that we have seen about other continents so we can’t wait to see what you find out this week.

PSHCE/Wellbeing – Gratitude Jar In life it’s really important to think about the things that we are grateful for. If we are grateful for something this means that we are thankful for it. You can be grateful for anything and the things that you are grateful for can change every day. You can use the gratitude jar template or you could create your own. You could even decorate your own jar and fill it with all the things that you are grateful for.

Music – This week you have 2 new songs to learn from Out of the Ark. One is called ‘Nursery Rhyme Nonsense’ and the other is called ‘The Tadpole Song’. Have fun learning them and try and teach them to your family too! Singing is a great way to put a big smile on your face . https://www.outoftheark.co.uk/ootam-at-home/?utm_source=homepage&utm_campaign=ootamathomead3&utm_medium=homead

Art/DT – This week’s art and DT activities are linked to the superhero learning that you would have seen in the English work. Your challenge is to create your own superhero! We would like you to create a piece of work that shows us what your superhero looks like. You could draw, paint, collage or even make it out of junk materials. You might even decide that you want to become your superhero and you could make some parts of the costume that they might wear (see ideas below).

Have fun with your learning!
